I know this is a touchy subject, but it doesn't have to be. MFP is designed so that exercise calories burned are offset by additional calorie intake. Not all sites do this. MFP does. Doesn't matter if you think eating exercise calories is good or bad, the functionality of this website is designed for calorie intake…

I was wondering about this. The majority of my gay friends are parents. This was not the case 15 years ago.

I was worried the last word was "weiner" in the truncated subject title and had already started tearing up before reading the responses.

I rarely hear the term "queer" being using in a perjorative sense, and for awhile many of my friends indicated they preferred the term. Context, intent, tone - all way more important that an actual word, in my opinion. I debated my fingertips off in the N-word thread about this. I don't like giving any particular word too…

Agree strongly with this. It's so easy to get a minor injury from overuse - especially if you are just starting out.

Honestly, you can get pretty good sushi at grocery stores. I've had good sushi from Costco, believe it or not. I know everyone is worried about the fish. Assuming the fish is fresh, the problem is the rice. Once you refrigerate the rice, it gets hard and crumbly. That's why grocery store sushi will never be as good to me -…

I'm impressed with "hypocorism" - had to look that up. Very cool word. Thank you, bexominglex!

Amphiods! I know this doesn't directly answer your question, but I learned about these products from a friend here (Taso42, who was king before the incident). I purchased one at REI and love it. http://www.amphipod.com/

Interesting. Care to comment in this thread? http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/395377-the-n-word

SkateboardFi, you do not make it easy to debate with you. I think we can probably both learn some things in this discussion. But you are not being consistent with your message. You wrote the following: I disagreed (and still do). I think that's a sweeping statement that gives way too much power to one word. You may…

I agree. But I don't let it bother me any more. It's this weird innate thing that I suspect most people don't even realize they are doing - similar to baby talk around babies or animals. I think the behavior is condescending, but I don't think it's as intentional as is looks.

We are so bothered by words and people's use of them. I call that first world problems. It makes me grateful.

I start the HRM when I start the activity. This means, for a run, I do not count the few minutes of light stretching beforehand, but do count the 5 minutes warm-up walk. I keep the HRM running during the cool-down walk as well as some of the stretching back home - my heart rate is still definitely elevated. I usually turn…

I saw that. It's a reaction many people have when interacting with a kid with special needs. I've seen it so much, I don't cringe any more. But I do see it. Best we can do it model different behavior. Most kids - or their parents/support staff - will let you know if there are any communication issues to be aware of. Unless…

Glad the family is pressing charges. But I hope people aren't completely shocked that this stuff goes on. I think it's pretty rare, but it happens. There are abuses of power in every profession. Sadly, a lot of schools are cutting or underfunding special ed departments and/or using "inclusion" in name only and not…

That is so awesome. Nice work. I love your smile on the second 7/11 pic and the goofy face on the last 10/11 pic. 45 pounds is a huge accomplishment! Do you have pets? Have you picked up a 40-pound bag of dog food? That's a lot of weight.

I don't think it's oversimplification at all. I think you are at the crux of the issue. You don't get to decide whether I call you Victoria or Vicky. You get to decide to listen to it. You get to decide what meaning you want to attach to it. You get to react to me using Vicky. You get to decide how important it is which…

I disagree. No one owns words.

Except that's not exactly true. Even within this thread, a black man stated that some of his white friends use the term. You don't get to say what's cool for all white people (or all black people). You *do* get to say what's cool for you. That's the catch - that it's so serious and strange - all this power given to a word.…

Some people tend to be more pear-shaped, while others are more apple-shaped. Your profile pic indicates you are more potato-shaped. I don't know what your financial situation is, but I strongly suggest getting a good digital scale and if you are exercising, a decent heart rate monitor (HRM). These two tools, combined with…

I like. I'm willing to try the low cal version of most things. If it tastes 90% as good and saves a significant number of calories, fine with me, I'll probably eat the low-cal version. But it has to be pretty close to tasting as good as the full-cal version. I'm not going to miserably chew through something to save a few…

I agree with this. Though I'm more impressed by the use of amalgamate.

It's like a dessert turducken! Are those candy corn on top?

Wow. That is the face of remorse.

I'd be willing to bet if you looked up your friends again and added them, they would be glad to see you back. I don't know why MFP friend deletions are such a big deal. The only time it matters is when I am deleting you while sobbing and/or screaming profanities at the computer. Then it's a big deal. And I click the delete…

I love almost all breakfast cereals (except the super sweet ones). But there can be only one BEST. http://www.mothersnatural.com/ready-to-eat_cereals/rte_peanut_butter_bumpers.aspx No one who has tasted the Bumpers can deny their awesomeness.

Good point. Bullying has always gone on. But I do think teachers are less likely to stop it now. Teachers are becoming less and less involved in calling kids out, holding kids accountable, etc. for fear of disciplinary action against them (losing their job, lawsuit). While it's true that a bully doesn't cause a bully…

How long have you been using MFP? Your diary isn't open to all MFP members, so I can't see what your calorie intake is like. I am not a doctor, or a dietician, or a health care professional. But I can tell you this with certainty: you cannot fail a diet in one day. It is impossible. Diet failures require repeated behavior.…

Damn. You did a better job of making the point I was trying to make, in far fewer words. Even included a Dre reference. Color me impressed (but don't call me colored).

Glad things worked out. For me, I just need to break the frenetic nature of the thoughts. What makes it hard to intelligently analyze a situation is that my brain is spinning in anxiety, often moving too fast to stop and look at a situation rationally. I find that getting my mind briefly on something completed unrelated…
