  • Swimming and / or aquarobics can be great and with the water supporting your body weight there is little chance of injury. Cycling (either stationary or outside) can also be a good calorie burner and only partial load bearing so less damaging to your knees and hips than something like running. Be careful on your food…

  • It depends how long and hard you run. From revision 2 of the book 'sports nutrition for endurance athletes' by Monique Ryan, the recommendations are: 45 to 75 minute runs at moderate to high intensity; 3 to 3.5 g per lb of body weight (6.5 to 8 g per kg) 60 to 90 minute runs at low to moderate intensity; 2.5 to 3 g per lb…
  • Peppermint tea and nettle tea (fresh leaves are best)
  • I used it about 11 years ago to cut weight I gained after an accident stopped me from being as active as I was used to. It worked well and once I got back to a weight I was happy with I had no difficulty in going back to a normal diet and maintaining since then (55 to 60 kg weight range). It is, however, very monotonous…

  • Check with your manufacturers website, but I suspect that could be your problem. The 'Innards' of the sole could be deteriorating even when the outside looks fine. Also be careful as if you let them deteriorate too far you will be unconsciously modifying your gait slightly so problems could continue on the replacement shoes

  • When did you last change your running shoes. Either worn out or new shoes could affect your gait and stability and case soreness

  • As above, not trying to sound mean but according to your profile you joined on the 26th February (so 3 rather than 5 months) and have already clocked up a massive 304 posts. On some posts you have lost weight, on some you have lost nothing. Your goals change and you refuse to open your diary so that people can help you.…

  • The first thing that jumped out at me on the machine reading is that the average speed did not match the distance so I ran your numbers through https://www.hss.edu/EstimatedEnergyExpenditure.pdf Using the stationary bike (vigorous effort) and subtracting your bmr from the website MET, I came up with 487 calories burned.…
  • Looking at the book 'sports nutrition for endurance athletes' by Monique Ryan (revision 2, Rev 3 is available but I do not have access) the following is recommended Preparation (base) training cycle Carbs; 3g per lb of weight (6.5g/kg) Protein; 0.5g per lb of weight (1.1g/kg) Fat; 0.5g per lb of weight (1g/kg) Build…

  • You might find this link useful to calculate your calories https://www.hss.edu/EstimatedEnergyExpenditure.pdf Quick note though, if adding the data to MFP, remember to subtract 1 from the MET number so that you don't double count the bmr portion of the equation.
  • [/quote] That may be true about gyms, but the statistics show that there has been a gradual increase in the US of those people that report doing some level of strength training (69.6% in 1999 to 74.3% in 2002). True, many people may not use a gym but that doesn't mean a good portion of people (in the US at least) do some…
