Weight can fluctuate by a few pounds. Many people recommend weighing weekly to account for this. I prefer to weigh daily, plot my weight daily and see where it hovers around. To do that, though, you have to get not too worked up and panicked when it goes up. Sort of viewing your weight as a semi-obedient puppy rather than…

So true. Which is why I hate when people demonize foods. Our bodies can be very different. There are a lot of things that go into what foods you choose -- including pleasure and convenience.

I'm glad you were able to see the humor in it because wow, so inappropriate. I think it was Miss Manners who said we'd all be better off if we concerned ourselves less with what other people are eating and drinking. I keep trying to think of snappy comebacks: "Why yes, I can." [pops goodie into mouth, chews slowly, making…

If I ignored what it says I burned in exercise on a day I ride my bike 20-30 miles, I'd dream of eating marshmallows and wake up with the pillows gone, belching polyester fluff. Depends. Depends on whether you're going MFP or TDEE. I'd say, too, it depends on how intense you are on the exercise.

May sound strange, but I went to the home improvement store and got a short chunk of big PVC pipe. I taped/glued fabric to it for traction and stuck it under my desk. I can at least slip off my shoes, roll it back and forth and keep my legs moving somewhat. Less expensive than an under-desk cycle and less chance of bumping…

Really appreciate all the helpful suggestions. Right now I am going to shoot for at least 20 grams of protein per meal and a bare minimum of 90 per day, preferably more. I've been hitting over 100 a lot lately. I realize this is lower than many suggest, but I think this is about what I can manage given my calorie goals and…

I love it. Cup of coffee with whole milk, blackstrap molasses and cocoa powder.... yum! As for why whole, I switched from skim to whole a few years ago as an experiment. I felt better mentally, my cholesterol stayed the same and my trigylcerides dropped. Go figure. Earlier this year I dallied with skim again playing with…

Cottage cheese is a definite favorite! I like to add sunflower or pumpkin seeds to it. Blueberries and cottage cheese is the best, I think. I've also made a pretty decent salad dressing whirring cottage cheese with roasted red peppers, tomato, fresh garlic, a little oil and vinegar and spices in the blender. Thanks!

Tanka bars and sticks are lower fat and lower sodium than a lot of other beef jerky/beef sticks.

My best get ever was a Pendleton wool skirt with the original $98 price tag still attached... for $2. Granted, it was an older-style pencil skirt, but I'm a librarian so I'm totally able to rock a retro pencil skirt, with cardigan.

I've had no use for Dr. Oz for a long time now. Generally the rule of thumb is that if something is strong enough to have an effect, it's strong enough to have side effects. You don't get out of the risk/benefit analysis just because it's a "natural" product.

I dunno, I kind of like the thrill of the hunt that comes from shopping in thrift stores. I find much nicer name-brand clothing than I could afford on a regular basis. Plus I've discovered that if it held up well enough to still be usable secondhand, it will probably hold up. I've had more new clothing fall apart on me…

Fair enough questions -- I'm down to 148 pounds right now. Through concerted effort, I've been generally getting my protein grams up to 90 or more on a more regular basis than I was. I know they're convenient, but I don't like protein powders and bars much because I prefer less-processed foods. The powder makes my…

Thank you, both. I think one of the things that was weirding me out was that I was worried about getting too high a fat macro when I would toss in seeds and nuts and eat my whole fat dairy (oh, once I switched from skim I never wanted to go back!). If I'm hearing you both correctly, and please correct me if I'm wrong,…

I'm glad to hear some people reporting success with weaning themselves off the tracking. I am hoping to use this to re-train my eating habits, but be able to fly free eventually. If it turns out I can't, if I stop tracking and I gain, I'll go back to it.

Ever try cayenne in your hot cocoa? yumyumyum! Mine is I won't give up my whole-milk dairy products, period. I just feel better than I do on skim, so I run with that.

I've had better luck buying Champion bras online and getting the high support ones. I look for the ones that come in actual band + cup sizes instead of S-M-L-XL -- those always seem to fit a lot better for me.

Spaghetti. It's a Cincinnati thing. Topped with finely chopped onion -- preferably white onion -- and cheddar cheese. I usually use plain yogurt instead of sour cream if I want a dollop of something. Of course, I use full-fat yogurt so it's less of a stretch, but I've done nonfat Greek yogurt before. All toppings optional.…

I debated whether to answer this thread, but I keep thinking about it, SO... Twice in my life I have lost significant weight not because I was getting my life together, but because it was falling apart. The first time, well-meaning compliments reinforced some self-destructive behavior I was engaging in. The second time, it…

Love beets. This looks heavenly. They're also good roasted rubbed with just a little bit of olive oil. Or raw, grated in smoothies. Mmmmmm......

My two go-tos are dates (about 20 cals each) and Nilla Wafers (about 16 each). I can eat just 2 or 3 of either and feel like I've gotten my sweet treat without going overboard.

Not interfering with my weight loss, but coffeecoffeecoffee, definitely. I see no reason to give it up. I've tried, and it never ends well. I drink totally abusive amounts of it -- typically a full pot of regular a day, plus some decaf in the evenings. I log it, not because I'm worried about the 14 calories, but because I…

Will they eat sauteed onions? Green beans sauteed with onions (doesn't take a whole lot of oil) are good. You can also make them with tomatoes and/or mushrooms.

I've read a lot of things that say you end up liking what you eat, rather than eating what you like, if that makes sense. Over time, if it's what's on the table, it's what your taste buds get used to. I do like your idea of getting to veto one food, although I think pickled herring and sardines should count as one food for…

The cantaloupe + shredded beet + peeled, deseeded cucumber + yogurt + ground flaxseed smoothie this morning was pretty good -- better than it might sound. Flourescent pink as well. The color of those pink highlighters, actually.

Sweet potato and tomato soup, with or without red lentils. Saute some garlic and onions until translucent. Add broth/water combo (reduces sodium. Add a sweet potato and (optional) 1/2 cup or so red lentils and cook until soft. Add canned, chopped, no-salt tomatoes and basil or Italian seasoning if desired. Use immersion…

They're already roasted, but they're not the cleaned-up red peppers like you get in the store. They're a green pepper, roasted whole and the charred skin is still on them in bits and pieces. In years past, people have roasted them at the market in big rotating cage things. When they roasted them there, it always smelled a…

I found wonderful habanero pepper jelly at the farmers market. This + cider vinegar + (optional, since you said you were trying to avoid oil) a wee bit of sesame oil, then grill it, basting it with the marinade as you grill. A little goes a long way with the sesame oil, if you want to try that. Without the sesame oil, I'd…
