Swam on Saturday but forget what I did except I was in the pool for an hour. Was at work today (UK holiday) so printed out a free pass for the City branch of my gym - they told me on the phone that it was a 20m pool so I wanted to check it out to see if it was worth upgrading my membership to include this branch (If I…

Did swim yesterday - just over 2km (same set as Wednesday). Not sure what was going on as one minute the pool was quietish with the normal group of swimmers and all of a sudden a ton of other people descending for 15 minutes of chaos. Still managed to finish my swim though. No swimming today - had to get into the office…

I am a Londoner - live in central NW London (zone 2 of the tubes for those who know). Swim in a private gym (Nuffield) in Willesden which is only 20m long. The local public pool is 25m long, but a month's pass to that costs the same as my private gym and I get nicer facilities and free towels where I am :) Not having to…

45 mins this morning. Swam this morning – 400m warm up, 100m front kicks, 100m back kicks, 400m crawl, 2 x 100m breast, back, crawl sprints, 400m crawl, followed by a 200m mix cool down.

Back in the pool after a lovely weekend on the UK's Norfolk coast - we were right on the sea but I didn't swim. This morning was a short 30 min - 400m crawl warm up. 2 x 100m sprints breast, back, crawl then another 300m crawl cool down. Felt good as always to be in the water.

Swam 2.32 km in 45 mins this morning - felt good. Off for a long weekend in the countryside tomorrow so no swimming until Tuesday now.

Talking with some other ladies in the changing rooms afterwards it seemed that things changed at the club recently with a new head coach as none of them had to trial - they just turned up, signed up and were in. Thinking about it I probably won't go back to them - I just want to train in a group and get better at my own…

And what is more annoying is that the set I did (100m on 2.15) was what was asked of me. I can do 20x100 on 2mins as that is my 2km relaxed pace which I swim most mornings!!! So annoyed, but then I was trying out for a squad in a London Borough where appox. 300,000 people live...

Gutted - didn't make the squad - swear, swear and swear Email back said: "You was doing great in the whole session, however due to high number of swimmers wanting to join our program, we cannot offer you a place in Masters Squad, at the moment. Currently our slower lanes reached maximum capacity with existing members, but…

I agree with the above - swimming is the way to go to avoid joint stress and working more crawl into your routine will do wonders for you in the long-term, but build up slowly. Don't do a step class - it's really bad on the knees so avoid it. Walking is great and the old advice of taking the stairs instead of the escalator…

Spent this morning trying a new mix-it-up routine - 120m warm-up, 100m front kicks, 100m back kicks, 260 various stroke drills, 4 x 100m sprints, 100m breast, 100m back, 400m crawl slowing to a cool-down pace. Made a nice change from just a steady crawl for 2km.

Good morning. Rest day yesterday after the masters squad trial. This morning I decided to focus on drills, as I realised at the trial that my drill work is not good and my legs do nothing when I swim. So, just did 1km in very slow drills over 30 mins. Will need to do the same a couple of times a week to get my legs…

Well, just back from the trial which I enjoyed a lot more than I thought I would. Five of us were trialling tonight, but one got pulled almost immediately as not quite up to it (the coach recommended more lessons). Started with 100m anything, 2 x 200m crawl, 1 IM of 1 length per stroke (100m total) then 15 x 100 m crawl…

Oh Bruce - that's not good. Definately need to rest that shoulder. Talking of shoulders, mine was a bit sore last night so today I decided to slow down my stroke and really focus on this - funny thing was though that even though I thought I was going much slower, I still swam 2km in my normal 40mins.

Another "take it easy morning" 8 lengths crawl (half flip turns, half open) one length breast, one length back and repeat. 2km and 40 metres in 43 mins. What was best though is that the pool was lovely and quiet. There were only three of us swimming at any one time so we had a lane each :)
-
Rome - you lucky thing - I only managed 24 hours there with work once but did spend the evening walking round. Must go back. Swam this morning 2.1km and tried to do more flip turns, but ended up being lazy and reverted back to open ones.

2km swum yesterday, rest day today as had some arm pain (not sure if its swimming or RSI or a bit of both). Juliet - I don't use the paddles for fly. The instructor I had last year for a couple of lessons recommended not to use the paddles until I am pretty my stroke is right as using them with an imperfect stroke would…

Forgot to post earlier but did 3km this morning. 1km free, 1km with fins doing a mix of things, 500m with paddles then the final 500m in sprints in and flip turns. Love using the fins for fly - it means that instead of just going as fast as i can to get to the end so I can rest, I was actually able to slow right down and…

All those sets are sooo impressive. I need to get a water watch as I have no idea how fast sprints are - I just go by looking at the wall clock which doesn't have seconds!! Good to hear its not serious Mac and hope it clears up. Did my usual Saturday attempt to swim a mile in 30 mins - I thought I was there but no, clock…

Yeah - I had an hour this morning to swim (instead of 45 mins). I used fins for the first time and they are good! They sure work muscles (mainly glutes) that I know I don't normally engage.... Also enabled me to do 2 lengths fly non-stop which was brilliant. Will definitely be incorporating these into a couple of swims a…

Rest day yesterday.... This morning I wasn't feeling it so took it slow but still did 2km :)
-
Thanks Aquatic - part of the trial is being competent in the other strokes as well. I can only do one length of fly so am petrified of that portion of it!

Swimming was my sport as a child - I spent everyday in the pool and was picked for the council swim team at 12/13 but left as I didn't like the coach. My secondary school didn't have swimming on the curriculum so I stopped swimming, only returning to the pool occasionally. I hated swimming freestyle but loved competing in…

Thanks everyone. No rest for me - swam 2.5km yesterday (mainly drills) and another 2km this morning.
-
Did my 5km charity swim this morning - 1 hour and 40 minutes - bang on target so am very pleased with that.
-
I am looking forward to it for the coaching you get - hopefully they will be able to squeeze me in somewhere!
-
Nothing for me today. Having a rest day before my charity 5km swim tomorrow.
-
Nice easy swim this morning - 2km in 40 mins.

Oh my - I am off here for a couple of months and missed 294 updates!! Good to see everyone is still here. I am still swimming in the morning before work, but shorter swims as busy season means I have to be in work a little earlier than normal. Making the times up at the weekend though.
