Of course people can die before they completely waste away. There are many things that can kill you before you starve to death. But many starving people do waste away.
-
You're the one that brought it up. And yes I looked at your profile because your username looked familiar. I don't know what your obsession is with me, but you sure do try hard to find every post I make and comment.
-
Please show me where I said you can survive indefinitely. By my logic, people would waste away before dying which is exactly what happens.
-
How many people have you heard of who ignore their doctor's orders? You're an EMT. You know perfectly well that many people are noncompliant.
-
Happens with skeletal muscle. Sorry I wasn't clear.
-
Yeah because it's completely unheard of for someone to be eating nothing but junk when on a diet. And the fact that her hair was falling out and she had a couple of symptoms of dehydration must mean she was eating nothing but nutrient dense foods, huh?
-
Except you don't need 93g of protein. Half of that would be sufficient.
-
RDA isn't the same as what is necessary to survive. It's the optimal amount based on current knowledge. Someone could theoretically eat near 0 calories under medical supervision to lose weight. It wouldn't be optimal, but if the person was sufficiently obese, it may be preferable.
-
Actually your body would start breaking down your muscle and turning it into glucose if you stopped consuming anything at all. Gluconeogenesis can actually cause your blood glucose to increase beyond what is normal.
-
Lack of protein doesn't require a caloric increase. It just may mean you need to eat chicken instead of cookies.
-
Your body can continue to regulate blood sugar through gluconeogenesis. In healthy people, it wouldn't be an issue. I work as a chemist for a pharmaceutical company. I'm pretty sure I know how hypoglycemia works considering I work with insulin every day.

All of which have nothing to do with calories and everything to do with being malnourished. Lack of protein = hair falling out. Heart palpitations = most likely electrolyte imbalance/dehydration. Fainting = also most likely electrolyte imbalance/dehydration. Some protein, calcium, potassium, sodium, and increase water…

A medically supervised 500 calorie diet is arguably less dangerous than an unsupervised 1200 calorie diet. You can still be malnourished eating more calories. Again, it's not the calories that matter here. it's the nutrients. One of the reasons people on unsupervised VLCDs end up dying is because their heart stops from…
-
500 calories is not dangerous if you're medically supervised. The reason people say don't go below 800 or 1200 or 1500 calories isn't because you need a certain number of calories while losing weight. It's because it's easier to get enough nutrients in that amount of food. If the doctor is supervising, making sure she's…

A can of plain pinto beans with no seasoning has more calories than a McDouble from McDonalds. I don't know why you wouldn't count that.

There's nothing wrong with junk food in moderation. The problem with junk food is it tends to be calorie dense without providing very many nutrients. A lot of people, myself included, continue to eat junk food while dieting. It doesn't prevent you from losing weight. My advice is if you can control your portions, then…

It really depends on the calorie density of the food. Try eating 200 calories of cabbage. It's probably more than you can eat at one time since that's about an entire head of cabbage. Or you can eat 200 calories of steak which is just a couple bites.
-
Do you like cabbage? It's super low in calories. A whole head of cabbage is like 200-300 calories which is way more than a normal person could eat. Tyson grilled chicken is about 110 calories per breast, so you can make a 200-250 calorie sandwich which is pretty filling because of the protein. Baked potatoes are another…

Baked potato. Cabbage. 2-3 pieces of fruit. Beans. A grilled chicken sandwich (The tyson grilled chicken is about 110 calories and 2 pieces of bread would be about 120. 230 calories total and pretty filling) Take your pick. There are plenty of options to stay around 200 calories for one meal and still feel satisfied.

I don't do keto, but I do have one little warning. Ketosis is tough on your kidneys. Be prepared to possibly develop kidney stones If you do it, drink plenty of water.

You'd have to stop taking them and have it done again if you want to find out for sure. The dose you take in supplements is usually much less than what would be considered excessive, so the fact that nothing was flagged isn't surprising. You may still be getting enough nutrients from food. Only one way to find out
-
You should talk to your doctor about it. Nobody here can answer for you. Your doctor can do blood tests to find out if you're getting enough nutrients in your food or not. Whether or not someone needs a multivitamin or other supplements depends on their diet, activity, genetics, and health problems.

Oh god. I was in the hospital for a couple days about 3 weeks ago. The food was horrible. Flavorless green beans that were boiled in plain water, overcooked grilled chicken that was soaked in vinegar for some odd reason, french toast with no sugar, scrambled eggs that tasted like they were boiled in water, potatoes that…

I weigh myself multiple times a day. I don't worry about the fluctuations though. I like seeing how what I eat and drink affect the numbers on the scale. I think it's easier to see the weight loss when you weigh often. You'll see when you have a new low that you've never hit before. A couple days later that loss may…

I've found some foods can easily have twice as many calories as advertised because the serving size isn't consistent.
-
Exercising doesn't really burn that many calories compared to what you burn by just living. You don't need to exercise to lose weight. With that said, if you're interested in doing some exercise, ask your doctor for a referral to a physical therapist. It's covered by most health insurance plans. They'll work with you and…

There have been times when I just didn't feel up to dieting, felt hungry, and just switched to maintenance until the feeling passed. You don't have to consistently lose weight. Just don't gain anything back. There's nothing wrong with eating up to your maintenance for a while until your motivation returns.

It really depends on how much you have to lose and how much your deficit is. I've lost a lot and still have a lot left to lose, so I don't worry about condiments. It's going to have a negligible effect on my weight loss. If someone just has a few pounds to lose and they have a very low deficit, then obviously they need to…

I've lost 55 lbs so far. There isn't a single food or beverage that I've completely stopped consuming. If I want a cookie then I'm going to eat a cookie. I won't eat a whole bag of cookies, but I will have one or two. I'm not a soda drinker, but once a month I might just want a glass of it. I'm not going to feel bad about…

Feeling guilty for eating isn't good. If you think you need to deprive yourself or punish yourself to lose weight, then you're going about it all wrong. You'll either develop an eating disorder or have trouble sticking to the diet.
