I would think that the ellitical burns more calories because you are also using your arms. When spinning, your arms are just on the handles. I'm no expert, just my thoughts.

It's normal to have that feeling when you do crunches for the first few times. Just stretch out when you have that feeling. Lay on your stomach and straighten your arms and legs straigh out and stretch out to where your arms and legs are lifted a little from the floor.
