Go to a running shoe store and tell them about your shin splints. Not wearing the proper shoes will cause splints. Your neck pain is probably coming from not doing an exercise correctly. Stomach exercises where you're supposed be using stomach muscles regularly end up in neck pain, because the person is using more neck…

As long as pizza fits into your daily calorie goal, you're not cheating.

We don't use our current weight as a goal weight?????

There's no jump starting, this is for the long haul, meaning permanent. That's what MFP is all about.
-
Yes, that's bound to happen at first, in fact losing 8 pounds in 2 weeks is extraordinary, that would mean that you would have had to have consumed 28,000 less calories or 2000 calories per day less and or burn off that much thru exercise or a combination of both. At any rate as you continue to lose it slows down. Nothing…

MFP -- counting calories is literally the only thing that has worked for me.

Well, you always know you're catching on to a new life style change when you're spending more time in the fresh vegetable/fruit/produce isle of the super market--than any other isle. For work/afternoon snacking you want something that is going to satisfy you so you don't start raiding what other workers have brought in,…

A good book every night, one that's hard to put down, with a warm cup of low calorie Swiss Miss hot coco. While most of us take daily worries to bed with us, and many suffer from insomnia, there's nothing like a great book, that interferes with that thought process and allows you to get a good nights sleep, than reading.

Slow it down on your exercise. You might be getting enough at work. Do not eat, if you're not hungry. Eat the right things, a balanced diet of protein and carbs, and a little fat each day. Like a small Snickers bar for a snack. Give it a couple of weeks and then see how you feel.
-
Well you'll learn very quickly after logging in each day what foods you're eating that are loaded with empty calories, but overall since most of us eat a variety of protein, fat and carbs in day anyway, I don't see any difference per definition of a calorie in macros. IOW a calorie is a calorie regardless if it comes from…

Monthly cycle changes with women are normal. If it's just 3 days out of the month that you go into this ravenous cookie type monster, I wouldn't worry about it, it will balance itself out.
-
Well it appears that you're getting plenty of activity during the day, so the problem is food and drink consumption. Weight loss is simple math, calories in versus calories out, simply meaning eat less, move more. I imagine with 3 kids and two jobs the movement part is already taken care of. Eliminate the word diet from…

Do not base weight loss on the Biggest Loser or Extreme weight loss. Only the super obese, those accustomed to eating 4 to 7 thousand calories a day can be put on a less than 1500 calories a day a peel off the weight at first, and show business is as it is, for someone to lose 38 pounds in one week, would have to weigh in…

All weight loss is--is calories in versus calories out simply meaning eat less move more. I don't like these type products that promise weight loss. They never work. It's just designed to relieve you of cash. Remember a calorie is a calorie regardless if it comes from protein, fat or carbs. Be faithful about logging in…

If you don't count calories no one on this board is going to be able to help or motivate you. If you won't keep track of the calories you're consuming no one else can do it for you.

Portion control, and stop eating when you're cooking. If you have to eat your dinner early.

I don't think people who just start an exercise program like it, as you stated you consider It more of a chore. Exercise buddies never work out for the long term, someone is going to quit working out, which discourages the whole process. Busy daily schedules get in the way, etc. etc. etc. I imagine over 50% of the nation…

I am 61 and have been going to Jazzercise classes since I was in my 30's. I stopped for a few years, and because of my refusal to get on a scale I let 25 pounds sneak up on me. So I rejoined my class and am now just 2 pounds from goal and feel decades younger, and much lighter and quicker on my feet. I can catch the grand…

It would be a great help to everyone who is trying to give you advice to let us know what your current weight is, how tall are you and what your goal weight is. Otherwise, it's like trying to do math without using numbers.

The way we talk to ourselves is the difference between success and failure. You're title "I am going to give it a "shot" indicates you're not really committed. You're basically saying O.K I'll try see how it goes, and it may or may not work. Turn that into I am going to lose weight. I know I can do this and say it to…

Food being brought in by co-workers is and has always been a problem, and very hard to resist at times. You don't want to tell anyone you're trying to lose weight, because you'll get the Oh "you don't look like you need to lose weight", so come up with something else that doesn't offend them, but makes sense. I am going…

Ice cream, and you can substitute that with low fat yogurt, or frozen yogurt that is very good but not loaded with the calories. Not certain my you want to give up on diet soda, unless you're drinking too much if it, but for a nice change up there is diet iced tea in most stores. Restaurants or eating out, is just portion…

I go to a Jazzercise class, it gives me a little time to socialize with the girls also. I like working out with others it keeps me motivated. I also do hiking in the summer/fall months.

A Hi how are you doing? My name is. What's your name, how long at you been working out here, is a very good start. Then after a couple of weeks or months of getting to know each other, it's would you like to go to lunch after the workout.

You become an alcoholic when you can't stop drinking. You find excuses to drink, you start questioning yourself about your drinking, a bad sign, and then alcohol no longer is your friend, but your weakness, and then it starts affecting your relationship with your friends, family and your job. That's when you know you have…

Realistically, if you're competitive you really need to join some type of workout class, nobody cares what kind of gym clothes you're wearing, or how fat you are, they have to keep their eyes on the instructor. Anyone on this board could tell you they ran 20 miles today, but they really sat on the couch all day long eating…

I believe that was the point I was making. The opt is not eating enough to lose weight, his metabolic rate has not completely shut down, but it sure as heck has slowed down to a snails pace. Furthermore the man stuck in the cave wasn't doing squats or doing cardio in the cave. He was flat on his back. So if you can…

I have to estimate too, there's nothing wrong with if you're accurate at if, and obviously if you're still losing weight you must be accurate.

You're really not complaining about losing 9 pounds in the month of September are you? That is a fantastic accomplishment, that not many realize. The more you lose, the slower it comes off. It's just basic math. I imagine you used to consume around 3 or more thousand calories a day, cut back to less than 1500, and 9 of…

There is such a thing as starvation mode. Your metabolism shuts down. Not long ago, I watched a show on this man they still found alive injured in a cave and couldn't get out. 30 days with not even a smidgen of food. Everyone was shocked he was still alive, his body by shutting down his metabolic rate is what kept him…
