What a dilemma when you consider the fact that whey isolates are virtually lactose free... BTW, a previous poster mentioned that "Mark" drinks it in the mornings. Who is Mark? Mark Sisson?

I've had the exact same experience. In fact, during the dream, I also wait for the inevitable nausea and light-headedness that comes from having a puff after a long absence and it never comes. Then I wake up to feelings of gladness that I didn't smoke and also realize why I didn't feel the nicotine tightening up my…

Gary Taubes: 1. Pick your hypothesis so a book can be written. 2. Cherry pick data to support hypothesis. 3. Ignore OVERWHELMING evidence that contradict hypothesis. 4. Receive money from book proceeds.

Well, the anabolic and catabolic phases you mention aren't quite as simple as that since fat also plays a large factor in energy storage and metabolism. But your original point stands... carbs from whole grains, fruits, and vegetables should not be avoided. Also, it's actually glucose that feeds the brain, which is most…

Soon you will learn to 'enjoy' your DOMS (or is it just me?). They will not be nearly as intense though because your body will have adapted. Also, up to a certain point, there is an inverse relationship between DOMS and the frequency with which you work a particular muscle. In my particular instance, if I work a muscle 2-3…

Yes, I agree. Good analogy, as I wasn't so sure about all the 'so much better for you than regular oats' responses. Steel cuts have an amazing texture, taste great, but both types of oats are very good for you. BTW, your avatar makes me want to hit the links!

Not saying wheat is good or bad, but if you want to stick to the 'SCIENCE' of whether or not wheat is bad, your first step might be to rely on some sources other than the Fathead website.

Porforr, what a fun thread! You linked the photo fine, except you need to use lowercase img tags. But now it appears you have moved your photo...

Are those your photos? If so, then fantastic captures!!

Make sure you are also getting enough protein. As you get thinner, your bodyfat will get more and more stubborn. Lots of clean, lean protein, lots of leafy green veggies, resistance training, and moderate cardio are all prerequisites to turning a skinny-fat bod into a slim, hard one.

If you completely cut out all meats in your diet and decide to go with a strict vegetarian diet (vegan), then you might have to make a conscious effort to get enough Vtamin B12. I don't like taking vitamins, so my suggestion would be to drink fortified soymilk. A very well balanced vegetarian eating plan will be rich in…

Over time, large deficits caused by lots of cardio can lead to spotty results. This is why we ocassionaly see a post where someone says, "hey, I went on vacation and ate like crap, but when I stepped on the scale, I lost 2 pounds!". Well, that person was probably eating and exercising at a deficit for quite some time prior…

Interesting. Back when I was in high school (a LONG time ago!), I remember the food being pretty crappy. Pizza, ham and cheese between two hamburger patties, wierd concoctions that I can't even name, etc...all of it felt very processed and just not healthy in general. But in two and a half decades (I just dated myself),…

What is the point of creating all these hypothetical scenarios that will never happen? Cut out half the patty and replace them with some french fries? OK, whatever...yeah, I acknowledge that would suck big time as a diet, and yes, your health markers may get worse. But what exactly is your point then? You're getting away…

Well, he DID eat fast food all the time, and he ate plenty of refined, starchy carbs during the time too. He also tracked calories on a daily basis, did exercises and maintained a rather significant daily calorie deficit. To put his deficit into perspective, I'm a fairly small person (151 lbs) and only exercise 3-4 times a…

Just curious, but what does the Paleo diet have to do with eating fast food all the time? Would Sisson advocate the consumption of fast food on a daily basis? IMO, what this study showed was that regardless of your diet, health markers will almost always improve when your weight goes down through a calorie deficit combined…

Wow, I never said any of those things you mention above, but thanks for the amusing strawman arguments. Must be sad to get irritated so easily. Just reread what I posted and see if any of what I said applies to your red-eyed, rage induced rant. Did I ever use the word 'need'? No, you just read one little sentence I wrote…

I'm well below 60 bpms too, but I USED to suffer from tachycardia. Had to take beta-blocker medication for a while, but I didn't like the way it was making me feel. So I slowly weaned myself off it and did cardio on a daily basis. Eventually my resting pulse went back to normal. I was very worried about what could happen,…

Base your diet on consuming a crap load of leafy veggies and a crap-load of cooked cruciferous veggies on a daily basis. Eat at least 4 servings of fruit, and a moderate amount of starchy carbs, nuts, seeds, beans, avocadoes, etc. Doesn't get any healthier than that. If you are active or do resistance training, supplement…

A properly set up vegan eating plan will be extremely nutrient dense and will have plenty of iron. The only thing to really be a little worried about is B12 & Vitamin D, which can easily be taken care of by drinking fortified soymilk and spending some time outdoors.

Numbers 1, 2, & 3 are totally wrong and indicate a basic misunderstanding of the physiology behind fat gain/loss. Actually, the entire list is bogus because as previously mentioned, you cannot strategically accelerate fat loss in one part of the body relative to the rest of the body.
-
A properly set up diet that is rich in micro-nutrients and balanced from a macronutrient perspective would be so filling that diet pills and appetite suppressants would not be necessary. porffor, my digestion also suffers when taking vitamins.

BCatt, we've had our differences, but I must tell you... there is no use arguing with people who have bought into the 'science' of certain fringe internet groups. I admire your consistency though...

Paleo diet has it flaws, but it's an improvement over what the average American eats....which is a lot of garbage. I think what the paleo diet teaches is that one should try to eat real foods instead of packaged, processed junk. It's a good starting point for someone who feels as if some guidance is in order. However, once…

Yes, all it takes is a simple conversation starter and let the conversation build on its own. Don't put any pressure on yourself. Believe me when I say that guys will be flattered and the pressure to maintain a good dialogue will be on them...not you.

Depending on how fast you lost your 40 pounds, it's normal to experience a little bit of what you are going through. Sometimes your skin isn't able to adjust at the rate you lost weight. Since you are young, I'm willing to bet that you eventually your skin will tighten up in that area. Just keep doing your cardio and…
