It's not an either/or type of scenario. They are both important.

It'll take about a week for your body to adjust.

rh009, Better wear your flame suit if you're gonna bring up the link between saturated fats and increased cholesterol. :) Ah, the joys of dealing with people who put their trust in fringe internet groups... Sat fat's effect on your body is actually a very complicated process and is also highly context dependent. However,…

It provides a convenient way to increase your daily protein. I used to drink MM but have since moved on to Monster Milk. The protein/total calories ratio for Monster was a bit more to my liking. They both taste great when mixed with water....even better when blended with water, ice cubes and frozen blueberries.

It is NOT a huge waste to consume a lot of protein at once. Remember, protein is used for more than just muscle synthesis. There is a difference between your body's ability to absorb more protein per meal vs. the limits to which there would be no further increases in muscle protein synthesis. Just because there isn't an…

Over 200 grams for me (1.5 grams for each pound of LBM).

Non-fat cottage cheese isn't fattening. It's sodium content might make you retain a little bit of water, but that is different from being fat. Non-fat cottage cheese is a terrific source of protein.

What analogy are you talking about? I didn't make any analogy that I'm aware of.... All I said is that there is nothing wrong with daily weighings. Uhm, am I the only one who notices this inherent contradiction? Your saying that your position comes from the perspective of setting up a balanced, healthy eating plan and…

Monster Milk, because of the taste and I seem to digest it the best. ON Doub Rich Choc is a close second for me...

Metabolic slow-down is not an all-or-nothing thing. Any time you diet or maintain a caloric deficit, your body will always fight back to some degree. But like the previous poster mentioned, as long as 2 lbs per week isn't a large caloric deficit, you shouldn't notice much metabolic slow-down. As an example, if your daily…

Out of the 20 habits mentioned, I think the only one I agree or actually notice via casual observation is the one where skinny people chew their food thoroughly. I have a few skinny friends and I always notice how their the last ones to finish their meals. They seem to actually struggle to get all the food down and almost…

Weighing yourself daily is "EXACTLY" the same thing as eating chocolate every day?  OK.... As long as you weigh yourself at the same part of the day, there is nothing wrong with doing it daily. There is no balancing out over the course of the week as you describe it because these weight fluctuations that you…

Thanks for posting that. Pretty good stuff! I especially liked his part on fruit, post-workout protein shakes and starch.

This would all depend on the quality of your eating plan. Spend some time researching how much protein, carb and fat you should eat and create a daily menu that would reflect those determinations.

Just don't follow the GFH (get fu@kin huge) strategy when lifting weights... In other words, your diet will dictate whether you will bulk into something large or just tone up and lose fat while minimizing muscle loss. I'm 100% sure Eason goes heavy on a regular basis and she doesn't seem to look too bulky....

Do you ever watch any movies?

Dollar for dollar, they are the cheapest source of protein available. Also, I wouldn't exactly consider a highly processed, sodium filled food like 'ham' or a ham sandwich to be a better source of protein than a protein shake. Also, studies have shown that whey / casein are highly digestible proteins.... Just because a…

Resistance is futile, prepare to be assimilated. Haha, just kidding.. I'm sure you meant synthesize.

It's been a while since I read his book too, but Taubes explicitly states that the obese eat the same amount of calories as the non-obese....and this is based on a relatively old study using data based on self-reporting. He ignores subsequent studies that repeatedly demonstrate how obese people consistenly underreport…

Actually, a lot of unprocessed, high protein foods have extremely favorable sodium/potassium ratios. And isn't that the key? Not just sodium, but the sodium potassium balance? Unprocessed cuts of beef, fish, chicken, pork, greek yogurt, milk are all loaded with potassium. Supplement those unprocessed, high protein items…

96% lean beef patties from Trader Joes!

I normally do Lyle McDonald's specialization routine and target various areas for about a month at a time. But I'm doing his RFL program now and so I do full body tension workouts 2-3 times a week, zero cardio. I started it yesterday and dropped 4 pounds of water weight, lol!

Leonidas was arrogant and self-confident. That's what made him a great king. This is Madness? No, this is Sparta!

siabevis, Awesome work!! I applaud you on the physique you've accomplished. I'm seriously appalled that some people here would have the gall to cut you down. Can jealousy be any more transparent? Ignore those types of comments as there really is no reasoning with people like that. Congratulations and keep up the great work.

As Ali G would say,.... "Respect!"

Dealing with the public on an individual by individual basis is tough. I worked at a hotel front desk when I was in college. Everyday I would run into at least one irrational person who had no control over their emotions. It's sad really... it must really suck to live life where you lose control so easily.

The topic of this thread is chocolate milk, not regular milk. CM contains a good amount of sucrose/fructose as well as lactose. Sure, the 80/20 split between casein/whey may be slow absorbing, but the sugar content (albeit slowed down a bit by the protein mix) is not slow absorbing. In terms of what a recovery drink does…

Well that would be a different argument or point that you're making. I don't think anyone here thinks that excess calories will not eventually lead to weight gain. We have to eat either protein, carbs or fats... why make protein the culprit when out of the three macronutrients, it is the most difficult to convert to fat?…

A heck of a lot more than 30! Protein takes a long time to digest and so your body will be absorbing AA's from a protein heavy-meal for several hours.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20071648 RESULTS: During 5-23 y of follow-up of 347,747 subjects, 11,006 developed CHD or stroke. Intake of saturated fat was not associated with an increased risk of CHD, stroke, or CVD. The pooled relative risk estimates that compared extreme quantiles of saturated fat intake were 1.07…
