When I first started squatting and trying to improve my "get low" <read: to parallel and beyond> I would put my back up against the wall, and squat as low as I could go with my heels still on the floor. For me, this literally stretched everything from ankles, to hip flexors. I Still do these if I feel tight. And I second…

Long time advocate of raw milk. If you have time and are interested, search out the history of milk pasteurization in the US. It's quite interesting. Also of historical interest: You are more likely to die from pasturized milk than raw milk. http://realrawmilkfacts.com/PDFs/pasteurized-dairy-outbreak-table.pdf The largest…

I advocate exercise as the best thing you can do to treat depression and anxiety. I suffered from depression for many years.....and have found that changing the way I eat combined with exercise was life changing. Not to diminish meds--if you need them, take them! Here is a really good article I found about deficiencies in…

Myofacial Release of the gastrocnemius, achillies and plantar fascia! www.watkinsfitness.com/img/SELF/myofacial_release.pdf My entire life I thought I had shin splints...it wasn't until I really researched shoes, stride, technique, stretching, etc. that I discovered myofacial release....no more pain for me!!

while gut bacteria is important for everyone...It definitely does not say it causes--but contributes, and it is only hypothesis. Eating disorders are primarily psychological...and should be treated as such. It is well known that the brain chemistry in those suffering from ED is altered in what is called the "reward" center…

To the OP, congrats on starting a new healthy habit by kicking a bad one! I have cut out refined sugar completely, as well as processed food as a result of it making me feel so yuck all the time. Over the years, I have come to understand the way my body responds to certain things.....I have NO tolerance (physically) for…

Holla! I could have written this! FWIW: I didn't find this angry at all.....it does get tiresome listening to how no-one wants to be bulky....tell it to my thighs! ; )

Busy week, but want good food go to idea: I like good food, healthful--but loathe coming home late to have to create a meal and clean up the mess. On Sunday of a busy week I will plan on cooking choose 2 proteins (ex: chicken, and fish) ( think 2+lbs at a time) --Sautee/Bake with onions garlic, herbs/seasoning of your…

If you are eating intuitively....and are losing, then you are doing it right! But logging helps you gauge just how much you are eating, but also makes you hyper aware of what you are eating...it can be a catch 22 if you obsess at all! Nursing....some women simply lost weight doing it. I hated them ( ) Me? I had…

OHHHHH nOOOOOOO! Huge bummer acromioclavicular joint....no one knows it's there until they seperate it! Booo! Are you having the repair surgery--or was yours just a partial tear?

In addition to caloric value, caffeine is a stimulant, which has an affect on some of the metabolic functions of the body. Meaning it can increase heart rate and blood pressure. It is also a mild diuretic. Studies have shown a cup of coffee or tea post-workout help aid recovery. But studies also show that over consumption…

I *was* doing pull ups everyday, but am now allowing at least a day in between to allow full recovery. So you were reading my mind with the whole recovery thing. I was doing everyday because I was excited....but logic would be to recover so that maybe I can do more the next time! I taught 6 classes last week. 3 bootcamp (…

Quick update! Guess who can do pull ups? Uh huh, that's right....oh yeah *doing the butter churn dance* Granted...right now I can only do 2 in a row....but trying everyday. My husband even modified our door-frame pull up thing so I can do them at home. So, Yay! So about 3 weeks ago my weight jumped up 3-4…

Great responses! I know when I first started doing squats, there was a period of time I struggled with my form. I found that for me, I needed to widen my stance and let my feet turn out just a smidge from parallel--too far of a turn out lead to adductor longus being engaged as a primary. Not turned out enough caused my…

I have done 2 sprints. So--I am not an expert, but I do enjoy them immensely! I think the biggest thing people underestimate is the swim. Open water is way, way, way different than swimming in a pool. I would highly recommend going to the place where the race is going to be held (if possible) and just doing an out and back…

I sweat a lot too. The only thing I hate is butt sweat....but wearing black alleviates the embarressment ; ) I like to think of it as a double good....working hard sweat and sweating like you're at the spa sweat ! I didn't sweat this much until after I had kids....the change up in hormones must have flipped a switch…

I have not seen this....*LOVE*!! Thanks for posting. It's amazing how far we've come from traditional farming to feed local communities to genetically engineered cash crops.

I have sensitivity to artificial chemicals(sweetners, colors, flavors), and to sugar beet & HFCS~if they are GMO. The artificial stuff gives me a headache and a stomach ache. The Gmo stuff makes the lymph nodes in my neck and armpits swell....more so with the corn...and a headache. It always feels like a hangover the next…

Thanks Aylajane! I do have the door jam pull up bar, and i do use it....but the door jams in our house....not so good...so I have to be cautious....which sucks. And for me...I have a small tear in my right shoulder...a bit of scar tissue, so warming up is essential which means I can't just do them at will. This also…

I used to sit down at my desk as soon as I got home from working out...and get sucked into whatever was going on at work ( home office). Can you say butt acne???:embarassed:  Needless to say....I always change quickly before I sit down....even if I can't shower right away!

Every variation of a push up is going to get your stronger! Wide, narrow, knee, against a wall....just keep pushing! What really made a difference for me to go from one hurting push up on the floor to 40+ ?? Bench pressing, OHP, BOR, Deads.

Can it really be that it has been 5 months since my last update??? After several months at TDEE + some, I gained about 3-5 lbs over the winter. I didn't realize it....clothes didn't change that much, but measurements went up. Mostly I felt it in my mid-section. I started my first cut about 1 month ago. Down to 175 (from…

46, turning 47 in September. I am just owning being healthy and fit! I still have about 10-15lbs to lose.....but really I just focus on how I look in the mirror vs. the scale. I am strong, healthy. I can lift, I teach HIIT, I teach ballet, and training for my 3rd triathlon. My motto these days: (thanks Viola Davis~The…

I'm really sorry for your loss. I have had 2 miscarriages....both passed without D&C. I understand your fears about the D&C, but have several friends who had them and had no fertility issues. Honestly...if it were me and I felt like working out, I would just work out. The only thing you need to be concerned about is…

I only ride in enclosed parks because I just don't like the danger of drivers. I know too many people who have been injured.... I was just talking about this with a friend of mine this weekend....which lead us to this handy camera: http://www.bicycles.net.au/2014/02/fly6-not-an-action-camera-a-safety-camera/ They have the…

I started wearing actual black underwear with my compression pants after seeing another woman bend over--showing the entire gym her WHOLE world! I know her....so told her to retire those pants! I am paranoid of showing butt crack while squatting bending, etc. Even more so that I will and no one will tell me! lol. Black…
