Calories expended is calculated based on heart rate and lifting weights doesn't raise your heart rate that much. Unfortunately I have to tell you that you are not burning 173 calories in 15 minutes on an elliptical. I use a Polar heart rate monitor and it consistently shows about 50% of the calories burned that equipment…

since this is a site pretty much devoted to counting calories you may be in the wrong place. I do get your point though

I use a Polar heart rate monitor too 1200-1800 is an intense workout. If your monitor has the own cal feature and you use it your results would be more accurate than if not. One person mentioned maybe you were gaining muscle and losing inches rather than losing weight and that's a good thing to check.

It depends on what you are trying to accomplish beyond losing weight. Exercising at 80% of maximum is a good place to be for improving fitness and calorie burn but if you want to maximize fitness you could consider adding interval training at levels closer to your maximum heart rate and adding weights

I use a Polar heart rate monitor which is personalized for me and calculates the…

Peanut butter on a slice of whole wheat bread could replace the cream cheese and bagel certain wild caught fish are good sources of protein but read up on which ones are safest to eat Tofu is a good source of protein and can be very tasty

you can find many technique videos on youtube. Planks are a better core exercise than sit ups but what you want is a workout that exercises all your core muscles so they stay in balance

It allots 1200 calories as an absolute minimum to avoid "starvation mode"

Much of the equipment that measures calories burned during exercise greatly over estimates the number of calories you are burning. My Polar heart rate monitor is calibrated for me so it is accurate and when I compare its measurements to other equipment (including map my fitness it is usually 1/2 to 2/3 of the total…
