Thanks for the ideas and thoughts, everyone. One thing I do not understand is that everyone seems to concur that if I went up in calories, and stuck to that, I would start to lose weight. Unfortunately, I tried that for almost a year and got no results. That is how I ended up deciding to lower the calories to what you see…

As I've said, I have autoimmune thyroid disease and am being treated, but the docs shake their heads and say they can't do much if your levels are in range, which mine technically are now. I've also been told by them that thyroid problems are no excuse for the weight...sigh. That's one of the reasons I wanted to lose…

I'm 5'2" and over 150 lbs. I'd like to lose 30. It's a health issue not a "looks" issue.

That looks at more than basic thyroid bloodwork and shops me away bc I'm now within "range." My physical activity includes walking walking everywhere (even to get groceries) bc I don't have a car, standing all day at work (at a standing desk), walking 2 miles to work every AM and 2 miles gain in the PM, Zumba, yoga, hiking…

Thanks for all of the advice! I am working on finding a better doctor but they are like a needle in a haystack. I've already been to four endocrinologists and one GP...gearing up for endo number 5 and hoping he is the one that lo

Also, the low calorie diet I'm on now is following the guidelines of an established 21-day detox program. I'm eschewing lean proteins (fish, egg whites, etc.) for the first 11 days, and on day 12 I will add those back in. Right now I'm on cooked veggies, raw veggies, certain fruits (berries) and protein shakes...plus an…

I started at about 1600 calories per day, meticulously documenting everything I put in my mouth, about a year ago. Tried that for a few months and nothing. So I went down incrementally from there, still losing nothing...sometimes even gaining!...which is how I arrived at ~800 daily calories that I am consuming now. So…

I am hoping the new endo (number 5) I am seeing in a few weeks is willing to refer me to a nutritionist. As most thyroid patients will tell you, a good endo is hard to find. I have to say, though, that I also don't have much trust in American nutritionists. My mom was recently sent to one who is widely considered one of…

No. I've already been to four different endos and none of them had a clue. They are not trained in nutrition. The message I got is that there is no reason I should be fat if my calories are below a certain daily amount, and I exercise. Not the case.

Unfortunately, I didn't lose weight on 1600 daily calories. After a few months I dropped it down. Didn't lose weight so dropped it again.

The best I've tried is Plant Fusion. Expensive but worth it for its lack of chemicals and processing plus great flavor...it's made from amaranth and quinoa.

Note - I have been struggling with thyroid disease over the past two years. At one point, about 18 months ago, I went really low/TSH hit 6, and I almost completely lost my appetite. Had to force myself to eat two small but healthy meals per day - for example, one tiny portion of baked salmon was a meal. fConsequently, I…

I've been trying to lose weight for the past year and really started cleaning up my diet and watching caloric intake in February of 2013. My BMR is calculated at 1320. My TDEE is calculated at 1931.

Please be very careful with self-administering iodine, particularly if you have Hashimoto's and not just regular hypothyroidism (btw, the largest percentage of hypothyroidism is caused by Hashimoto's). I suffered dire consequences a couple of years ago by overdosing on iodine - in the form of seaweed, sea veggies, sushi,…

I don't know what the answer is, but I'm right here with you looking for the same info! My endos/docs have been no help and it's like talking to a brick wall trying to explain that calories in and calories out are absolutely not making sense.
