  • I drink an average of 3 litres of water per day plus 3-4 mugs of coffee (black) and possibly a couple of mugs of peppermint tea if I'm trying to avoid food! I have been doing this for over 20 years since I heard it would help clear my skin. it didn't but skin didn't get any worse and I think the overall health benefits…
  • Echoing the need to stretch the calves! I find that some days I can get away with not stretching until the run is over. Some days, like this morning, I needed to stretch before the first mile was done! Mind you, I was running so much better afterwards it must be the right thing to do! I hold the early run stretches for…
  • I don't feel sexy every day but at the start of May, I went out to a dinner where the 200 guests were predominantly male. I wore a new dress made from a much clingier fabric than I normally wear and YES!! For only about the 2nd time in my life, I felt sexy. The male attention was wonderful and I felt good for at least a…
  • Along with the other suggestions of not pushing yourself as hard, are you all stretching properly? I've never done the DVD but the exercise DVD's I have done don't impress me with the small amount of stretching at the end!
  • Well done you. I too did the fists to the stomach thing until only 3 years ago, hating what I now know were non-existent 'fat' bits. I'm not as advanced as you regarding being able to look in the mirror and hate what I see, but occasionally, just occasionally, I find myself looking and thinking 'Maybe I'm not as bad as I…
  • Yes! Yes!Yes! Go running in the rain - it's GREAT!! Not so good in the winter but this time of year, running in the rain is brilliant - I don't bother with waterproofs as I get wet with sweat anyway (yeuck!) but just the feeling of all this water pouring down over me -I love it! And sploshing through the puddles is…
  • 17lbs since march is FANTASTIC! That's over a stone. I've been doing this for10 weeks and not lost a pound. Actually that's not true - I HAVE lost a pound then it goes back on the next week and off the next and back on.........
  • I regularly drink 3+ litres of water per day plus coffee/tea etc and haven't lost an ounce. However I have always drunk lots of water but having read some of the comments I think I might try cutting back a bit! B x
  • Mine are rather irregular and heavy - I'm one of the triple figure mooncup users!! About 3 weeks after my last period I get an overwhelming desire to stuff my face. Lately I've resisted that pretty well. The few days before I start I'm so exhausted it's as much as I can do to put one foot in front of the other. Exercise is…
  • I would say go for the C25K program but as you are fitter you will be able to run faster in the running sections! A friend of mine did this program, she could run for 5 miles non stop at 12-13 minutes per mile. By the time she had finished the programme she was down to a 9-10 minute mile and now runs 5 miles in around 45…
  • I find a cup of tea with a sweetener helps my post 7pm "got to eat" cravings! It doesn't matter how much I'veeaten during the day or how big my evening meal was. I did make the mistake once of drinking 2 cans of diet pepsi during the evening - never had a sugar/caffeine hit before then and had the most rubbish nights sleep…
  • Thanks erick. I will try that. Being in a desk job all my activity tends to be first thing in the morning so maybe I need to walk/run in the evening as well! B x
  • I'm in the same boat!! Increased exercise, decreased food and STILL 170lbs! Surely something should have shifted! B x
  • I do! If I know I'm going out at the weekend, then I will try to be under calories throughout the week. I make sure my weekly total is correct though! Same as if I was going out tomorrow night then I might do an extra couple of miles on my run so I don't have to do without too many goodies! However, as you can see from my…
  • Oh and a p.s. I'm not losing any inches either as my clothes don't feel any better but my flabby stomach has toned up a little!!
  • Blimey!! Wasn't expecting such a response so quickly so a big THANK YOU to all of you for replying and offering words of wisdom!.And apologies for the epistle which follows! I'm 5ft 9", 42 years old and currently 170lbs. My aim was to be 158-160lbs by August when I started MFP in March. net calories 1200 per day. I run 4…
  • I sweat more now I'm fitter. I run 4 miles every weekday morning and 4 months ago I was just a bit warm. Now I'm going faster (just done it in 40 minutes!) I am literally dripping when I stop! I love this as it makes me feel as though i've worked really hard.....>! B x
  • It's a bit late now but don't the experts recommend a recovery run the day after or 2 days after a big race? It's the lactic acid build up which is making you feel rubbish and if you exercise the muscles you have used it will help disperse this more quickly. If you can't face a run/jog try a brisk walk. B x
  • I weigh myself first thing in the morning as soon as I have been to the toilet! It's not my lightest time but it gives an indication. I did an experiment last year which really helped me put the number on the scales into perspective - I weighed myself several times a day for a week and the results were very interesting.…
  • The biggest tip I ever had was not to beat yourself up (feel bad) if you don't run as well one day. It's OK to walk! You burn as many calories doing a 4 mile walk as you do on a 4 mile run - it just takes longer. Funnily enough once I got that into my head and accepted it, I didn't need to walk anymore and can now…
  • We have 2 labradors both about 7 years old, one black one yellow, and they come for a run (cross country so off leads) with me every morning for about 4 miles and at the weekend up to 7 or 8. Hubby takes them out running as well but he tends to do short sprints on one particular field so the dogs go off and mooch around. I…
  • It's interesting reading all your comments as I too have been frustrated at my slow weight loss, especially when you consider how quickly it went on! However I have found myself inadvertently going over my daily allowance and even running for 4 miles per day only burns off 400 calories. One thing which doesn't help me is…
  • Thanks everyone! It appears that I may be underestimating the calories used..................! Another excuse to get a HRM B xx
  • That average heart rate doesn't seem overly high to me - when I used a HRM my heart rate always shot up but then came down really quickly once I slowed down. If you were doing hills on your trail as well then it would bump up your average quite a bit.
  • If I see anyone jogging/running then walking, I don't laugh - I think thank heavens I'm not the only one who has to walk and it does my confidence the world of good!! I'm another vote for outdoors whenever possible. Don't forget that if you can go cross country it will also help your core muscles as it's harder to…
  • OP, how much spaghetti did you have? That seems to me as though it must have been a HUGE plateful to contain so many calories. Are you using the dried weight calories when you weighed it cooked? MAkes a difference!! I try to limit pasta and rice to 50-75g dried weight and cooked I have one spoonfull - with rice that's…
  • Some great suggestions here! My problem time is from the minute I walk in home, whether it's after school run at 3.30 or later, until I have got my evening meal ready, whatever it is, whatever I have eaten that day. I always seem to blow my diet! However, from now on I will try doing sit ups, push ups, etc whilst dinner is…
  • Can't offer any alternatives but WOW am I impressed by your willpower! If I had bars in my desk drawer they would be gone. If I'm at work and haven't brought any thing to eat then I have to go out to buy it and if I don't buy it I don't eat it........... If I can get that into my head then I MAY start losing weight! B x

  • Hi there, I usually go for Asics, depending on the money I have will depend on the shoe! I never pay less than £70 for running shoes especially if doing mainly road work, and that price is the discounted price! I have triedNew Balance which my sister swears by but didn't get on with them. If you can, try to go to a running…
  • What do you do at the gym? Are you 'picking' at food thinking you have burned loads of calories at the gym when you've actually only burned a hundred or so? I have gained weight becuase I fell into that trap! It's worth monitoring EVERYTHING that goes into your mouth and every bit of exercise - not just guesstimating it! B…
