I prefer my carbs to mainly come from veggies, sweet potatoes, and some fruits, mainly berries. I just don't feel great eating refined carbs so try to avoid them. Don't consider myself low carb but try to keep well under 100 grams a day which seems to keep me on track and within my weight loss goals.

This. For me, the weight loss comes much easier with less carbs and I just feel so much better. For others, it may not have an impact.

We just got back from our honeymoon cruise last weekend. There are lots of healthy choices like salad bars, omelette stations, etc. we made sure to use the ships gym to stay active and tried to make smart food choices during the day so we could have dessert and a cocktail at dinner. Depending on your ports, there may be…

Yes! Quite full! I eat one around 6 when driving in then nothing until lunch at noon as I'm just not hungry. It's packed full of veggies too (you can't taste them). It's not my ideal meal but in a pinch when I'm traveling, they're a great option for me.

I like the Perfect Food Brand bars sold at Costco. The almond butter flavor is great and at 305 calories, they are a good stand in for a regular breakfast. I often have a 2 hour commute into work and eat one in the car..

I get the salad (no dressing) with steak, grilled veggies, salsa and guacamole. I don't eat dairy and this keeps me full without feeling stuffed.

Great post! I echo this! I didn't monitor my carbs and relied on a calorie deficit to lose. It worked, however, When I began eating lower carb in addition to a calorie deficit, the weight loss was much easier. You will find what balance works for your body. Too many people focus just on meats and proteins when going low…

Most medical doctors have very little nutritional training while in med school. Perhaps talk to a registered dietician or get a second opinion..

I live in Washington State too. Are you near a Metropolitan Market, Whole Foods, or PCC? I've seen some of these products offered there..

Mainly black but sometimes a tablespoon of coconut cream on weekends for a treat.

Yes to this ^^^. So often it depends who's funding these films as to what message they want to get across.

Are you near a public library? Lots of workout DVDs there available for check out. Also, some free fitness apps to download if you have a smart phone that supports such things.

I love it in a Greek salad, tossed with grape tomatoes, cucumber, red onions, green pepper, some kalamata olives, and a splash of basalmic vinegar. Sometimes I will add in mixed greens too..

Found these at Costco in a 4 pack. Just Chia seeds, coconut milk, vanilla bean and cinnamon. If you can get over the gel texture, they're not bad and good when a sweet tooth kicks in.

Kale chips. Easy to make at home and you can use a variety of spices to your liking.
-
Add fresh spinach to whatever smoothie you make and it will give you heathy greens with no overpowering flavor. I love whey protein And coconut milk with a frozen banana, spinach and some almond butter.

The original poster was interested in learning more about clean eating. As a nutritionist, I see people every day become overwhelmed with all the choices available via book, Internet, etc. when starting something new. Hopefully the OP now has great ideas to pick from and will find what works for him/her.

I love coconut milk and use the coconut milk creamer (I think So Delicious is the brand) for my coffee as an occasional treat. It comes in plain, vanilla, and hazelnut flavors.

I just am starting my first spinning class this week so great to hear the positive comments. Very inspiring!

This is great and I would love to join! I'm 42 and recommitting to MFP! Between a new promotion at work, getting married in April, and my mother in law passing, I've let things slide. Haven't gained but just don't feel healthy and looking for motivation!

Yo - thanks! The poster wanted suggestions. I gave one. Now off to enjoy some sunshine!

I agree with everyone's love of cookbooks. I have hundreds, plus numerous nutrition text books and research journals remaining from school that are now available online. There's so much information out there however, that it can be overwhelming to someone looking for new changes. Often a smaller magazine is a good way to…

There's a great magazine called Clean Eating that has good recipes. Focuses on whole food ingredients and minimal processed items. Good luck!
-
It didn't work for me. My body doesn't respond well to beans, grains, etc. and I gained weight. I still love the vegan vegetable recipes but the protein substitutes like tempeh, soy, etc just weren't a good match for me. Good luck!

I just got a pitcher as a wedding gift that has a removable tube in the center. You can fill it with fruits, veggies, etc to infuse the water. Right now I have blueberries and cucumber in if. Also can be used to make iced tea and coffees!

Trader Joes now sells bags of riced cauliflower which is a huge timesaver. There are so many health befits to cauliflower. Vitamins, anti-carcinogenic properties, anti-inflammatory. I don't eat rice or grains so it's been a great alternative. We make it with curry and chicken and my husband who doesn't like cauliflower…

The riced cauliflower from Trader Joes. We eat paleo and it's a huge time saver after a log day. Use instead of rice for a much healthier and low carb alternative! Only $1.99 a bag too.

Jay Robb Whey powder is great. They only use grass fed cows for it. The chocolate and vanilla flavored are great. I use with almond milk, a frozen banana, a handful of spinach and sometimes almond butter.

Every body is going to react different. I would recommend reading Wheat Belly by Dr. William Davis as a good primer. I've been wheat and grain free for two years. Kept my weight off and my asthma and acid reflux disappeared. If I eat grains or wheat, they come back. To each their own, but there's research out there…

I mix eggs with veggies and lean protein into muffin tins and bake those. Great to bring to work and quickly reheated.
