  • Keep in mind the number MFP gives you is net calories. Not total calories no matter what you are doing. Make sure you chose the correct activity level to begin with. Then if you exercise you can actually eat those calories back so you would be eating more than 1200 calories. But your net calories would be 1200.
  • One thing that took me a few weeks to understand is how MFP works. When you plug in you activity level, how much you want to lose per week, body info, etc it gives you a number that is a net calorie goal, not total calories you should eat per se. So the deficit you need each day to lose your weekly total is already built…
  • I started at 241lbs and didn't say anything to anyone at work about my efforts to see when someone would comment. It was right at the 30lb mark. Then once the first person asked me about it I had several others ask later that day. I lost that in about 2 months and I think once they knew I was actually working on diet and…
  • I do know my body fat %, sort of. I have a Withings scale that measures it as well as a hand held unit that is the same as my gym uses for the monthly measurements. They are about 4% different so I just look for a downward trend on each. Guess they are just rough estimates anyway. I don't think BMI is very useful, it's…
  • Good topic. I'm interested in the replies as well. End of March when I started I could barely run 1/4 mile. Now I've done as much as 4 on the treadmill @ 12mpm. I'm working on taking it outside and have signed up for a 10K on Oct 1st. That distance still seems very crazy to me since I have never been a runner. Would be…
  • I've tried several brands and Chobani is my favorite as well.
  • Congratulations!!! It is interesting how just being in better shape can translate into being able to jog longer/faster without really practicing it. When I started the end of March I could barely run 1/4 mile at 4.5mph. So I was just doing a lot of walking on the treadmill. Then one day I just tried a mile at 5mph and I…
  • I'm interesting in others opinions as well. I've looked at them a few times now but they sure are expensive.
  • Big goal is to break 200 by the end of the month. I've been hanging around 208-210 for the last couple weeks it seems so I may not make it. But I'm going to try!!!
  • My wife and I just started working with a personal trainer. He had us do a rope pressdown for this area. It was a v shaped rope upside down and attached to the machine. Then we pulled down on it. It was hard and made me realize I am weak!
  • I debated this issue as well. My initial intention was once a week. But I just couldn't wait that long cause I would wonder if I had lost anything. So then I started weighing myself on random days and at random times. Of course I saw some big swings and would sort of lose motivation when I would be up, sometimes several…
  • Could you expand on how you changed your settings/goals. I'm curious how it is different vs MFP numbers. Thanks!
  • My HRM is about 1/3 less than what MFP would show.
  • I mean after jogging 1 1/2 miles I felt like I could do another lap! :) ONE reason I wanted to lose weight is for scuba diving. I want to be more of a sinker and less of a floater.
  • I love it. I get unsweetened vanilla and use it for my cereal in the morning. Only 40 calories/cup. I like the taste and that it is a bit thicker than skim milk.
  • I've used that site to get calorie totals and I agree it gives them as total calories. I think it factors in eating back exercise calories so to speak as you have the choices of how much you exercise when setting up your profile there.
  • I don't crave sweets but I crave grease. I love a burger and fries. In the 6 weeks since I started I have had a burger and fries 3x, but I kept it within my calories for the day. A couple times I only ate half the burger at once for instance. I loved last week. New burger place opens up so I have to try it. I get a 1/3lb…
  • I like the Fit and Active Orange Sorbet bar. They are 110 calories each but nice and thick so it makes me happy to have one for dessert from time to time. :)
  • I just saw those in a Target ad one minute ago! Have never heard of them before I saw the ad. I'm curious what others think as well. I don't mind drinking water but I really like to have some flavor in it.
  • I lost 5lbs a week the first two weeks and just hit 20 after 5 weeks so the last 3 weeks avg is 3.3lbs. I still have 50lbs to reach my goal so I had(have) a lot to loose.
  • I've had eczema my whole life. My eyelids do the same thing and I'm convinced it is the eczema because just regular lotion doesn't help. I just put OTC hydrocortisone on them when I'm done and try and keep it out of my eyeballs! I'm also having an issue where my HRM strap goes around my chest as I'm breaking out there as…
  • Sodium is my problem area. I'm not adding it to anything. But I am always around 2500 because it seems to be an added ingredient in everything that isn't a fruit or vegetable. I need to find some no salt added items!
  • I lost five lbs the 1st week so that got me motivated to keep going. I really wasn't as hungry as I thought I would be. We have a treadmill that I never really used but I was on it and huffing and puffing and spit was flying and I was glad my wife was at work. lol Today is the start of my 5th week and I have been doing…
  • I just got it last week. All you need is some hand weights and a mat if you think your floor is too hard. You don't need very much room at all. Jumping jacks probably needs to most space. I was very sore after I did it. I think the warm up is very quick so I'm going to maybe stretch more or get on our treadmill for a few…
  • I'm hoping to start next week! I did it for the first time on Thur and I am sore on top of sore! So I'm going to wait until next week to actually "start". I think I need to warm up a lot more then what is on the DVD to begin with. So that doesn't answer your question but I just wanted to sympathize with your aching! :)
  • The auto calories are always a lot higher than what my HRM shows. So your observation seems correct!
  • just weighed out 2oz of turkey for my sandwich! We have a scale in the kitchen upstairs and also one downstairs where we have a fridge and wet bar. I also use a measuring cup for things. I think it really helps to get the portion size right.
  • I've been changing mine every time I weigh in and the scale goes down. My wife didn't think to adjust her's. She lost maybe 16-17 lbs. and so I adjusted it without her knowing one day. Wanted to see if she would notice. Couple days later she wanted me to look at her HRM thinking it wasn't working because she had to…

  • Try more fiber. I'm eating a lot less (calories wise) but going a lot more! I've been eating very high fiber cereal most mornings.
