I lift three days a week (at home). Each workout takes me about 45 minutes. I don't waste any time at all though.

In that case, you should determine your TDEE and then build a meal plan around it. You can then determine your caloric burn from walking and know exactly (or nearly) how many calories you are expending daily. Log your food accurately and track your progress for one month. Adjust as needed.

Viable option for what? There's no scientific evidence that essential oils will help you recover or lose weight. If you like the way they smell go ahead. :)

Could be. I didn't interpret it that way. BTW, there is an error in my running formula. It is actually (0.63)x(miles run)x(body weight in pounds)
-
Don't add anything. Stick with your current plan and weigh yourself weekly to determine your progress. You can't accurately log calories burned during strength training.

You're welcome. It looks to me like you are severely overestimating your calories burned while walking. I just calculated 5.9 miles of walking at my weight and it came out to around 323. Your estimate above is almost 2200. There's no way that's correct. I recommend you use the formula I gave you above as a baseline.

As a rule of thumb, calories burned walking are about (0.3)x(miles walked)x(body weight in pounds). (0.61)x(miles run)x(body weight in pounds) for running. So for me (190 pounds), I burn 57 calories per mile walked and about 116 per mile run.

I live in Arizona so that's never a problem. I forget that others have to deal with it.

The bench press was way too easy at first so I made a big jump on that lift. Otherwise, I've pretty much stuck with it as is. Don't complicate things.
-
Sorry, I just saw your speed (6 km/h). That's just under 300 calories.
-
Cycling at 16-20 mph is about 40 cal/mile. Walking is around 0.61 X distance in miles X weight in lbs. Walking up to 4 mph is about half that. Assuming 5 miles of jogging, at 140lbs you burned about 430 calories.

I'm doing SL 5X5. Been on the program for just over a month. I also cycle a couple of times a week. If you do start, get the smartphone app.

Why not just start walking outside? Treadmills are so boring.

That distance seems too far for a retriever. I'd worry about her hips in particular. Some dogs could handle that distance (salukis, for example), but I'd worry about dogs that weren't specifically bred to run long distances.

Move to Arizona. Although it's raining here today! :D

Without knowing how much you are eating and what your TDEE is, there is no way anyone can offer you specific advice. We can say "eat more" which is generally correct, but we need to know specifically what your history is, what your workout plan looks like, and what you are putting into your body to give you any better…

I don't think I've ever seen a post that was so right and yet so, so wrong.

I think you mean "died".

45% protein is pretty high. I aim for 1g protein per pound lean mass. In my case, that's 150g per day. After that I just aim to hit my calorie target for the day. I used to try 40-30-30, but it was too much of a hassle trying to make the numbers work. If I were you, I'd aim for 30% protein and then just aim for your…

Another vote for Stronglifts 5x5. The smartphone app takes out the guesswork. SL will help you build functional strength and a foundation when you are ready to move to an intermediate plan. Simplicity is best for beginners.

Monitoring your food is the best way to lose weight. Exercise can help, but it is primarily to increase your fitness (cardiovascular, strength, etc.). People don't realize how much energy food really contains, and, consequently, they underestimate the amount of work required to lose weight. For example, three Oreos (that…

Great work on the weight loss! Your calorie burn looks highly optimistic. Studies show that walking burns about (.3 calories)(body weight in pounds)/mile. At your weight (250lb), that works out to about 800 calories. Maybe a bit more if your doing a lot of climbing. Still, whatever you're doing seems to be working. Great…

Not many at all. Yoga helps with flexibility not with weight loss.

The act of simply working to keep the bike upright requires more effort. When you ride a trainer or an exercise bike you don't have to worry about that.

OK, I agree. They are fun when done correctly; however, they are specialized, highly technical movements that are specifically used for competition. No one should be teaching themselves to do them. It's way too easy to injure yourself if you don't know what you're doing.

A power clean is a combination deadlift, upright row and front squat. You can break the movement into its individual components and get the same benefits without a coach. The only reason to learn the olympic lifts is if you want to compete in meets. If you're going to do the oly lifts you should definitely get a coach.

You said you were trying to drink the recommended amount of water. My point is that there is no recommended amount. Drinking water in place of things like soda is definitely a good thing, but there is little point to trying to hit some number of glasses because someone said that was what you should do. There is no…
