  • Sorry haven't been around much. @LLduds good luck, if you've not already started @faithan84 welcome, nice time, as you run more it will come down, trust us @moyer566 good to see you getting over your cold @taeliesyn nice going on taking it easy and the 6 hour run. Shame that your body reacted so badly in the last couple of…
  • Good way to remain accountable though. Well done on luring another poor soul into the benefits of the runners high ;)
  • Another disappointing 5 miler tonight. Another solid recovery run paced session (10:11 pace) but HR still up in the 9:30 HM pace region. Clearly the vacation took a bigger toll than I anticipated. More training required, may get a light bike ride tomorrow night followed by a scouting trip around the duathlon course Friday.…
  • @KRPolo so sorry for your loss. You can run the 5k, you are unlikely to be able to race it. You may want to consider a run walk strategy ala C25k (4min run 1 min walk) and depending on how good you feel extend or shorten the run intervals or if you remember W5D3, just run slower. The important point to me is that you enjoy…
  • Got a 50 mile bike ride done today picking the car up from work, took a bit of a long route to get to it though. Pleased that I got it done, but it was hard work, managed to average just over 15mph so pleased with the solo effort.
  • Enjoy the 10 miler, you are going to fly on your HM in 2 weeks time, just take it easy in the lead up to it. The training is done, trust the training. And have fun.
  • To finish Have gained 22 lbs whilst on vacation mainly due to pastries at breakfast creme pat doughnuts 3 hot meals a day fruit smoothies during the day cocktails through the afternoon until bedtime Clearly all the ziplining, basketball, volleyball, dreadmilling and stationary biking was never going to undo all of the…
  • Clearly being jet lagged has meant deleting the majority of a post somehow. Oops
  • Sorry holiday got in the way, got back Wednesday. Spent the days before going on vacation trying to clear the decks at work so long days and no exercise. Made me a very dull boy :'( . Thanks for the nudge to post. So had a run around Central Park while away, I've had less company on UK races/ time trials (5k parkruns, HMs…
  • @samra338 just be careful not to overdo it. Hard sessions should be limited, hill repeats, tempo sessions one after the other is a recipe for over training. You know your limits and body, just be careful not to over do it. MM nice to see you recovering with an easy session !! @moyer566 good to see that you have family…
  • Different people cause different impacts on people. I was giving you advice on running but guess what I could take the same advice for me re cycling. Being "that guy" is all about quietening the mind and letting the body just get on with it. Well done, look forward to reading about your 10k run soon. :p
  • @Just_Ceci great work, you will be fine with the 10k if you keep putting this level of work in. Needed the car at work so got out for a run this morning, so much easier than the runs on Saturday and Sunday. It feels good loosening up again. Another solid z2 session but although it felt easier than Sunday, pace was slower…
  • But? If you want to go faster you can do the programme again, but most people get more success by running longer, doing the bridge to 10k programme. More of the same just longer sessions. This will build your aerobic base and allow you run a 5k faster. Good luck and look forward to reading you graduate. :)
  • Great report, well done MM, nice bit of bling and interesting to see that you rerun one your HMs. Not sure I am sufficiently inspired by the ones I have done so far to have another go at them. The closest is Eyam which was a very hilly road race. Thanks for letting us know how you got on.
  • With Ceci, it will be fine, don't get stressed about not doing the HM distance in training, you are training so that when you race for the first time your adrenaline will carry you the last quarter of the race. For comfort my longest run was 16.6miles for the FM, and I still got through 26.2 miles in 4:25 although the last…
  • Choose 1 and just stick with it, most people tend to stick to time but recognise that at the end of the programme you are unlikely to be running a 5k in 30 minutes or less. C25K is about getting you up and about and letting your body adapt to running. If you are slow as you suggest, I would tend to recommend doing the time…
  • QFT I had been running for 14 months, 7 months of running 20 out of 21 days, before my knee gave out. I went from running 35-50 miles a week to 44 miles in 7 weeks. Take it slow and easy, my personal view is that I pushed my body to hard too soon and suffered as a result. Getting back into the swing of things but running…
  • Well done. I knew you would succeed, and guess what you helped me to get off my less fat a**e an d commute a few days a week into work by bike, at least 28 miles every time I do it. Cheers and continue to have fun
  • QFT you can always go slower, don't ever let the brain rule the body. Have fun.
  • @Just_Ceci thanks, you are an inspiration to me, I would never of thought about bricks until I read your posts many months ago. I have been scared over the last 8 weeks of pushing too hard in case of breaking down. You and many others have kept me going and hoping that it would all be ok in the end. I stayed away because I…
  • Now the spectre of knee giving up and not being able to do my first marathon has passed, I have been able to get back to doing some running. This morning back to a 4 mile foundation run at Z2 intensity. Felt good although you can tell autumn has arrived, cold chill, grey skies and reduced visibility (ground mist). At least…
  • Well got out and did a trial duathlon, roughly the right distances. 3miles (5km), 13.2miles (20km), 2 miles(3.7km). So paces went at 10:07 min/mile for the first run, 16.7mph for the ride and 9:55 min/mile for the last run. Given it was the first run since the marathon, I tried to take it easy, so I know a duathlon try out…
  • At a weekly mileage of circa 16 miles you could do 8 miles but you are likely to end up injuring yourself, if done frequently, only because you will suddenly subject the body to a lot more stress. Normal guidelines is to make your long run no more than a third of your total mileage. So running 4 days at 4 miles or…
  • @taeliesyn I was planning to do 5km but will see, not to proud to bail on runs anymore. ;) Dugite looks like such a nice snake, I looked it up this morning pity that it is venomous. Nice going on the run, and doing some hill repeats. I'm out to do 28-40 miles of commuting on bike depending on what way I go home. Have fun…
  • What is your weekly mileage like?
  • @snha welcome to the madhouse @samra338 sometimes tech works, sometimes it does not. Good to see you get back to running, I know how that feels, just try and make it fun!! @moyer566 bad runs happen and sometimes it is just better to stop rather than force your way through them. But congratulations on working your way…
  • @samra338 Cheers
  • Simple commuting by bike for me, skipping the "possible run" this morning, quads still sore, although walking normally for the most part, may drop get out for a short easy run post the team dinner tonight. @Just_Ceci embrace the suck, you will feel better afterwards. :)
  • @moyer566 I echo Ceci's comments it's great to see how you think 3 miles is a short run. Well done on making the progression to a runner. The more you run the faster you will get for the time being @Just_Ceci looks like you are going to have to do some speed work to make the 10k under the hour comfortable enough to go…
  • Just resting and doing some light cycling, will commute in tomorrow and Friday. May try a gentle shake out run on Thursday morning. Other than that it is rest and foam rolling, which does help!! Thanks for the advice. Full on training will not start again until November, some light sessions between now and then around…
