  • That drastic of a cut might tend to make one a little grumpy. Sounds normal enough to me.
  • Right on track. I saw an interesting business on my run today. Can this really mean what I think it means? 01/01/2015 - 5.02 Miles - Cumulative 5.02 Miles 01/04/2015 - 6.53 Miles - Cumulative 11.55 Miles 01/06/2015 - 6.70 Miles - Cumulative 18.25 Miles 01/08/2015 - 4.50 Miles - Cumulative 22.75 Miles (Brrrrr...it was…
  • I once had to square off with a large dog that I thought was going to attack, but luckily it changed its mind at the last minute. After that, I went out and bought a key-chain sized can of mace. I run with that in one hand at all times now days. Fortunately, I haven't had to use it yet. I can't express how PO'd I get at…
  • I ran a loop around the airport today. I got lucky and was able to see a V-22 Osprey do a vertical takeoff. It was pretty amazing. 01/01/2015 - 5.02 Miles - Cumulative 5.02 Miles 01/04/2015 - 6.53 Miles - Cumulative 11.55 Miles 01/06/2015 - 6.70 Miles - Cumulative 18.25 Miles 01/08/2015 - 4.50 Miles - Cumulative 22.75…
  • It as glorious wonderful place decorated with pizza and tootsie rolls. It even has a charming little siren that sounds on occasion just to remind you how wonderful it is. And it's full of people genuinely trying to take their lives back. That matters. The business model and available snacks don't change that.
  • @grimmeanor: I guess there is a reason the lines at the portapotties are always long immediately prior to a race. @Imarshel Build the glutes and run faster.
  • 10ft off-trail is a minimum! And work fast too:)
  • Yesterday was an "I just don't feel like it" kind of day, but I did get a short 3 miler in. It was cold and rainy...and about a mile in I suddenly had to poop. So...I cut my planned 4+ mile run a little short. I'm still surprised at how much influence bathroom needs have on running. I can't count the times I've had to pee…
  • Halfway to goal. Right on schedule. I ran a different route today. Instead of zigzagging through a neighborhood, I did a long loop throught the northern side of down. It's funny how the the distance feels a lot larger when you eliminate the zigzags. I was looking at my map in Garmin and saying, "Dang! I didn't know I'd…
  • I love this. I have goofy knees and have struggled with injuries all this year. Each running day is indeed a gift. -- I added the bold emphasis above.
  • I think it's interesting how different people define long verses short mileage. I see a lot of people excited for having done 30 miles and a lot of posts apologizing for only having done 30 miles. For me, 30 is a lot considering how many miles I was able to do not that long ago. Also, when I tell my non-runner friends I…
  • Wow. that is a cold run. I think my lips would fall off...or my nose. Just yesterday, I was patting myself on the back for running in 35 degree weather in shorts. I think I may have lived in Florida a little too long...heh.
