Sometimes just getting something on my stomach gives me energy. Outside of that, does it have a high dose of B vitamins or caffine?0 -
I don't think it tastes too great. I would personally rather use nesquick and protein powder in milk or a milk alternative.0
-
It's got good protein, but is high in cals and fat.
There are better things out there for energy.
More for weight gain ans building muscle.0 -
My daughter is an Olympic weightlifter and this is what she uses she loves it She trains twice a day in 3 hr intervals for 5 days and one 3-4 hour day. With Sundays If it keeps her going it will be good for you.0

I love the taste and enjoyed it on the rare occasion when I was on the road traveling, but gave it up once I started eating clean.0

It's a type of protein supplement. It's more calorie dense than most of the whey proteins that I've seen. This doesn't make it good or bad, but since you are presumably losing weight I would lean towards one or both of the following:
1) Get your protein from food sources
and/or
2) Choose a protein with lower calories.
As far as energy, it's a food source. If you are having energy problems it could be from a number of causes.0 -
My trainer suggested I drink it mid-morning along with some almonds or other healthy snack of choice. The one drawback that I've found is that I think it tastes downright nasty:)0
-
I saw all the proteins in it thats why I was looking at it, and at the store on the bottles it says sustainable energy on it...I know its not an energy drink directly.0
-
i don't like it at all.... way too many ingredients and it doesn't taste good (imo)....0

I know what my energy problem is...drinking monsters lol...on my off days I'm fine...but if I know i'm going to workout...I don't hesitate to buy one...0 -

They also have protein oats but they're like $25 for 6 cups!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any recommended protein shakes?0

First of all I wouldn't be too concerned about whether you get your protein from a shake or a turkey, or whether or not you chug it right before your workout. You should focus primarily on your end of day targets for calories and macronutrients.
That being said, if you are looking for whey protein, I hear great things about Optiumum Nutrition brand. I currently use EAS because it's inexpensive and about 120kcal for 24g.
Some people enjoy coffee before a workout, for what it's worth.0 -

Honestly...I don't know anything about whey or creatine or any of that stuff I see on here lol...if its not an absolute must have...I don't need it...It'd just be nice to find something to boost fat loss!0 -
I wouldn't look for shortcuts. Eat at a moderate deficit, exercise, and be patient. Good things will happen. Edit: and congrats on your progress so far!0

Thanks! Yeah I haven't taken any short cuts yet! After I had mentioned I lost 10 lbs in 6 1/2 weeks, someone then had to brag to me they last 30 in 6 1/2 weeks...I was like what? That just seemed way unhealthy!0 -
Muscle Milk is fine for adding protein to your diet in a convenient way. It works well as a post workout drink to begin the recovery process.
That being said, it isn't any better than buying a whey protein powder and mixing it with something like almond milk and peanut butter. Some would argue making your own is better.
But if you want to use protein shakes as tool in your training/eating strategy and don't always have access to an icebox or time to make your own, they are certainly useful.0 -
Recipe
1/2 carton chocolate muscle milk
1 banana
1/2 cup Greek yogurt or sweetened almond milk (just tried that today)
Handful of ice
All in the blender til smooth
Delicious
I don't particularly care for it straight out of carton, bu this shake is killer:)
I drink this for lunch after morning workout0 -
I drink the Light variety for my post workout (Insanity) drink. I think it tastes fine. On the weekends I blend it with a banana and some peanut butter. That makes it awesome.0

It provides a convenient way to increase your daily protein.
I used to drink MM but have since moved on to Monster Milk. The protein/total calories ratio for Monster was a bit more to my liking. They both taste great when mixed with water....even better when blended with water, ice cubes and frozen blueberries.0 -
I drink the musclemilk 100% whey (powder from costco). It's disgusting. I loathe it. However, it's reasonably priced, I'm amazingly lazy when it comes to food preparation, it has a decent amount of protein per serving, and I'm all about convenience.
. So despite the fact that I hate it, I drink 3 shakes a day and just try not to breath while I'm drinking it. It's really the same philosophy I use for drinking alcohol. Except I don't have 3 drinks a day. If only.0 -

Why would you give up a protein drink when eating clean?0 -

A valid question.
1). I have 6 lbs of it and I refuse to waste it.
2) Did I explain that I have 6 lbs of it and I refuse to waste it?
I suspect that when I reach the bottom, I won't be buying another bag0 -
I use the Muscle Milk Light after a workout. Doesn't do anything for my energy, but it helps me reach my protein.0
-
It's suspected that it contains some heavy metals. If you have it, use it up. No problem. But if you have the opportunity t use something else, then switch.
I used a bag of that whey protein from costco also.but switched to the Optimium Whey after that0 -
Avoid muscle milk its honestly one of the more garbage protein supplements on the market. Typically ones that are over-advertised always are. You can determine the percentage of protein in a specific protein supplement brand by dividing the grams or protein per serving by the grams in a serving. Or...
Grams of protein per serving / grams in individual serving.
So if one scoop has 30 grams and theres 24 grams or protein per serving it would look like this (24/30) and that gives you the percentage of the supplement thats actually made up of protein. The rest is just carbs/fats/fillers.0
