I get comments from my family because I eat a lot of junk... Tacos/burritos from the local roach coach-mobile, assortment of different fast foods, etc. I also like to eat stuff like goat cheese, feta cheese or even shredded cheddar straight out of the container by the spoonful... but this is always done alone, in the…

It's more important to monitor your sodium vs. potassium intake than to just minimize sodium. Milk has a lot of potassium, so the more you drink the more you'll be moving toward the positive side of your sodium/potassium intake.

Do you have a dog in this fight or something? You've posted about fruit sugar in the past and now you are trying to bring up fruit sugar issues by comparing it to the fructose in highly processed foods. Ever stop to think that the concentration of fructose in HFCS and sweetened beverages is different than they are in…

12 reps = more hypertrophy, some power 4-6 reps = more power, some hypertrophy If you're just starting out and are overweight, it hardly matters which you do...just do both. The important thing is to make sure your sessions are intense.

Sometimes it isn't about being overly sensitive or thin-skinned. I see a lot of fights here that seem to be caused by people who feel really strongly about their beliefs in what the best diet is or how much protein, carb, and fat should be consumed, insulin control vs. total calories, etc..etc..etc. These types of…

Fruit is approximately 7% fructose. It would take a LOT of fruit before you started to see the conversion to triglycerides. Also, the good thing about liver glycogen is that it has a satiating effect.

I've always felt that incorporating some circuit-type of training went well with heavy-lifting sessions (not on the same day, of course).

I'm 40, no children and don't plan to have any. My GF has two children...the younger will be off to college next year. After that, the coast will be clear for us to elope. I'm sure having kids would enrich my life in many ways...but so too would the freedom that would come from being childless. But that freedom has…

Our body's fat should not be thought of as a grouping of inert storage cells. Instead, our body's fat should be thought of as an endocrine organ in their own right....and any sort of deposits or withdrawals from our body fat will have a complicated assortment of hormonal repercussions that will have effects all over the…

Add me to the list of late night eaters!

Excellent tips so far. I'd also add... "Eat in moderation. Health markers generally improve as you lose weight"

LOL, bro science at its absolute best... Have you even checked the ingredients for Isopure zero carb?

They are a great convenience item. They also taste fantastic when blended with water, ice cubes and frozen blueberries. I'm currently eating Muscle Milk, but will switch to Monster Milk as soon as I'm done my my current tub.

He generally stayed around or just under 2,000 calories per day. For a person of his size who did all that walking, that is most definitely a caloric deficit. Also, his carb level seemed to fluctuate between 80 - 120 carbs per day, which I think is moderate to low carb....but probably not ketogenic.

That sounds more like a cheat meal/dessert. Was it non-fat ice cream? Refeeds are most effective when minimizing fat intake and should be done throughout the course of a day. A single meal with a higher carb content will not do much in terms of helping normalize your metabolic hormones.

Hehe, thanks for recognizing my screen name. Is it wrong for me to say that I believe that a marriage's success is more dependent on the man than the woman? These are gross generalizations that I am backing up with Zero statistical data, but IMO, men are more likely to cheat, abuse alcohol, and verbally or physically abuse…

It was a pretty reasonable article because it mentioned a lot of the shortcomings and possible confounding variables in making that sort of conclusion. For instance, the article mentions that unhappiness can lead to weight gain... which in these situations would fall under the classic correlation/causation fallacy. The…

Choosing among fruits that have lower GI's seems reasonable. A lot of the silliness regarding fruit and the fear-mongering regarding fructose was started a long time ago by John Parillo. Start a rumor and repeat it often enough and it will take on a life of its own.

You mean the food that was one of the primary drivers in the growth, err I should say explosion, of the human population? I would say that the answer would have to be no. What's inherently bad is the way we sometimes overeat them....especially simple carbs. Simple carbs also have that annoying effect of making you hungry…

I just finished watching Fathead. For the past three years, I've been inadvertently eating a diet that I think the fathead creator would more or less approve. I didn't eat fast food everyday, but I don't think that was the point that the creator was trying to make. Instead, I believe he was trying to present evidence…

Steel cut oats plus a hard boiled egg used to be my staple breakfast....but I've been getting lazy. I gotta get back into that groove!

Congratulations!

Not sure what you mean by inherent calorie deficits, but there is some evidence to suggest that low carb, especially high protein, has a very potent satiating effect and reduces the tendency to overeat and underestimate calories consumed. That is part of the reason why Paleo/Primal folks are able to maintain lower calorie…

Everyday I worry when my GF will realize she's too hot for me. Until then, I'm going to train like there is no tomorrow!

I've never seen Fathead, but I'm glad to hear that the point on total calories was made.

The ways I deal with hunger on a planned low-calorie day is to eat a lot of foods like broccoli & spinach, stay busy (watching TV is asking for trouble!), and possibly intermittent fasting.

You are getting WAY off-topic. The OP wanted to know about satiating foods and some of us responded with suggesting protein. Let's review what happened after that. You responded with "see you in dialysis" Then I posted two studies which prove that consuming a high level of protein does not cause dialysis or kidney damage.…
