I have a friend who has put himself together quite a decent set of weights with racks and barbells and plates for pretty cheap off of craigslist.... Maybe the membership fees would be put to better use that way, then you can set your own lifting rules at home and not worry about these people treating you this way... you…

I found this also to be the case, I truly believe a huge part of it was a mental thing. It took me 3 tries to get thru C25K. One to get through the 5K to 10K. Now, tomorrow I'm looking at 11 miles in prep for my first half next month. I finally finished C25K in August last year. From now to November it is definitely…

I have heard good things about Topamax, though I don't take it myself.

I did. I took it for two years for migraine prevention and a history of VT. No issues with my blood pressure though. I always described it like a governor on a car. I gained weight. I couldn't workout. I was tired and run down no matter what I did. I stopped taking it about a year ago. My heart rate has been ok, migraines…

Always follow your gut. If something doesn't feel right, it's probably not.

I have used the finger tip of a rubber glove to prevent sock snags as we. Not necessarily ideal, But it worked..

So far every single protein powder I have ever tried has that funky protein powder taste. I use Teras Whey right now. I through in a couple tablespoons of powdered peanut butter to the chocolate or the powdered peanut butter and chocolate to the vanilla... Like magic-- that protein funk is gone.

^^ This. I RAN for two hours yesterday. MFP said I would burn something like 1500 calories. According to my HRM, I burned 948. I at back some, but not all of those.

I am winding down in a training cycle for a half marathon and I do some lifting but nothing heavy yet.. Once this cycle is done, I want to revamp my training regimen to add more lifting. I love food entirely too much to set my limit to 1200 and generally try to eat back all of my exercise calories... except for my long run…

This was exactly what happened to me... I tried the squat one and some other one that had some sort of ab exercise, MORE squats, and push ups. That was it. For a month. I had to stop. More isn't always better.. sometimes it's just more. For me, had that been my intro to working out, I can see it having gone either way...…

I'll be honest, I fell into one... it was the most boring thing I have ever experienced. I think I made it to day 15 and I decided my time was way better spent elsewhere.

I got my Garmin with an HRM, but that is because I would wear one anyway... silly to wear two devices when one can do both. If you wouldn't normally wear an HRM, I don't think it's essential. I got nothing for you on the white. I used to wear a carnation pink Polar HRM and that never seemed to discolor. But who know how…

I have chondromalacia. I run. I do squats, I do lunges, dead lifts. In a former life, I even figure skated, ran track, and fenced with it. I have, however, gone through several rounds of PT most of it focused on addressing muscle imbalances in my thighs. Mine tends to rear its ugly little head when I have a long period of…

I haven't lost one from running... yet. But I did when I was a competitive figure skater in my youth. It will correct itself as it grows out and separate once it reaches the point where the toe skin ends. Consider getting your running shoes 1/2 to a full size bigger than your normal shoe. For me the foot swelling wasn't…

I think you might end up with muscle imbalances if you only use running as your "leg" day. I also incorporate squats, deadlifts, lunges, and kettlebell swings into my leg workouts.

Yes- Absolutely sign up for one near the end- maybe a week or two out in case you need to repeat a week. I think I did my first 5K in 32 and change. Just a hair longer than what the program ends with.
-
Bad runs happen. Don't give up. How much do you run per week? Maybe you need make sure you are fueling yourself properly and check to see if you might be overdoing it. I personally will almost without exception, have a really rotten run if I run two days in a row.

I can only think that when I downloaded it, it was free... I'm not usually one to pay for apps  I found it to be very user friendly and I linked it up with my music...I'm not super high tech, I'm sure most of them do that these days  I like apps that are simple to use, and this one was. I can't speak as to…

I used the app from Active. I think it was free but I honestly can't remember. Stick with the program as it's set up. Don't worry if you need to repeat a week. It took me a good three tries at getting started before I stuck it out and finished. If you do any of your runs on the treadmill, you can set it up for time instead…

This is awesome! I thought I had experienced that runner's high, rush or whatever you want to call it many times before. Not until recently did I get to the point where I ran as hard as I could that like you, tears were coming out of my eyes... something just pushed me over the edge and it was amazing! Keep pushing!

I went to a running store. Got fitted. Bought Bought the shoes they said we're the right ones for my feet. Fast forward a couple of months- I finally realized they weren't the ones for me. I went online to runners world and roadrunnersports.com and used their programs to find a pair. They were pricey but my legs and feet…

I am not familiar with that shoe.... I'd recommend starting at a running store and see what they say is the appropriate shoe type for your foot structure and gait. (it might not be the end all be all of shoe procurement, it was not for me- but most of my running friends have had great luck starting there.) If you are just…

Has anybody tried this with a Keurig? I usually sprinkle it on top, but like someone else mentioned-- nasty clumps of wet cinnamon on the bottom. I use one of those reusable cups in my Keurig.... good thoughts on mixing it with the grounds. It might be worth a try... I doubt it will make more of a mess than when I didn't…

I use kettlebells to supplement my running. They offer a pretty much full body workout and definitely work your core. There are a lot of websites that offer different moves that can be done using them. I believe there is a blog on MFP that addresses their use as well... if I can figure out how to find that, I will add the…

Good luck with your new kettlebell! I think you will be amazed at how strong you really are. You will definitely feel the swings with the heavier bell more challenging but with good form you should handle them just fine. I use a 25lb. kb for most everything these days. There are some things however that it is still too…

^Yup... I do this, when I don't pay attention to it, I feel like I just did a shoulder workout. Shake your arms out every now and again, and reset into a more relaxed form.

Most of my reading has stated that trying to change your natural gait and foot strike can cause more problems than it's worth. If you are naturally a mid foot striker, super- don't change it. If you were a heel striker, maybe not so super, but trying to change it too much might cause you more problems. I'm kind of in…

I add powdered peanut butter to some nasty tasting chocolate protein powder (to me, they ALL taste the same) and some 2% milk and a couple of ice cubes. No nasty protein powder taste. All you really taste is the peanut butter. And it doesn't add a ton of fat or calories so it's not too hard to fit the little extra into…

There is a bridge program for 5k to 10k that was designed as a follow up to C25K. I used the app from active for both. It worked, I made it from 5K to the 10K following the program. It's just as easy to stick with just longer time periods.
