  • Congratulations! Yes, I think clipless pedals will help you a lot. I am a clutz too...and I have fallen with mine (almost fell last weekend on a group ride), but they are still worth it. GET THEM! It sounds like you did a great job, especially for a hilly course. I think you should do the one in September...don't wait a…
  • First, yes, from what I have read, the HIM championship is Vegas. I guess that is why you have to qualify. Very interesting. Thanks. I don't understand the part about notification race day. When I read the information about it, it makes it seem as if people don't know they have qualified until race day. That can't be right.
  • THANK YOU!
  • That is such a great race report. Congratulations. I am especially impressed that you did a trail run for your first tri. I think running on trails is SO MUCH HARDER!!! I know you are hooked now, so keep on doing it girl!! Great job.
  • Thanks guys! I updated today. It's very cathartic! :)
  • I'm a size 6 and I have a medium. I think they differ by brand, but I would go for a large as a 12. Good luck!
  • I disagree. Mine is a one piece and I love it. I haven't had any issues at all. Now, if you think you'll stop during the race to use a porta potty...maybe...but I don't do that!
  • WOW! That is awesome. Amazing really!
  • What a tease!
  • I agree. I have a tri suit and love it. I shopped around for a deal on one, as they can be quite expensive! On the three I've done, the suit has been dry so quickly that I never even noticed it being wet. I would hate to have on a wet bathing suit and have to add another step to my transition. Good luck!
  • I will request that one from my library. Thank you! Yep, I work full time and have four kids...so time crunched is my middle name!
  • It will get easier. I think there will always be random spills, but in general, it gets easier. I took a spill a few weeks ago...annoying and embarrassing...but in general I don't fall. I still struggle with quickly mounting, but I know it will come.
  • I didn't do a training plan for my sprints (I've only done 3). I have just be swimming, biking, and running a lot! :) I did start doing at least a short brick every time I ride. I think that helped me more than anything else because my legs got used to the transition and I can now settle into the run quickly. Good luck!
  • THANKS to everyone for the advice. Much appreciated!
  • THANK YOU! This is great information. I appreciate the details!
  • You can do it! Never stop moving. You are worth it!
  • Great training! As others mentioned, you may need a new saddle, but you may just need to give it time. It does get better!
  • It seems unreal that any Olympic in July would start at 9:00 am. Poor planning! All things considered, it sounds like you did well. As far as the biking/drinking, I have the same issue. I can get to it, but I am scared and I don't do well....so I don't do it. I JUST put tri bars on my bike and added the tri water bottle…
  • Welcome! I don't know what your pool cord thing is, so I'm interested to see what you say about it. You are lucky to be in a place with so many triathletes! Have fun.
  • I have no information to offer about your injury, but I hope you feel better soon. On a different note, how did the race go? Race report, please!
  • Welcome! This is a great place to get lots of questions answered. I am new to triathlon world, and this board helps me a lot! Have you started on the swimming part yet?
  • Congratulations on your new bike!
  • They are upping the weight? That is interesting, and I didn't know that. I wonder what the logic is there? I do think 150 and 200 (men) is a little low. Interesting.... Anyway, you will do great in age group. No worries!

  • I had the same concern with my first sprint in June because there was a 60% chance of thunderstorms. It didn't...thank goodness. I was told by the race director the night before that in the event of thunder it would change to a duathlon. I don't really understand that...because you would be on a a MEDAL bike in the…
  • WOW! 9:00? That is super late for a summer event. A friend of mine was supposed to do the Muncie Half Ironman in Muncie Indiana last weekend. He drove all of the way up there (from South Carolina...very far), and the event was turned into an Olympic due to heat. It's a grueling summer!
  • I am certainly NO bike expert, but I just went through this, so I will give you my thoughts. I had a cheap ($100 or so) road bike that I ordered off of Amazon to get me started. It sucked. For me, everything was an improvement after that. My husband just got me a new bike for my birthday (see my post below "I got a new…
  • Ha! Ha! Enjoy your "just a sprint!"
  • Welcome!!!!
  • I did a 10k on July 4 too. I got a PR and 2nd in my age group, so it was a great day for me. Afterwards I was very tired from the heat. This summer is killer!
  • Ha! I didn't realize that this thread has traction again. I originally posted it before the first sprint, and I guess I was tired of the "just a sprint" phrase when I would ask people I know for training advice. I had someone say to me, "You really don't even need to train. It's just a sprint." Well, now that I have done…
