  • Got out and did 30 mins, knee pain free but stiff (again) however pace at the faster end of Matt's Z2 but again went out with no pacing cues, just running based on feel. Breathing laboured but heart rate in the right zone. So might see how the next 24 hours go. Start rugby training as lead coach tomorrow, so will probably…
  • @LLduds good luck with your 10k today, just ensure that you enjoy it @DianaLovesCoffee enjoy your first 60 min run, don't sweat the distance use it as a marker for later runs. Again just enjoy it @moyer566 enjoy the renfaire, sounds like fun @taeliesyn in case I miss posting again before your HM on Sunday, enjoy and good…
  • I ran, I ran, I actually ran. Two weeks of sulking and biking but no running, but tonight I actually got out. The knee held up, slightly stiff but no pain. It might have healed. No target pace but fell at the slow end of Z2 and in the middle of Z1 (Matt Fitzgerald zones) Hope you are all doing well. I am so H A P P Y :D
  • First don't worry about a half mile jog, I reffed and coached rugby whilst doing C25K, just don't accelerate the programme. As for what to do on rest days, walk, cycle, swim, nothing, weight training ( just watch leg routines). The importance is that whatever you do shouldn't stress your main running muscles, they need to…
  • @taeliesyn you have opened up my vocab, I could "mongrel" around the HM and it would be better than breaking myself on the FM. That is an option open to me but not one I had considered. Cheers for the nudge
  • Have fun here, I look in on the LDR group, but it's more "serious" and there is not a daily update thread that is active. Have fun
  • Record the time for posterity but otherwise ignore it, you are trying to rebuild muscle memory, stamina and resilience. The time is irrelevant but is very hard to ignore. The first time I tried C25k I broke down due to constantly worrying about the time. The 2nd time through I took a much more relaxed attitude, it will be…
  • @taeliesyn still feeling sorry for myself, knee is still sore, the boys had a late night on Saturday visiting grandparents. They were not up in time for junior parkrun and by the time I summoned up the courage to go out it was hissing with rain. At least cycling to work is helping the CV, another 30 miles racked up today.…
  • Totally agree with making sure other road users have seen you. The other advantage to having lights on your body, is that the unusual movement also draws attention from other road users. We switch of from stable signals, hence why flashing lights work. I have flashers on the bike and a helmet mounted front and rear light,…
  • Just remember zombies don't like fast food!! Have a great weekend
  • For people worried about W5D3, just remember to drop the pace, if you have done the 14 runs before it, you will accomplish W5D3. Why do I know? I had all the same feelings you folks have. This is your brain trying to convince you this is dangerous, in reality going slower persuades it that it is safe (central governor…
  • @joolieb1 I have tailrunned at parkruns in the UK and honestly, I and the support team don't care how long it takes. We are there to help you be the best you can be. If you are truly worried about how slow you will be, just email them in advance. Parkrun is about participation not about speed. Just do it!! You are the only…
  • When I did some lifting I used Stronglifts 5x5. I stopped due to some neurological issues I had at the time. After that got sorted out I was running daily and never went back to it. If you intend to use a rowing machine look at the concept2 site, the UK site was more training orientated than the US site but that may have…
  • Personally, I'd set your first race distance a bit shorter, HM is a long way and can be unpleasant if not properly prepped for. Find a 10k race and go and enjoy it, an hour or so is challenging but fun if you are feeling great and not too bad if it is not your day. It's the way I went, then I signed up for a HM 4 months…
  • He is ok. He got some tough love after the accident. I put the bike back together and sent him out for a few laps of the estate. Great result he wanted to go out with mum the day after, no lasting damage. His latest issue is that he put the rear mech through the wheel, while I took him cross country, so waiting for a new…
  • Great running, I am envious, hoping to stretch the legs on Saturday morning. Have a 45 mile ride tomorrow 17 on the way in to work and a 28 mile long route home by the river
  • A great pair of posts that made me smile. Taeliesyn, as elsewhere, you are the man, an inspiration to us all. I enjoyed keeping tabs on you at the weekend. Doing it again, you are barking my man. LLDuds we all have our predisposed barriers, mine was cycling. As you get stronger and as you keep pushing at the boundaries you…
  • Some great stories coming through over the last few days, you are all excellent and inspiring. The Sunday run never happened, it got replaced with a 5 mile bike ride for the boys. The only downside was my eldest panicked on a cattle grid and the front wheel went between the grids. It's a lesson he won't forget in a hurry.…
  • Pretty standard at the end of C25k to not be able to do 5k in 30 mins or less. Me personally 5k took 33 mins, it took another 6 weeks to get 5k below 30 mins. To go faster you will need to run more, 4 days a week or b210k. As your fitness improves so will your speed. You are still at an early stage in your running, just…
  • Fantastico, you are now officially a nutter. Well done, been keeping an eye on you during the day. Hope the post race suffering is short
  • Personally I would go onto w10, just try to work out what was wrong. Pace, temperature, humidity, fuel etc and then see what you can do to offset. Rubbish runs happen, the key is to move on, good luck with whatever you choose to do
  • @taeliesyn looks like we are going to have a podium finisher, well done and a great start!!
  • @taeliesyn I'll be logging in to see how you are going when i get up, you'll be about 3-4 hours in. Good luck Thanks everyone for the best wishes, the hand is beginning to get some motion in it and at least I am off pain meds. @LLduds you need to do what you are comfortable with but although I love Strava, it can also lead…
  • @moyer566 Great to see you running on the 10k programme @taeliesyn Welcome to the loony bin, 12 hours on a 1/4mile track, at least support and motivation will be close at hand, what are you going to do to break the tedium of going around in circles? How many people are they going to try and fit on this oval? This sound…
  • @Just_Ceci way to go, a runner you will become yet. With your aerobice base from cycling, I think this will be relatively easy for you, hills and pacing will be your biggest threat, great job on the run. With you on that one, still not out running, I am now defering to Saturday
  • Can you have a conversation with someone at 5.5? If not then yes slow it down. At this stage you are developing time on feet, the pace is pretty much irrelevant providing you are running. It's hard especially if you are using something like Strava to log your runs, it inadvertently encourages you to go faster (PRs etc) but…
  • A green woodpecker in the middle of the city (2nd I've seen in 20+ years) and some red deer in the local deer park (hard to miss).
  • MM not sure what cadence I am cycling at, but I am trying to spin at the same rate I try to run at, 180 strides per minute (90 revolutions). Have no objective measure for it but keen to take an easier rather than more difficult gear, although finding that muscle memory if improving so inclines I though were difficult only…
  • Romy thanks for the heads up, I missed your input earlier, how I don't know, I must be getting senile as well as injured LLDuds and Diana, great work and progress, I will take solice in your successes :)
  • Well done everyone, there are some great stories here. I am so impressed with you guys.
