I have a crunchy granola bar in the car on the way to work....190 calories and it gets me to lunch. Yeah...I know it's not the healthiest, but it works for me on the go.

I really really want to be a runner, but I haven't yet been willing to give myself that label. I think I've done half doze 5ks and one 15k. I was working toward a half-marathon last spring with I goofed my right knee up. Two months later, I got back up to 4 mile runs and then goofed up my left knee. I'm currently recouping…

My snacks are 1/4 of my daily caloric intake. They used to be well over half, so that is a vast improvement. Where I once ate a candy bar in the afternoon, I now eat a banana. Life has changed. I still love a hershey's bliss dark chocolate each afternoon, however. 35 calories each.

I'm listening to the sound of an AC wall unit and sheet metal mechanics drilling in the distance. My office in in the middle of an aircraft maintenance/repair facility.

Great responses! It looks like I'll just have to wait a few more pounds. Honestly, I don't need to hear it; it just surprises me a little that I haven't. Now I know some of the reasons why. And honestly, I'm not terribly observant myself, so I don't know why expect other people to be. Someone mentioned noticing…

I use the Wii FIT for all my weigh ins. It's accurate to .1lb. It won't let you manipulate it with leaning.

It sounds like you were dieting/exercising with only one goal in mind. That goal was to lose weight. Once you met that goal, I'm guessing you were kind of thinking, "alright. Did it. Don't have to worry about it anymore." That is the real danger of any diet/weight loss program. They END. To make sure you don't make the…

I've always had the same problem. Exercise was only a means to an end. Then I started running (jogging). Honestly, it sucked for a long time, but I made a commitment that I would stick to it until I could do a 5k without stopping. Initially, that goal seemed impossible, but after a few months, I was able to do it. And a…

I'm such a nerd. I listen to podcasts while I workout. Anything from science to comedy to ..... talk radio. When running, I usually listen to Stuff You Should Know and/or RadioLab....maybe the Moth.

It doesn't sound like an injury as much as it sounds like really sore or cramping muscles. I agree with the advice to stretch. Also, you may need to have more hydration. I think I'd give it a day of rest and go out and try again. I have always had pain in the back of my calves when I run over 3 or 4 miles. Stretching…

I've run into the night (starting as sunset) quite a few times. The main problem I encountered was visibility. Potholes and other trip hazards are very hard to avoid if you don't have good light. Also....It's a lot "scarier". Those monsters are always hiding in the shadows. Crime is also a concern, but that depends mostly…

When I was finishing up my second 5k, some guy was shouting words of encouragement to runners. His words to me were, "you can do it, big guy!" Until that day, I didn't think of myself as a big guy. That was a year ago and the words still ring. I use them for motivation. ~~Scott

Go to your profile. On the right side about 1/4 way down the page, you'll see some links that say something like "edit your ticker". Go through the steps and your ticker will be created. Then to get it to show up on you posts, go the the message board under "community" and click on "Settings" near the top of the page.…

I like this way of looking at things. Nice analogy.

Amen! It took me a year of long distance jogging on a 200lb frame...and two knee injuries, to finally come to terms with that.

I will testify to the fact that jogging alone won't make the weight come off. About a year ago I started jogging and lost 20 lbs very quickly. After that nothing. I continued to increase my distance, but also increased my food intake because I thought I could get away with it. I'm a year down the road now and grounded due…
