That's what I've been leaning toward

Yes, that's how I began and then moved on to a progressive, heavy lifting program. I realize that some people may be able to jump right in to heavy lifting, but I truly felt that - for me, I needed a better fitness level and foundation before starting heavy lifting. Resistance training definitely did that. FWIW, I did…

Hmm...I agree with most of the reasons already posted but will re-emphasize what a previous poster mentioned about progress not being clearly visible. These days I am working my tail off both in and out of the gym but aesthetic progress is slow. I've been doing bulk/cut cycles and have had to temporarily set that aside to…

^Exactly this. You're looking for a quick solution to something that takes a certain lifestyle and commitment to achieve. Why not start now with a moderate calorie deficit and exercise (if you want to) and see where you are in three weeks? If nothing else, I'll bet you'll feel alot better about yourself.

I do both but space them out over at least 3+ hours and running always follows lifting. I don't lift on the days I do my long runs.

Thanks, CheriMoose - your explanation made a lot of sense!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that my fast is an 18 hour period (begins 7:30 p.m. and ends around 1:30 p.m. ish next day).
-
I just started IF this week - I'm loosely following the Lean Gains method. Due to my work schedule and family obligations, most of my workouts are later in the day or evenings. However, two days a week my schedule allows me to do what the program suggests - break my fast after my training session. I will admit that it's…

Thank you all for sharing....it's interesting how everyone is different in this regard. I did eliminate my breakfast today but had a very light snack right before lifting (and it was leg day) - I was just fine!!!
-
Oh, I forgot to add: From your post, I assumed you were at a healthy weight when you got pregnant and aren't at risk for gestational diabetes. If that is indeed the case, you will be just fine!!!
-
I've had four healthy pregnancies and with each one went over the recommended weight gain. As a fellow mom, my advice to you is to not try to "reverse the weight gain." That's horrible advice. At this stage in your pregnancy, you're very likely to continue to gain weight - it's inevitable. The last trimester is when you…

You have abs - everyone does, lol!!! Seriously though, you've been given great advice on how to build them up and strip away fat to reveal them. This takes both time and consistency.
-
It's hard to comment on this without knowing your specific goals and statistics. I'm assuming by the title of your post that you are trying to lose weight. If that is the case, your success will be largely dependent upon sustaining a calorie deficit over time. While I agree that ensuring your macros are on target is…

A calorie deficit is the solution to fat loss. Strength training (especially heavy compound lifts) will improve your overall body composition. I've been working out with weights for 1 year + but as of January have been focusing on the 4 compound movements (squat, deadlift, bench, and overhead press) with progressively…

Thanks, CarlydogsMom!!! This makes total sense from an eat to perform perspective and helped affirm the strategy I was leaning more toward to for my cut. Good luck to you on your cut - we can do this!!!

Since I don't have truly reliable data, here is a picture of me from this last weekend. It may give a better idea of where I am body fat % wise.
-
It's bio impedence and I know they're highly inaccurate, but, at the moment, it's all I have access to.

My stats are: female, 38 y/o, 5'8 1/2, 150 lbs

Thank you - I was thinking the same thing
-
As of 3 weeks ago, it was 23 percent according to the hand held device (don't know what it's called).

Unfortunately, unless you choose to work out in the privacy of your own home, you're just going to have to get over the feeling. Believe me, I know exactly how you feel. I run around my neighborhood and workout in the gym. At the gym, I notice people noticing me, lol! I catch their eyes in the mirrors but I just shrug it…

No, I would say that it's normal. I've only been lifting a few months and am trying to recomp although my calories have generally been above my maintenance level (according to the calculators).
-
Yes, I want to complete full marathon this fall.

Thanks again everyone for your responses. I know 25 miles may not seem like a lot (and I agree that it isn't) but in my circle of non-running friends/family/colleagues I get lots of comments about the amount of running I do so I guess I've come to think that I run a lot compared to their non-running lifestyles:) I'm so…
-
Thank you all for your replies!!! It's good to know that the work I've put into lifting won't be wasted away with running. It's very encouraging to hear your experiences of being able to do both activities!!!
-
Great news!!!! This makes me very happy:)
-
This is all very helpful - thank you for the replies!!! Like I said in my original post, I don't tend to drink during a long run so I think I'll be okay relying solely on the water stations on the course:)