  • I'm just getting time to post. It's been a LONG holiday season. I'm happy to report that I exceeded my goal by a good margin. Next month is even going to be better...with an even bigger goal. 12/03/2014 - 3.33 Miles - Cumulative 3.33 Miles. 12/04/2014 - 4.12 Miles - Cumulative 7.45 Miles 12/06/2014 - 3.14 Miles -…
  • Whew...rough start this month. Lots of life stuff getting in the way of running. And Garmin's syncing and uploading has been all goofed up. This is the first chance I've gotten to report. Dang knees are finding the lengthening mileage a little challenging. 01/01/2015 - 5.02 Miles - Cumulative 5.02 Miles 01/04/2015 - 6.53…
  • Goin' for 75 miles. That's a 33% increase over last month; a lot more challenging. I'm looking forward to posting success
  • Bam! Goal complete...and then some. Next month, I will be adding mileage in prep for a half-marathon; that means a loftier goal for February. 12/03/2014 - 3.33 Miles - Cumulative 3.33 Miles. 12/04/2014 - 4.12 Miles - Cumulative 7.45 Miles 12/06/2014 - 3.14 Miles - Cumulative 10.59 Miles (Set a 5K PR on this one of 27:23)…
  • The goal is in sight. My goofy knees are holding up surprisingly well. Thank goodness. 12/03/2014 - 3.33 Miles - Cumulative 3.33 Miles. 12/04/2014 - 4.12 Miles - Cumulative 7.45 Miles 12/06/2014 - 3.14 Miles - Cumulative 10.59 Miles (Set a 5K PR on this one of 27:23) 12/08/2014 - 2.13 Miles - Cumulative 12.72 Miles…
  • I use a Garmin Forerunner 10 GPS watch for running. I can't say enough good things about it. It is simply awesome. I'm hoping to get a Vivofit for Christmas as well. Username: S_Hysell
  • Halfway through the month, and I'm halfway to the goal. Right on track! I missed posting after the 12/12 run. This catches things up. My runs are gradually getting longer. I'm increasing distance on a percentage basis; that's why the distances are so oddball. On an up note, my knees are still holding out. Yay! 12/3/2014 -…
  • This is a horribly tiny and short-term study, and the methodology is almost comical. I'm not sure I'd put much faith in it. From the article: "For the three-month-long study, 23 healthy young adults engaged in 45 minutes of endurance training four times a week. The participants cycled with one leg, using the leg not…
  • Going out to eat at a nice restaurant is very rare in my household. I think of it as a major treat, so when I go out I eat anything I want. Strangely though, my appetite isn't what it once was. I still don't end up eating as much as I used to. Also, I don't ever order a drink (unless it is a cocktail) with my meal. That…
  • I agree with this. If the burning is inside the top of your foot, you may have an injury. This could be at least partially the result of wearing the wrong shoes. If it's on the surface, it may just be a chafing issue that could be caused by socks, shoes, or even a piece of leaf/dirt/rock. In either case, you need to take a…
  • Injuries and vacations. Injuries really hindered my running and exercise routines, but I was careful and after a brief break was back at it. I've learned the hard way not to overdo the exercise. Vacations are a total blowout for me. This is especially true when visiting relatives in my hometown. There simply isn't room in…
  • Getting healthier has made me sleep much more easily. On workout days, my eyes usually close before my head hits the pillow. I guess everyone works a little differently.
  • Keeping it on track. My knees are still hangin' in there. I've started drawing pictures with my runs on the map using my Garmin GPS watch. Heh.... It makes extending the run distances a little more interesting. Big mall parking lots make a nice canvas, but it's a lot harder to visualize and implement than I though it would…
  • There is a lot of evidence that sitting all day long can be detrimental to your health in spite of the exercise you do at night. I've seen many of these recent articles as well. I work my butt off at night, but I still sit 8 hours a day too. I've been considering a standing desk. It might be something for you to consider…
  • Time. I want more time. I really miss the days of my youth when I could actually do creative things when I wanted. Now...kids...work...family...exercise.....Not much time for anything else.
  • Knees still hanging in there. It was at about these distances that my left knee got all goofed up a few months ago. Too much, too fast, too heavy. Now I'm ramping up the distance extremely slowly and I'm 36 lbs lighter. Hopefully the knees will hold up this time. So far so good. 12/3/2014 - 3.33 Miles - Cumulative 3.33…
  • Short run today. Chippin' away at the goal. 12/3/2014 - 3.33 Miles - Cumulative 3.33 Miles. 12/4/2014 - 4.12 Miles - Cumulative 7.45 Miles 12/6/2014 - 3.14 Miles - Cumulative 10.59 Miles (Set a 5K PR on this one of 27:23) 12/8/2014 - 2.13 Miles - Cumulative 12.72 Miles GOAL: 50 Miles
  • I ran a 5K this weekend and set a PR of 27:23. Not fast to many of you, but it blew my old PR out of the water. I never thought I'd break 28:00. 12/3/2014 - 3.33 Miles - Cumulative 3.33 Miles. 12/4/2014 - 4.12 Miles - Cumulative 7.45 Miles 12/6/2014 - 3.14 Miles - Cumulative 10.59 Miles (Set a 5K PR on this one of 27:23)…
