  • Blimey!! Thats a lot of bikes!!! I have two road bikes - a Giant Defy Mens Large that I've used over many miles for the past couple of years and my new gorgeous shiny red/black medium frame Liv Avail SL that I bought in January! Its still so-o-o-o shiny and so easy to ride as it's been fitted to me! Haven't noticed much…
  • I'm in England and use a 24/7 gym at 5am. Its a big space and with only 10-12 of us there, we rarely get closer than a couple of metres (at that time of the morning we are all a bit anti-social anyway even preCOVID). I wear gloves which I hope diminishes my risk of catching and/or passing on the virus as well as wiping…
  • I don't think there's any quick fix but would advise just do it. I've been doing it for years started when I was 15 getting up to look after a horse) and as my children were all early risers I've never lost the habit. It isn't easy when its dark and cold out but I make sure all my kit is laid out ready, don't hit the…
  • I don't weigh my lettuce or cucumber but rarely include more than those items, a tomato, some pepper and a couple of radishes in my salad - the whole lot comes to around 80 cals I think! Its the dressing that does the damage.
  • I use a MyZone HRM and I tend to burn around 30 cals a mile on flat and steady routes but up to 40cals a mile on hilly routes. I usually work on 30 cals a mile on the assumption that if I've burned more then its going to be of benefit!
  • You have serious enough swelling of your ankles and calves that you can write in the indentations, your face is puffy and your clothes feel tight. GET TO A DOCTOR!!! With that amount of swelling you could be seriously ill.
  • I drink between 4 and 5 litres of water a day plus 3-4 cups of tea/coffee. Sometimes I pee a lot, others not so much. i think you can train your bladder to hold more - my chemistry teacher at high school used to love telling those of us who asked for a toilet break that when we feel like our bladder is bursting, it can…
  • Hello! I am 50, certainly peri-menopause and this month am having a continuous period!! It should have finished 6 days ago but is still leaking away! Other symptoms are joint aches and pains, memory issues, brain fog, exploding waistline and sleep problems. Not helped by having to miss two weeks in the gym whilst dog…

  • I LOVE my Selle Italia Diva saddle - even after 100+ kms I don't get numb 'bits'. My boyfriend liked my saddle so much he bought his own for his bike!
  • Might have been electrolyte imbalance - we did another 100km ride on Saturday and it was very warm. I got through 6 bottles of water with a Hi 5 electrolyte tab in each of them. Plus pure water and diet coke afterwards. no aches and pains this week. Thanks for all the input regarding electrolytes - I've never paid much…
  • I have a mental block with full press ups and also pull ups. I just can't do them, even though I can when I'm with my PT! Same with pushing the weights - when I train alone, I never find my one rep max as I just can't push it!
  • I have one and LOVE it! Its really helped me recognise just how hard I need to work to burn those darned calories. And which exercises get my heart rate up consistently! I use it every time I exercise either in the gym with weights or on my bike for a long ride. Except for this morning when for some reason it didn't…
  • I actually weighted out my peanut butter yesterday and found that I was having much less than I was logging so it can work both ways!! :D
  • You are female. You are not designed to have a perfectly flat stomach. Your stomach area is designed to expand when it grows an infant. If you couldn't do that with your skin, it wouldn't expand and your stomach would burst open when you grow a baby! Please please please stop being so hard on yourself. You have an amazing…
  • What was it that made you feel unsafe? Were the pedals clip-in ones? If so, yes they take practise to master but you don't HAVE to use them - start with toe cages (not the right name for them!) if you don't want the full clip thing immediately. Was the bike frame too big for you? Or the reach? I've only been riding a road…
  • I can't get past the fact that you had a baby on 1st January and its now only 3rd April and you're fretting about not losing weight quickly enough! Your body has just done the most miraculous thing - created and nurtured a new life for 9 whole months then given birth! And now you're restricting the fuel you give it and…
  • Thanks Libby - it just seems a bit silly when other people on here are posting much bigger weights and achievements! :D
  • I understood rowing to be one of the best all-round workouts you can do! If you are using the correct technique it not only works your arms/shoulders but also your abs, glutes and hammies.
  • Hi Misskitty- Since I've been eating in a more balanced and healthy I find that I crave carbs for 2 days before my period. Nothing major but at lunchtime, instead of a cup of coffee being more than adequate ( i have a sedentary job and sit down all day so don't really need fuel outside of breakfast and evening meal) I…
  • Check your trainers - treadmills have more cushioning than roads and fields so you may find that you need better quality trainers for outdoor runs.
  • I am fatter than I was because I am less active. I no longer walk the dogs (both were pts last year) or play and coach rugby, or go running. I do work much harder in the gym at lifting and believe that I am stronger but I have not moderated my eating enough to take into account my less active lifestyle. And I don't think I…
  • Had the same problem after putting our 14 year old lab to sleep last May. I still walk/jog to the gym but lose out on another 4000 steps wandering the streets with the dog. I just try and force myself to walk round the block but more often than not, stay in the warm and dry and tell myself I will get out more when its…
  • You rub butter into chicken skin before roasting?! I only ever chuck it in the oven - sometimes rub some soy sauce into the skin but nothing else. Have I been roasting chicken wrong all these years?
  • My gym tends to be busier on Monday and Tuesday mornings (5am) overall and although I haven't noticed a vast increase in numbers this year at that time, I've noticed more gym newbies who have previously just done classes. They get all the equipment they need for their entire workout, pile it up next to them and then work…
  • cmriverside - I do apologise for my generalisation and appreciate that there must be lots of people in those countries who do care.
  • Thanks Wishusdonna - how on earth are we supposed to distinguish between true vegetable oil and palm oil 'vegetable oil'?! And does Glyceryl always have PO in it? I have so many questions!! I saw that list from WWF but I guess that, as a teeny tiny consumer in a vast global market, I will be content with doing the little…
  • Is there a list anywhere which will summarise those items using Palm Oil? I saw one really good one but it was Australian. It said Milky Way did use PO but Cadbury didn't and I KNOW Cadbury chocolate has PO in it! And is sustainable PO really sustainable? Is it better to try to avoid it completely?
  • I did a 50 mile ride on Sunday and temps were around 6 degrees centigrade which I think is about the same as your 40? It was lovely once we got warmed up but was definitely glad to have my over booties !!
  • When I was younger, my mother used to tell me that being self-conscious about people looking at you was actually thinking that you are important enough for other people to notice you. Ok, so it was a very harsh way to say it but now I'm older than she was at the time, I can understand what she meant! Trust me, no one else…
  • Maybe as you are walking more you are subconsciously eating more as you think you have burned the calories. You say you are eating alright but do you track everything? Walking at a very brisk pace will only burn around 70-80 calories a mile at the most.
