Im just wondering what everyones prefrence on protien is. I try to stick to high protien low carb-ish. I was wondering how many grams you have a day. I try to stick to 65-100.

  • only 75 right now. Increasing it week by week to get to 120g (my body weight)

    Over 200 grams for me (1.5 grams for each pound of LBM).

    I aim to eat at least my body weight (in kg) in grams of protein.

    I believe much of it depends on your level of activity. If you are working out/running/excerising daily, then you probably could stand to go higher then even 100g. I typically eat about 150-180g a day, but then again I traditionally run about 5 miles and do quite a bit of movement during the day. I have never been someone who tried to limit my protein intake, so going higher isn't going to hurt you.

    I changed my settings to 45%protein, 25% carb, 30% fat --- so I try to get 150g protein a day --- usually end up between 120-150.

    I don't make a special effort to eat a certain amount of protein each day. I pretty much just try to eat a variety of healthy foods. I ran a report and the average for the past 30 days was 76 g, The low was 35 and the high was 110.

    OMG. where are you guys getting all your protein from. Im a vegetarian and i have such a hard time getting protein in unless i shove my self with beans. :sad:

    If you've got the calories to spare, then I would recommend protein drinks and shots. I probably get about 75g a day just from two drinks (they are about 240calories per drink)

    There are tons of protein powders out there.... if you have a GNC or Vitamin Shoppe --- go read some labels.
    I prefer whey protein isolate ---- but I have no idea if that counts as vegetarian or not since I'm a carnivore :)

    Some tips:
    READ THE LABEL -- see if it fits what you're looking for
    No need to drink more than 30g protein in one sitting -- so if they say 2scoops = 52g -- only use 1 scoop.
    Avoid whey concentrate

    Most protein powders taste like crap mixed wtih just water -- which is why so many peop;le think they are gross.
    Try mixing them with something you like --- if you prefer chocolate protein or that type -- try mixing with part water and the rest almond milk, soy milk, cold coffee, cold tea. If you prefer fruity protein -- try it with crystal light, mio or diet v8 splash, or even powerade zero --- it doesn't have to be just water. I add a lot of torani sf syrups or sf coffee creamer to mine too for flavor.

    My favorte is chocolate protein mixed with cold coffee, almond milk and pumpkin pie spice...better than starbucks.

    That depends on your daily need for protein. The amount of protein you need is entirely relative. If you're trying to gain muscle mass, the more the better (as long as you're working out enough to justify it). I take 4 scoops a day on top of a protein bar or 2 and all my normal foods. I'm upwards of 225-250 grams of protein a day.

    No it doesn't.... I said not to drink more than 30g in ONE SITTING --- I said nothing about getting 200+g a day.
    Nothing wrong with 4 scoops a day if they are spread out --- but it's a huge waste to do them all at once as our body can't process that much at once..

    Thinking that chugging down a 60g shake over a 30g shake is better is just a misconception to get you to spend more money on protein powder.

    It is NOT a huge waste to consume a lot of protein at once. Remember, protein is used for more than just muscle synthesis.

    There is a difference between your body's ability to absorb more protein per meal vs. the limits to which there would be no further increases in muscle protein synthesis. Just because there isn't an increase in muscle synthesis beyond the 30 or 40 gram dose of protein does NOT mean the remaining protein is wasted.

    Protein is also used as energy for the body. And for someone who wants to maximize fat loss while minimizing muscle loss, getting a large portion of your calories from protein helps facilitate that process.

    A large beefsteak with say, 120+ grams of protein takes upwards of 12 hours for the body to fully digest. Are you saying that out of that entire beefsteak, only 30 grams of protein would be absorbed by your body over the course of digestion which takes excruciating long? Of course not!

    I seriously wish this myth would just die.

    And if you want to look at it from the perspective of protein powder companies trying to make money, what better way to get people to use their product than to perpetuate that ridiculous myth so that people will down their 25-30 gram protein shake every 3 hours?

    There are many myths out there about protein intake as well as all your other macronutrients. Please don't fall victim to thinking you must keep protein ridiculously high when dieting and carbs/fats low. A good measure is to set your protein right around your bodyweight, if you have muscle building goals in mind possibly a little higher. Out of personal preference I leave mine quite higher than needed but thats just me. Then as for fats this is just a rough estimate but I like to set them at about 30% of my overall body weight (again my personal preference) and then fill the rest of my remaining calories in with carbs. I am a firm believer in the "a carb is a carb" theory but to an extent. I don't want to be quoted as saying 40g of carbs from coca cola is the same as 40g from oats but don't think you can eat nothing but brown rice, sweet potatoes and oats for carbs either. Theres my little rant on macronutrient intake for today haha ;)
