  • Whoa, you look GREAT. Nice job!
  • Well, I think the bloating/gas will stop eventually, haha. But I read somewhere that too much fiber can hinder absorption of nutrients? With the foods that I am eating now, I could probably hit 50 g of fiber a day or more, and I guess I was just wondering if this could have any negative effects like that?
  • I don't think people on MFP are going to give you advice to maintain an unnaturally low weight. Why not gain to a normal weight while working out to build muscles? If you go to a TDEE calculator, it should tell you how many calories to lose/gain/maintain weight.
  • I don't know, I'm not sure if it's normal for a 19 year old college student to have to start paying rent to her family already. I mean, if she graduated and had to live at home for a while, that would make sense, but at 19, you're just getting started in life, and still dealing with education/paying student bills/etc. It…
  • Thanks for the great advice. I keep hearing to take sitz baths; unfortunately, I am a college student and don't even have access to a bathtub. Will this impede the healing process?
  • Yep, no blood, and not really any pain when I'm not having a BM (except if I take a really big step or something). Hoping that's a good sign. This has been a real wake up call to change my diet, lol, especially if people who get one of these things is more susceptible to getting another in the future. I'm eating fruit and…
  • Oh geez. OK, this is scaring me, I think I will ask for a doctor's help. But any appointment I make won't be for a while. I am pretty sure it's a fissure (my mom has hemorrhoids, and I think mine isn't that). I had (TMI TMI TMI) constipation really badly for a few weeks because of my crappy diet, and then a few days ago, I…
  • Same. My BMI is technically lower end of normal, but I look very large to myself, for some reason. I am astounded when people tell me I am thin. I would also appreciate some advice about this
  • Weight loss is mostly diet. Exercise can allow you to lose quicker, or to eat more, but you won't lose weight no matter how much you're exercising if you're not in caloric deficit. Eat less/track better, and then see if you lose.
  • Hi, we have a similar story. I was very athletic and thin when I was young, and gained a lot of weight in a short while (10 lbs in a few months, lol). I'm 5'1, started on MFP at 130 lbs, and am now 102 lbs. I ate 1200 calories a day to lose weight, because my TDEE as a short girl was very low, and has only continued to get…
  • Sorry, but there really is no way to target fat on specific body parts. Where you gain and lose fat is largely genetic. Just keep losing weight and it will probably reduce some.
  • Maybe what you're doing is enough to keep you from gaining, but not enough to start losing. My friend cut out a lot of sugary stuff from her diet, and was disappointed that she didn't lose weight -- then, we realized that she'd been consistently gaining weight before, and so even with all of her diet changes, it was only…
  • Wow, it's so obvious in the face and waist-- great job!
  • Maybe someone who never thought about their weight wouldn't notice a gain, but if he already went through a weight loss process, then he almost certainly would realize he's gaining it back. I wouldn't mention it.
  • Any diet that will help you keep in a deficit will allow you to lose weight. I personally don't think keto is that much better or worse than any other 'diet'; I don't cut any foods from my diet. I just eat smaller portions.
  • Eh, fast food may not be the 'healthiest' food around, but if you're still at a deficit, then you should still be losing, regardless of what you're eating (I eat fast food every day, including muffins and cakes, and I still lost weight to my goal). If you're not losing anymore weight, then you are not in deficit anymore.…
  • Yep, at my lowest weight ever, I had a BMI of 18.0, which is underweight, and I still didn't have a thigh gap (fat tends to store in my thighs and hips, and I'm slightly knock-kneed). I have friends who have much higher BMIs who have thigh gaps. The 'thigh gap' thing is mostly bone structure--and both having and not having…
  • I lost weight. Friend who desperately wants to lose weight asked me for my 'secret'. I told her I counted calories and did a lot more walking than I used to (also, take stairs whenever possible, pace rather than sit, etc.). She was like "oh", and hasn't brought it up with me since. She just does juice fasts and things.
  • YES, calorie counting is the best. It clears up all the confusion, the paranoia, the magical thinking. Just eat your calculated deficit, and you're good to go.
  • Using the same amount of time to run/lift weights/exercise would probably yield better results.
  • Actually enjoying clothes shopping and looking in mirrors, rather than avoiding both like the plague. Catching a glimpse of yourself in a reflection and getting a nice "I look good" boost, rather than feeling disgusted and defeated. Not feeling paranoid that people will look at me and think, "She's chubby".
  • Hey, thanks for the suggestions everyone! They've been so helpful! I think I'll just try to do this. I'll stick to an apple or a yogurt cup for breakfast/lunch, and then order whatever entree I want for dinner (with one dessert). I figure no matter what, I couldn't gain too much weight this way, even with my low TDEE,…
  • It's not that I don't WANT to count calories. Counting calories is a godsend; it's the only thing that keeps me on track and prevents me from being neurotic about food (since I know exactly what's going into my body). The problem is that I literally have no option to count calories anymore. None of the campus locations…
  • I'm 5'1, and 103-105 lbs. My BMR is below 1200 and my TDEE is 1400 (up to 1600, if exercise 3 times a week). I basically was doing intermittent fasting while losing weight, but still counting calories. Even if I limited my eating to only an hour a day, I could definitely eat enough in that time to gain weight (again,…
  • OP, if fasting makes you binge on food later in the day, then it's not the right weight-loss method for you. There's nothing special about fasting as a weight loss plan (I presume you're talking about intermittent fasting); its main advantage is that for some people, it helps them reduce their calorie intake. If fasting…
  • Would depend on whether I was born into money.
  • I actually find it rude to bring up a person's weight loss, unless they bring it up to me first, unambiguously. I don't know if this person wants their weightloss to be called to attention, or if they were suffering from an illness or something. Similarly, I will never ask anyone about their pregnancy, unless I know for a…
  • Actually, it isn't. 4'10 and 92 lbs gives a BMI of 19.2. BMI has to be below 18.5 to be considered underweight. However, 92 seems a pretty good weight for your height, OP. Why do you want to lose weight? Maybe try weight-lifting if you feel like you're kind of 'flabby'.
  • I'm sorry that happened to you; there's nothing disgusting about breast size, whether small or large. You will probably be able to qualify for breast reduction surgery in a few years if it's hurting your back. Maybe try finding some special supporting bras?
  • Your TDEE decreases when you lose weight. You might have underestimated calories before but your TDEE was high enough at the time that you were still in deficit. Now that you've lost weight and your TDEE is lower, you are possibly no longer in deficit. Maybe reevaluate how you're estimating calories burned?
