  • My husband had a friend that moved to Austria a year or so ago - she said the biggest difference from US to Europe was the lack of pre-made, packaged goods like diced tomatoes, beans, baking mixes, etc. Everything that's pre-packaged is the junk food. They have to make everything healthy from scratch all the time or eat…

  • Check out the vegetarian section of BudgetBytes.com . She's great! We're making the Black Bean and Roasted Salsa soup for dinner this week (veggie broth instead of chicken broth), then later we're doing the Weeknight Black Bean Chili (subbing vegetarian ground crumbles for the ground turkey). Lots of delicious pasta…
  • I teach high school! The struggle is real, guys.
  • I pack my lunch every night before I go to bed so that when I get up in the morning, I just throw in an ice pack and go. Breakfast is usually oats, yogurt, protein shake, or toast (fast!), sometimes cereal. I make sure I have a snack in my lunch box that I can eat between class periods (again...protein shake, yogurt, baby…
  • I have The Body Sculpting Bible for Women and I LOVE it. I have a set of dumbbells at home from 5 to 40lbs, so I can get a little more variety than just body weight exercises. I've followed the program multiple times and I love the way my body looks and feels after going through a 6-week program.
  • I get that sometimes too during my long runs. It happens when I tighten up, like I'm shrugging my shoulders up to my ears (usually accompanied by tight fists). Make sure you're keeping your shoulders down and back and that your back stays straight, not hunched forward or rounded. Let your arms swing naturally between hip…
  • Here's a great website for easy, delicious meals to make at home (with minimal equipment!) that are college-budget friendly: BudgetBytes.com
  • Girl, when I did a dry month (no alcohol for 4 weeks....aie!) I dropped more weight than I did exercising more or changing my diet. Depending on how much you drink and how often, cutting the alcohol will help enormously on its own. Make sure you're fueling yourself properly before AND after workouts so that your workouts…
  • I have to limit myself with wine for a few reasons: I have a hard time controlling myself around an open bottle at home, and I don't like cheap wines. When going out, I like to have a drink while everyone else has a drink, but I can get through two glasses of wine while my friends nurse one beer or cocktail (pansies). When…
  • Try doing a pre-packed or pre-planned breakfast the night before so that you don't show up at breakfast time with no plan and nosh on everything you want.
  • If you hit the 1950 but have some left over because of exercise, you don't have to eat those calories back. If you're under 1950 even before exercise, that's okay (as long as you're not, like, 800 calories below that). Try incorporating a protein shake or some yogurt with your healthy snacks if you really want to add in…
  • I drink 4 things: water (LOTS, daily), OJ (3-ish mornings a week), coffee (weekends only), and wine (asserting 5th amendment rights).
  • I'm a pescetarian, so mostly vegetarian but with fish/seafood a few times a week. I do it because my body doesn't process meat very well; it makes me sluggish, "blocked up", interrupts my sleep if I eat it late in the day... But I LOVE sausage!!! My grandmother was Polish and we grew up in Chicago, so Polish sausage,…
  • OMG. I have a 12 mile run next weekend....I WILL BE EATING THIS AFTER.
  • I did my first half-marathon with Team in Training with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The training program is great and the coaches are so supportive and spectacular. I'm currently training for my 6th half-marathon (my 4th with TNT) and my husband has registered as well. This will be his first! I've got him running…
  • I love The Body Sculpting Bible for Women. There are programs for minimal/no equipment at home, for a small-ish gym (like what you've described), and for a really well-equipped gym, plus different programs for your different goals (toning vs. power vs. body-building). If you're super interested/invested, I would hire a…
  • If you invest in a set of 5-10lb dumbbells, you can do a lot of exercises in the safety of your own home. I'll link you to a few of my favorites! (You need some weights for this one) http://www.fitnessmagazine.com/workout/real-plans/beach-body-circuit-workout/ (No equipment needed for the Jump for Joy! one. I love it!…
  • When I went vegetarian, I stopped going to fast food places out of necessity (because very few drive-thru spots offer vegetarian options!). When I did that, I also realized that I had stopped eating a lot of fried foods and white potatoes because what comes as a side dish with most meat dishes at fast-food chains and in…
  • I said no to more than one bevvie last night, and today I'm saying no to a dirty house! lol.
  • BudgetBytes.com Do it now, thank me later.
  • I like the Tazo Zen blend, or the Bigelow green tea with mint. I LOVE mint green tea! Refreshing and lovely when chilled, relaxing and comforting when hot.
  • Squats and lunges, lunges and squats. Add strength training into your routine and you'll see those babies shape up wonderfully :) Keeping a clean diet is great, cardio is great, but nothing changes the shape of my body like strength training. The great thing about working out your legs is that you don't need a gym…

  • Check out budgetbytes.com and check the vegan/vegetarian section. She has AWESOME recipes that are easy, delicious, and a lot of them are full of great proteins. I also like the Weeknight Black Bean Chili, but I made it with crumbled tofu instead of ground turkey. I do eat fish, but my vegetarian proteins of choice are…
  • I only get super hungry on the beach when I don't drink enough water/hydrate well enough. Being out in the sun all day, playing in the water, and getting all schvitzy can leave you dehydrated. I alternate water and Powerade, bring snacks and a huge umbrella, and I'm set for the day :)

  • Not buying a new bathing suit for vacation because the old ones looks pretty good :)
  • Look up some fun HIIT workouts - High Intensity Interval Training. They combine cardio and strength training in, you guessed it, intense bursts.

  • I LOVE peanut butter! I can't keep it in the house, though, because I have the same problem. Creamy4LYFE.
  • I make myself some green tea or drink a lot of water. A lot of times, dehydration will make you feel like you're hungry.
  • Mine is a shared office space for my husband and a gym for me. I've got a three-tier weight rack with dumbbells from 5lbs to 40lbs, an adjustable weight bench, an aerobic stepper (the green one with purple feet :) ), and a Swiss ball. I also bought a few full-length mirrors at Wal-Mart to check for form (the cheapy $5…
