Yes, I'm embarrassed about my focus on food, but all roads seem to lead to food for me. I've tried to get into a food-as-fuel mindset without success. Other than the ten pounds I've packed on in this past year, I've been able to maintain my weight loss in spite of the fascination with food- just gotta keep track of those…

Self-harming behavior describes disordered eating very well for me.

Mtararoot, is there room among your little garlic plants for tomatoes? They've always grown pretty well together for me.

I like alfalfa sprouts raw in salads, sandwiches, or just strewn around as a garnish.

My mother passed along some dating advice from her youth in Maryland in the 1930's. "it's just as easy to fall in love with a rich man as a poor one." I think she would have had no problem with a foodie call.
-
Yes, Ann, you pin down exactly what is problematic with a foodie call.

My rural corner of southern Nevada has had very few doses of vaccine available, and after weeks of playing online whack-a-mole attempting to get an appointment, sudden success today! My husband and I, both in our 70's with chronic health conditions, are scheduled for vaccinations this Friday.

I was polite but dishonest, not so much in what I said, but in what I didn't say- that I had no romantic interest in him. It wasn't a fancy meal, just a corner cafe, but it loomed large at that time of struggle in my life.

Back in the mid 60's I accepted dinner from a much older man (I was 17 or 18 and he was well over 50) purely for the free food. Yep, I still feel bad about it all these years later.

I like a little meat with my sauce.

b I live in a small town with a large prison, and covid hit first the prison, then the outside community. I'm willing to wait until until institutionalized folks get their immunizations. 74-year-old here, but something of a hermit in the best of times.

Those cookies look so chunky and munch-worthy. Maybe my daughter in Damascus, MD will send me a care package.
-
Napa cabbage is mild and crunchy. I like it raw, shredded into a salad.

I love all the glorious funky smells of fermenting foods. It's probably good that I have no close neighbors. Or maybe that's WHY I have no close neighbors..

Crock-fermented pickles are the best! I haven't made them since my crock went missing in a move over 40 years ago. Maybe it's time to replace it.
-
That looks awesome. A favorite childhood breakfast of mine was my dad's concoction of peanut butter and blue cheese on an English muffin.

Gorgeous golden beets, lemurcat! Did you grow them?

Food has always been a major interest for me. I love reading about it, thinking about it, and talking about it. The history, politics, and philosophy of food are endlessly fascinating to me. The pleasure of seeking out and executing the "best" version of a recipe consumes a fair amount of my time and energy. I was able to…

Growing your own will save you a ton of money! Marijuana, while legal and readily available here in Nevada, is prohibitively expensive.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea when I was at my highest weight, about 200 lb at 5'2". My doctor told me I could either lose weight or go to a CPAP machine at night. I chose to lose weight, and my apnea stopped after about 30 pounds loss. Other health concerns, heart problems and knee issues, showed improvement as well.

I like fruitcake full of garish candied fruit and a good dose of booze.

In my world, there's always time for pomegranates. I love the meditative process of picking them apart and slowly releasing the succulent morsels one by one. Good thing, since I have a big tree full of them almost ready for harvest.

I've made quick pickles from green cherry tomatoes using apple cider vinegar and lots of dill and garlic. They keep well in the refrigerator for a few months, but I prefer water-bath processed pickles for the mellower flavor and much longer storage life.

Thank you for sharing your inspirational story. Wishing you a long and healthy maintenance!

Health and mobility problems motivated me to lose the excess weight I'd been packing around for 30 years. Better to head off future problems by keeping weight under control early on, but evidently I'm a slow learner.

Our neighborhood looks noticeably more rundown since March. It's an older area with a high percentage of low-income residents.
-
Welcome, young one! I was 65 when I started to lose my excess weight. It was a slow process, but here I am, 73 years old and 70 pounds lighter, enjoying better health thanks to mfp. There are many knowledgeable people here to help along the way.

Interesting! Your plants look beautiful and healthy. I wonder if the pallets would help deter rabbits. We seem to have a bumper crop of the cute little garden munchers this year.

I have a love/hate relationship with pears. The scrawny little tree we planted 16 years ago is now a towering fruit factory, swamping my kitchen with a tsunami of fruit in late summer, certainly a blessing, but also a bit of a curse with the flurry of canning involved with saving every smidgen.

Yes, the artichokes I've grown got wilder and coarser over the years. I attributed it to my high desert climate, but maybe it's just the nature of the beast.
