Ah, trackstands. Haven't bothered learning this one yet just due to not wanting to bother removing clipless pedals long enough to get it down! (Seems dumb to try to learn this clipped in, heh)

I find this thread very interesting in that the responses from females is all over the place, some even completely siding with the OPs POV. So much for stereotypes!! :)

Ah, I see you took Cynicism 101 as well, eh? :)

I love grilled peppers and slices of onion. Eggplant works well too. But the best is zucchini. Slice some up just like those quarter sliced "spear" pickles. Then brush some olive oil and fresh pressed garlic on the outside, with a little salt too. Grill em, just take care not to overcook them. Usually takes only 3-6…

It gets better. Once your body is used to eating less each meal, you won't feel quite as hungry as you used to. For example, a weakness of mine is pizza. I could eat 4-5 slices with a beer or two no problem in the past and then I would feel "full." But after going on MFP for a couple months, I find that 1-2 slices with…

^^^ Now that sounds good!! Also, many good ideas in this thread. Never thought to use sour cream as a base, but I can see how that could work! Yogurt too. I see how both would work towards making something like a Ranch style dressing. Speaking of Ranch, I use that to replace Mayonnaise in things like sandwiches and tuna.…

I enjoyed reading TheBigYin's report too :)

Tonya, I agree it is tough getting the will needed to make a long lasting or even permanent change. Most people here are dealing with the same kinds of issue. I agree with another poster that said to just get in the habit of at least logging faithfully and accurately. Then eventually move on to restricting calories. This…

Sometimes a second glass of dark red wine will kickstart a headache. Don't know why.

WHY do we feel some kind of psychological pressure to roll through? As I very slowly rolled through a deserted intersection with a stop sign the other day, I thought back to this thread with a tiny twinge of guilt added (hah). It is not a big deal to unclip and put a foot down for a second or two. Is it?? Does it feel…

I often use MapMyRide and the values it gives for burn aren't too far off from MFP's for me. It syncs to MFP so the data MFP is using for my account is from MapMyRide. I don't know if MapMyRide just uses average speed for an entire route or measures the splits. Also don't know if it includes calculations on climbing and…

Good read, thanks for the link. :)

6'2" and 145lbs? You gotta make him a few sandwiches! :)

This is an interesting thread. For me, I was never overweight as a child. But I was an active kid. Only after finishing college and working at a desk all day did my weight go up...a little in my 30's and a lot more in my 40s putting me about 50-60lbs over. And, the pressures of work and raising kids cut out a lot of…

Interesting video. I'm usually sympathetic to the cyclists POV, but this guy ignored a yield sign (0:36) that lead to that near collision. Also, the truck that moved in his lane to make a left had to get over for a left turn too....the cyclist should have had some more awareness of need for large vehicles that might want…

I obey them all, except when all alone when there is just me and a stop sign and high visibility exists to the extent that no car could possibly be around. Even then, I go through it slow. Guess I'm trying to maintain good habits for my kids. My oldest comes with me on some back road rides and I want him to learn;…

Yeah, maybe the seat is too high and too far back, and her body is too stretched out so there is too much pressure on the upper joints. Another thing to try even when you are comfortable is put some weight on the pedals and sit back with hand on the top of the bars to get some relief as you a riding. Sit up and back…

I have to agree on the strap tightness. What little pain I had was due to the lower straps being too tight as well. But it wasn't evident until I rode for a couple hours.

KJ, thanks for the tip about keeping the thumbs under the bar. Again, that is something I just would not think to do coming from a road-biking background. If the ground "falls away" from you and you lose contact the the bars...bad :frown: So far, I'm happy with the Moto, but it only has about a dozen miles on it from…

Ah, thanks BusyRae. So going down into the ditch, it sounds like I was "doing it right" for the most part. And going up a short hump I was doing it all wrong then! :embarassed: Haha, no wonder I messed up and bashed the knee! OK, so sit tight, and plan way ahead to get into a low or granny gear and keep my body…

Hey I also use MTB shoes and spd pedals and cleats as well on the road bike right now. The shoes are Pearl Izumis. I had some pain in the little toes a few times, but just adjusting the strap tension on the toes end and firming up the straps near the ankle cleared it up completely. My feet are probably a little wide haha.…

There is a set or short hills I like to do sometimes on my road bike. The sides of the road pass through a very wet and swampy area loaded with hungry clouds of these very creatures that Satan himself must have devised... If I am going more than 12mph up the little hills, then they can't seem to alight on my neck and legs.…

Jennilyn76, good job! Nice photo in the old jeans. Wow!

So after reading these good suggestions, I think I am going to avoid calling animal control for at least one more incident, should it occur. If the dog comes at me on the climb, I am going to get off the bike straight off, and use it as a shield again. Will shout to the owners if they are outside. If that works, and if…

Well, I live in a rural area. If there are leash laws they aren't enforced, that is for sure! Guess the police don't care either. Sillygoosie, you have given me what may be a good idea. Every time this happens, I am also obviously looking to see if the owners are in their yard, but they haven't come outside at all. Too…

Hah...after you got up, I hope you said, "I meant to do that!"

Ouch, @sillygoosie, that looks painful. :(

Having read the thread sofar, I think it is just what Dakotababy said! Dude, just quietly and firmly stick with the program. If that means skipping some family meals out while everyone is scarfing down BBQ and stuff, then go there! Your wife will get used to it, and it is only the first short phase where you can't eat…

If you work at an office, maybe consider leaving a bike at work and riding for a while @lunch? (One guy I see uses a folding bike at work...keeps it right next to him desk.) Or if at home, maybe get up 30 min early to ride before the daily activities take over. :) Just make it a regular thing that you "have to do." Leaving…

You can't do much physical setback in only four days. At most, you might gain a couple pounds once things settle down. Sounds to me like more mental disappointment. Pretend it never happened and go from there. If I may also say that you have made great progress :)
