  • So my name is Elizabeth. I'm in my early 50s but still have the spirit of a teenager. I've had a number of life and health challenges that resulted in a major weight gain over the last 20 years. I finally decided to have weight loss surgery a couple of years ago. I managed to lost about 80 pounds during my first year…

  • My advice is that if you can keep losing some weight without the surgery, then do that and take care of your back issue first. Losing weight will help your joints, no matter how you lose the weight. If you can lose the weight without the surgery, then certainly do that. While the surgery helps and is a great tool (I had my…
  • I started with Unjury vitamins post-surgery, but am now taking regular vitamins. It took me a while to find what would work for me and not upset my stomach. I now take the following: 2 tabs. GNC Hair, Skin and Nail Formula (primarily biotin and it works!) 2 tabs. GNC Ultra Mega 50+ Mini (the key here is the "mini" as the…
  • Hi Mae! Actually, I had also gained 10 pounds and just did the 5DPT last week. It is great! I did my first week last week and it helped me very much get back to the basics and focus on what I needed to do to continue to lose weight. I'm glad I tried it and gave it the five days, because it works! Both in restarting my…
  • Wow, great determination delivers great results! Congrats!!
  • Looking to join and trying to stay in the habit of coming here daily! Whoo Hoo ... 2 day streak so far ... LOL Anyway, gotta get back to work, but glad I found this group. Not exactly sure how to follow threads here yet, though. Elizabeth
  • Hi Jackie. You shouldn't be scared of the diet part of the surgery. The liquid and pureed stages don't last for very long and from my experience, you really don't want to eat that much anyway. I was more afraid of the surgery itself, but all went well and I am now two months out. I started soft foods about two weeks ago…
  • I'm almost two months out and still stay away from seeds and nuts, including those in berries. For flavoring your yogurt, try eating plain or greek yogurt and put a spoonful of seedless blueberry or raspberry preserves on it. That's what I do. Good luck!
  • I found that I like Unjury protein the best. Vanilla is my go to and I enjoy it and can flavor however I want. You also get 29 grams of protein when milked with one cup of skim milk. I also really like BariWise protein fruit drink mixes (pineapple my favorite) that you mix with water. They have 15 grams of protein and are…
  • Thanks so much for your thoughts. I'm not sure anyone actually notices yet that I'm losing weight but many have said that I look good and are considerate about the fact that I just came back from a medical leave. I tell people that I'm exercising more and just joined a gym to start swimming, so we will see how things…
  • Hi there, I had surgery just six weeks ago myself and experienced a period of two weeks or so with no loss. Found that I was eating too few calories and upped them by 200 and the following week I was down almost 4 lbs. So I went from eating 600-800 calories a day to now 800-1000 and the weight is coming off again. Weird, I…
  • Hi Ladies, I'd really like to have some support to and just joined MFP. I just had sleeve surgery on 2-26-2014 (so only five weeks ago). I managed to lose 35 lbs. in my first month and 10 inches, but I have not lost any weight in the past week, which freaked me out a bit. I'm still struggling to get in all my water and…
  • There are many things I hate about being overweight, but one of the worst things for me is the challenges I have with traveling. I hate having to think about seat belt extensions on airlines, or booking an extra seat, or worrying about mean people, etc. I love to travel and look forward to doing more traveling this year as…
  • Hi all, I'm Elizabeth and just joined MFP today. I made a major life changing decision and had bariatric surgery a month ago. Today is my last official day of medical leave and I return to work tomorrow, which is a bit scary for some weird reason. I guess I've had the last month to just focus on myself and my recovery,…
  • Hi, I had surgery on Feb 26th. Now one month out and doing great. I go back to work tomorrow, which is a bit scary! Looking for new friends, too.
  • Hi, I just joined today and am transitioning over here from Calorie King where I was very active. This site and app have a lot more to offer with connecting to other apps, so here I am! I am embarking on a major life change, having undergone gastric sleeve surgery four weeks ago and looking to lose over 100 lbs. this year.…
  • It varies a lot based on the insurance company, but mine was approved within a week. Things happened quickly thereafter, but you'll have more testing and pre-op stuff to do before getting your surgery date. Once I finished all the testing, the surgery date came quickly, like within two weeks! I had surgery on February 26th…
