I had a Mio Drive HRM without the chest strap, and, to be honest, it was a pain in the neck. It probably depends on if you're just using it to monitor your HR, or if you want to use the calorie burn. At least for me, I found that the calorie burn wasn't very accurate because your heartrate is constantly changing and the…

Never heard of this... but it sounds interesting! Thanks!

You have a lower BMI than 87% of females aged 30-44 in your country You have a lower BMI than 62% of females aged 30-44 in the world If everyone in the world had the same BMI as you, it would remove 17,235,124 tonnes from the total weight of the world's population. You're most like someone from Madagascar.

This is my issue, too! At 118 lbs, I'm exactly what I weighed when I got married and 2 lbs. above my "perfect BMI" weight, so really, I'm quite happy with the number itself! As you say, everyone exclaims over how I look, but, I'm very aware of the problem areas and wonder if a few pounds would make a difference or if it…

We also grill zucchini and right before it's done put sauce and a little mozzarella on top of it. YUM! It's also good warmed over leftover chicken.

1560 cals plus exercise, so I usually eat 1700-1800 calories. Height - 5ft 1in. CW - 118 Exercise 30-40 minutes 5-6 days/week

Ditto as everyone else. 2 lbs. on either side.

I don't use artificial sweeteners, either. My all-time favorite is brown sugar, although it's not the most nutrient dense. I found these definitions from the Mayo Clinic, which might help you to know what's processed and what's not: Brown sugar. Granulated white sugar with added molasses for flavor and color, commonly used…

I understand where you're coming from, and I sort of had the same concerns a few months ago. But now I realize that this health consciousness is a part of my new lifestyle and MFP is just a tool to help me maintain something I feel is valuable. I'm sure there are some who have made their health an obsession, but it doesn't…

You are amazingly consistent, friend! :) Right now, you have generally around a 700 calorie deficit at the end of the day, which means weight loss, unless there's a metabolic problem. What would happen if you shoot to decrease that deficit to, say, no more than 350 calorie deficit? It'll be your choice to either eat more…

As someone else said, you can have whatever you want, as long as you make room for it in your daily calories/macros. I used to love vending machine cappuccino, but cut waayyy back due to the empty calories. However, I still have my coffee everyday. I add brown sugar, cocoa powder and milk to make sort of a mocha latte. In…

I worked in the healthcare system for years and can tell you that most of the people got into that profession because they wanted to help people. It doesn't take long to figure out that humans can only do so much and that, unfortunately, there is also a lot of bureaucracy that hinders quality care (healthcare worker to…

Here's another idea! Why don't you make a deal with him that you will learn something that he can do, but you can't (maybe auto mechanic work/accounting, etc.) if he learns the basics of cooking? Then, both of you will be improving yourselves and feeling like the other is interested in being a team! It's a win-win!

My husband pretty much stays out of the kitchen, which is fine by me. He excels in other areas and if push came to shove, he would figure it out. But, if it bothers you that much, I agree with those who have suggested to start off simple. Maybe you could prepare part of the meal and leave him instructions on how to finish…

Although I never used them with my kids, I totally understand your uneasiness about taking them to an unknown place where there are lots of people and opportunities to find trouble. Some kids thrive on giving their parents heart attacks by ducking out of view the second they look away! LOL There are a couple different…

It's okay to eat at least part of the calories that you burn. Lots of us do, and it actually has helped weight loss!

Are you a member of the Maintenance group? Your post made me go on a search and I found it and think it might be helpful for those of us looking to maintain! :)

When I started doing a little strength training, my weight went up a bit, too. I did a little research, and it seems that its all a part of DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness). Apparently, the body retains some fluid in an effort to repair your muscles. It might happen for a while every time you hit a new level, but it…

It's totally relative. For a 6' slim guy, 6 mph probably is a slow jog. For a 5'1" shortie like me, 6 mph is a comfortable run. You may not win any races at 6 mph, but you can definitely increase your stamina and help yourself toward your fitness goals. Little by little, you'll shave off seconds and you'll never know how…

I have regular pop (usually some kind of cola) about once a week or less. I like it, but I think it's a waste of money and calories, so mainly stick with water and coffee. I will not drink diet... that's some nasty stuff!

Awww... I understand what you're saying! I haven't seen this weight for quite a few years, so I was unpleasantly surprised to see the changes that babies and age make in your belly and chest! (Also... don't be too hard on your husband. I'll bet he felt awful after it was out. Consider it a bad case of…

I don't know about "starvation mode", but my own experience leads me to believe that there is such a thing as "preservation" mode. Here's my "theory" ...Our bodies adapt to what and how much we are eating. So, of course a person can lose quickly (at least for a while) with a VLCD, but eventually the body adapts the…

So, can I eat eggs or not? Seriously, anyone who watches the workings of science at all knows that "facts" change. To assume that someone who chooses to believe in a deity also chooses to ignore all science is a faulty assumption. If that were the case, there would only be atheistic scientists. However, science…

So, the point is not that you have faith, but that you're willing to give up your faith if a better alternative arises or if the object of faith fails? And, yes, I was referring to science, although I think we're digressing from the original post! LOL For instance, anyone interested in science knows that the foundational…

Then, we ALL have faith in something. No? For some things, we (meaning all of us) have to accept anecdotal evidence or the results of the process of elimination, because there is currently no solid "proof" to back up what we believe to be true.
-
I asked this earlier, but I believe it got lost in the shuffle: From an atheist's point of view, what is faith?
-
Your answer makes me wonder, and perhaps you can help us to understand you better. From an atheist's point of view, what is "faith"?

Wow! Hope they taste as good as they look! Thanks!

Too funny! Thanks!

No, I don't think it's the "norm", either. Now that I've started watching my health, sometimes I just look around me as I'm going through my day and sort of mentally note the number of people that are NOT overweight vs. those that are. At least in my part of the US, the overweight crowd wins by far. But, I don't see any…
