I do low carbs,at the moment I'm trying to keep net carbs under 30 but may start to up it to a maximum of 50. I think i am still struggling to find the right level that still lets me lose weight but doesn't bring the carb cravings back. I have an under active thyroid and am currently having blood tests evey 6 to 8 weeks to…

I've been back on low carb for 10 days and today I got halfway through my lunch and didn't want the rest, so I put it back in the fridge. The cravings have gone and I feel less likely to snack as I am not hungry. It's amazing to feel back in control.

Thanks for the replies...very interesting and a bit more reading is required. Generally I keep my carbs below 50 and have around 1700 calories per .day I did wonder if I had a vitamin d and calcium deficiency again. I also read somewhere that low selenium levels also effect the bodys ability to use thyroid hormones. I have…

Hi, I'm Maxine, I've done LC on and off for the past few years, it seems to be the only thing that works for me. I have tried all the others but LC is the only one that I don't seem to get carb cravings. When I am losing I try to keep around 25 a day but I just need to work out how to do it to maintain. Not worked that out…

not always, the carb content on an american product will have the fiber in it so you need to deduct, but an British product is just carbs. Either way if you are doing low carb the difference is not much. I subtract the fiber from the carb everytime. I learned a while ago not to get too hung up on the exact details. It will…

depends where you live as to how food is labeled, unfortunately. Some countries show carbs including fibre (US entries), while others will show carbs excluding fibre (UK, Europe, Australia, NZ). Its not always easy to see from food data base entries on MFP what country they are from. As long as you are consistant and do…

I would book an appointment at your nearest citizen advice bureau, they give free advice

If I buy something in a larger pack, I weigh it out into smaller bags and then put them out of the way where I can't see them. If I want one I just take 1 bag. With chocolate I break it up into smaller pieces and stick it in the freezer. It lasts longer and it might mean you only need a smaller amount. It does depend on…

Hi my name is Maxine, I am 44 years old (just) and am back trying to lose weight after a stressful year, family illness and new job. I'm very good at pretending to myself that I am on a diet but whilst trying to diet, over the course of the last 8 months have managed to gain 10lbs. This was doing weight watchers and I was…

you need to do lots of research before you opt for surgery. All surgery does is help you lose the excess weight but it's up to you to keep it of by healthy eating and exercise. It is possible to regain all the weight but I am 6 years post op and have managed to maintain a 174lb weight loss. It's a struggle everyday, I have…

thanks for all your replies, they have been very helpful. I might sound like I binge (sometimes it feels like I do) but we are not talking excessive volume here, I mean having a few bad days. I have lost over 12 stone and managed to keep it off for the last 4 years but the odd 7 or 8 lbs keeps coming back, so I cut back…

sounds like you are in the same boat as me......I'm back for the second time after going back up to 97kg. I have changed my goal to 1lb a week. This means I can have around 1600 cals a day. I tried 1200 but I felt like I was starving myself. Anyway, keep doing a diary and logging on. You get so much support and motivation.…

I'm looking for support too, only on day 4 but am really going to try this time to keep logging on every day. I could so with some new recipies that I can get the whole family eating.

I joined the web site earlier on in the year but fell off the wagon and lost my way. I have been overweight most of my life but gained over 100lb when I met my husband. I had a gastric bypass on 6th Feb 2007, at my heaviest I weighed 373.5lbs, I managed to get down to 194 but have regained a bit and now weigh 211lbs. I am…

I think that as you are so close to your goal, and don't really have any more to lose, it might be a case of this is where my body needs to be. It's not just about getting down to your goal it's about being able to stay there without too much effort. everyone is different, so whats right for one wont be right for someone…

Hi My name is Maxine and I had a gastric bypass 5 years ago. I have lost 13stone (182lbs) and have managed to keep it off but have stopped short of that elusive 25 BMI. I would love to lose another 20lbs so I am taking the bull by the horns and really going to try and eat a balance diet that I can maintain. I have planned…

Hi, I too am back today, so I so know where you are coming from. I haven't put all the weight back on, only about 2 kgs so I am happy about that. You did really well to get down to 123, I am sure you can get there again, you sound really motivated. This time I am going to try and take it slow. I have planned my meals and…
