  • Hi there, I have just re-joined MFP! I'm 56. Lost weight (15 pounds, on a 4 foot 11 frame) with MFP very slowly about 3 years ago, kept it off for a good while but then, oh dear. Slowly put it all back on. Just back from holiday and now having to buy a size up in clothes and I have had enough!! Am rubbish with diets but I…
  • Wait, you are so miserable about missing out on nice food that you're thinking of switching to a liquid meal replacement??? How would that even work? You like food! Sounds like punishment, and wouldn't solve the problem. The really good thing about calorie logging is you work out where to compromise. For example, I've…
  • Well, in terms of this post, I think the comparison's relevant. The OP (fairly similar height and weight target) exercises like mad, doesn't eat her exercise calories back, and finds it very hard to stick to 1200 a day. I don't know everything about her situation, but there's a good possibility that she's yo-yo-ing because…
  • PS I am 4'11" and 52 years old. Calories are set to 1450 a day, but I average 1550. Losing= still possible when teeny and older.
  • Don't even try to diet at 1200. It's very hard and you'll be miserable. Read a couple of the sticky posts, and switch up to about 1500 a day, carefully counted (there are more scientific ways of working it out but it's a good start.) Start reading your own food log to workI out where you're squandering calories on stuff…
  • I think your logging is off. You have butter portions estimated at 36 cals.10 grams of butter is 110 - it's not much to look at. If you are off with logging you could easily be taking in 300-500 more than you think. I really recommend weighing everything. I just noticed your height - you did really well to lose so much in…
  • You don't need to take pills or starve yourself, just learn about calories, set a reasonable calorie target, and start logging everything you eat. I'm the same height as you and I started at 9 stone 5. I'm now 8 stone 11, which is 8 lb in 3 months. Am aiming to lose another 7 pounds. Yes it's slow, and it doesn't sound all…
  • I think your logging is most likely off - some of those numbers look a bit hopeful. The counts for the fennel pasta dish look very low for example, unless it's a ready meal. I've just experienced this myself - totally stopped losing and really it's down to some relaxed counting.
  • 1300 sounds too low for me if you want to lose over the long term. I am 4 11 and 124 lb, and set my calories to 1450 after I found 1200 virtually impossible to stick to. Have lost about 1 lb a week, with little exercise, and usually going slightly over that. Things slowed this week but I think that was my weekend wine…
  • I'm 4'11 and eat at TDEE - 20%. I eat about 1500 calories a day (go over slightly at the weekend) and don't do much exercise. I've been doing absolutely fine up till now, losing just under a pound a week. but things have slowed in the past week. (Maybe because I've been eating more like 1600-1700...) I haven't really felt…
  • You can do it! It took 3-4 weeks for me to start losing anything, but I have now lost 7 pounds. Am 5 foot nothing, 52 and eating about 1500 calories a day; it's taken patience, persistence and some very boring logging. Good logging makes a difference - just start weighing stuff and you'll be amazed at what's really going…
  • Got the messages yesterday on my Android app. I was logging some Friday pizza and wine and it started grumbling about cholesterol. It got very excited about fresh pineapple, then doubtful about the sugar levels, then extremely judgmental about t the avocado salad, then outright hostile about the pizza. I don't like it,…

  • Logging food daily was a turning point for me - that and reading the various links posted in this discussion. I weigh everything, record everything and am very slowly losing weight. I'm not hungry and it feels pretty sustainable. But it is very slow and it took me 3-4 weeks before I started to see any results whatsoever. I…
  • I weight every day before breakfast, and enter it into the Libra app. I now have a lovely graph with a trend line that shows roughly how quickly I might reach my next goal or mini-goal. In the past, I never ever weighed myself, and I find that doing it daily is actually easier. I'm getting to understand how weight…
  • Because you're British and that's what you grew up on? 1 stone = 14 lb
  • Hi, am I right in thinking you've just started? Been logging for just a week or two? Sounds like you are doing amazingly well right now but if you eat this little it probably won't be sustainable in the long term. I'm feeling hungry just reading your food diary. You can afford to bump up calories and eat more normally,…
  • I am 4:11 and been on mfp for 5 weeks. I think the most difficult part is that the gap between calories to lose and calories to maintain is quite small. I found 1200 calories totally unsustainable, but read all the advice on here and switched to 1450 which is my TDEE minus 20%. Over the week I probably average 1550…
