  • 7 km - Friendship Trail and Pipeline Right of Way Exploration. While doing a slow run on tired legs stumbled across the Right of Way for the Water pipeline had been recently cleared and all the trees were chipped creating a deep mulch bed - like running on 6-8 inchs of soft loose material. A real workout for the tired legs…
  • So that would mean one of the Ladies would have to take a Plane across the Pond so they could Run at an event together. o:) >:)
  • 10km Roots and Ruts 2018 last night. Chip Time 1:15:08:66. 59/120 .That was fun, so much better than last weekend and this was on a much tougher course. Intentionally started out in the back 1/3 of the pack as my history on this event was to be to close to the front and the Speed Demons would drag me out and I would self…
  • Grizzlies are around the area but not anywhere near town - to many open agriculture fields and they prefer being in the tree's. It's always black bears. If you are paying attention you can see the signs of bear activity before you encounter them, Ant Hills Dug up, Scat piles with in season fruit visible, Bear Tracks at the…
  • Still waiting. :( :/ for our pool to finish maintenance cycle.
  • @rheddmobile Read your post about the challenges of your area and -- wow. I really appreciate my small town where I know 55% of the people by first name and recognize another 30% by mutual contacts. I can run anywhere at any time and it's not a worry about Human interactions ( exception = distracted drivers ) but wildlife…
  • @RunRachelleRun It's official we have 2 things in common. Running and lefse. According to my mom Red Potatoes are better and they must be naturally cooled to room temp before you try to work with them. Of course mom always cooks it on a wood stove ( I mean directly on the stove body, no cast iron pan ) to give it that…
  • I believe it was an honest mistake. There were several spots where the trails would meet and traveled together in opposite directions or in the same direction but would split off, so if you are talking - looking at your watch/phone it would be easy to step over the line and be captured on the new path. These were usually…
  • @rheddmobile How frustrating! I hope you hear something from the race people. We have a huge 10k race here in Vancouver every April, and a year or two ago, a lot of cheating came to light. Who knows how long it had been going on? But with more people taking photos, those people who win despite being seen walking during the…
  • Catching up on a few days of posts. Had to drop a note to @rheddmobile for the West Cancer FightOn 5k. Her comments brought a smile to my face - especially the baby calling out in Runner's Lingo and the announcer calling out the Walkers and Dog Owners at the start. Then you passing the words of encouragement forward to…
  • Fairly tired and beat up so missed some posts, anyone who's hurt- sending you a virtual band-aid, to all those who had runs/races or new PB's for distance, time or elevation :D :) . 9.5 km Don't Get Lost In The Woods - Trail Race at a Cross Country Ski Club - last week after the snowfall they actually had people ( hardcore…
  • @MNLittleFinn I so understand the comment and related picture. What I consider to be my prime events are all Bushwhackers. Evergreen Trail Tech (Pine Tree Sand Dunes), Mountain Madness , Emperor's Challenge (20km over a Mountain) Don't Get Lost in the Woods ( X-Country Ski club trails ), Roots and Ruts ( Pine Tree…
  • @MobyCarp My friend from the local running club has a BQ Time. Julie Boles Gummesen. As long as they don't shift the time due to an abundance of competitors. Can you provide any suggestions on accommodation since it will be at a premium - where do you book to give the best travel options. If I remember it's bus service to…
  • @pudgy1977 Like others may have mentioned I would suggest a C25K - Couch to 5k plan. A simple google search will turn up various ones. Most of them work of a walk-run type pgm with slowly increasing the overall distance/time and slowly increasing the run distance.
  • @quilteryoyo 2 of the ladies in our little club do the Run-Walk as part of there regular Long Run training and even in events. It definitely works, I did a HM Distance Training Run with them last year and 3 others. When we finished our time was 2-3 minutes better than my event PB for the same distance. So the walk breaks…
  • 6 km on the Miserable Miles Course. Even with the Rain and Snow we had over the last few days the course was in great shape. The ground was thirsty and most of the moisture has been soaked up except for 2 spots that I ran around without getting my feet wet. The first time I did the course this year I was at 10:45/km,…
  • US Residents only :( :s :/ My event on Sunday should get a new name Don't Get Lost in the Woods 2018 Snow Much Fun A few trees down and a little snow to hide the Mud Bogs. Bringing very warm extra cloths and a few towels so I can go hit the Hot Tub at the local swimming pool.
  • @ContraryMaryMary - I voted for you and left a small comment quoting @JessicaMcB . She should copyright her saying and use it with her shoe sponsor as a sales tagline attached to a muddy trail run picture. You were in the lead by a small amount. Go vote for Mary -
  • The main body of the storm missed us by a whisker. Still have a layer of ice on the ground and vehicles. Hopefully it gets warm enough to melt it today. We had early ice storm last year and the ice stayed on the trails for 2 months, needed skates not running shoes.
  • This is happening = :( :/ :s . Was supposed to do a 15k trail run tonight but with the rain yesterday and today turning everything into major mud bogs - plus the wind it's not happening. Declared rest day The wind gust's are the worst part - they add some resistance if you are trying to run and a few degrees of windchill.…
  • 20 days until the pool re-opens after Maintenance cycle. I know that I will struggle to get a simple 1000m in.
  • @BruinsGal_91 That's the best answer.
  • @ContraryMaryMary As others have said That is a lot of mud! @JessicaMcB would probably be very happy there. Gorse is Nasty stuff. Still looks like you had some fun. @MarylanderX Welcome to the group, we can be chatty on lots of differant topics so it does tend to build up. So people can get a little in sight into others…
  • Was gearing up to go out last night for a run and got called into work. So no Friday Evening run. Got home at 1:30am. So at 7:10 this morning when the alarm went off I hit the OFF Button and rolled over. Did get out by 9 - tried to run but just wasn't working. Whole body was just wiped out. Dropped down to a walk and…
  • @GabrielleCP Come join us in the Monthly Running Challenge. Some of the people who replied to your shoe question pop in and out and the answer's they gave would have been parroted by many in this thread. Go to page 1 and have a read to decide if you are interested in this group of wonky - motivating - jokers.
  • and the look on your friends/families face when you tell them you pay $$$ money for Race Events to Voluntarily run that long distance in crappy weather all for a cheap metal, half a banana and a so-so tech shirt with questionable colors/design. I think every runner goes through the transition where 5 miles (10 km for us…
  • Questions of the month What did you wanna be when you grew up? Like others I really don't remember any specific career aspirations as a kid. I grew up on a farm and as the youngest I got all of the really pleasant jobs ( ie low skill ) Dad had 10 Square Grain Bins that he inherited from his uncle - nothing like climbing…
  • Thursday Sept 6 late evening run on the Miserable Miles Race course. 6 km of trails, hills, trees and a little bit of mud from this mornings rain storm. 5 minutes faster than the last time I did the course and this time I was successful crossing all the obstacles - especially pumped about the Balance Beams. Picture some 4…
  • @girlinahat Sounds like your sister has truly embraced Canada and it's wilderness. Don't really know the area as it is about a 17 hour drive from where I live. This Steinbach link shows a good looking paved trail through their park system. Strava Heat Maps show lots of activity . Being Manitoba prairie it is probably very…
  • 8 km Embraced the Suck. Was a beautiful evening temperature wise 17.2 C / 39% humidity. Maybe even a little warm. Wind out of the south at 21 kph so that was a struggle when it was full in your face for 2 km. Just one of those runs where it should have been great but just didn't come together. Didn't feel tired, hydration…
