Haha - thanks for the mental "tip!"

Any update M1 since you changed to cloth rim tape?

nice shots! I've never seen that purple coral fungus before. It does have a rather striking appearance.

Well, I got the green light to finally get something decent to replace my old reliable, but ancient steel Fuji road bike, circa 1983. After many test rides, I settled on the following, a carbon Cdale Synapse with mostly a 105 groupset. This is my first modern road bike! Picked it up late last week from a nice LBS. Got some…

Well, I got to hand it to you, all the extra weight for the weapons would drive me crazy, but if it works for where you are then more power to you! Also, if you even happen to need it for defense or survival then I think the payoff is obviously going to be worth the cost. Around where I am, the main wilderness animals that…

Hah, I noticed the same issue that ntnuck describes. On the seat bag I have, there is a 1" wide velcro strap that wraps around the seatpost. On mine, there is an excess amount of strap that just sticks out a bit...and this is the part of the velcro that contains the little micro-hook things. Even though I never felt it, it…

Must be heavy all that stuff plus a full size rifle, pistol, and extra magazines. What does your pack typically weight? I took bear spray a couple times on long MTB rides and even then I didn't like the extra bulkiness and weight of the can in addition to my other essentials :)

I've never thought of optionally using the second bottle for non-drink stuff! I'll have to try that if I can figure out some free refill spots on the routes I use.

Dropped 60 last year and I think the best advice was indeed in that sexypants link. The key is really maintaining a sustained deficit. As easy as MFP makes it to track it, it does take willpower to resist overeating all the time. Just like on any diet. I think food choices matter some in that you can use these to somewhat…

Agreed, I am much the same way, having a couple Coke Zeros or the like each day.

^^ I like the blur effect in that one cowbellsandcoffee

On the road, I have a small saddlebag with: 1 spare tube 1 tiny patch kit 1 compact bike multi-tool kit (all the basics) 1 KMC Missing Link (needed it once when chain broke) 1 small energy bar or granola bar 1 cell phone (sometimes this goes in jersey pocket) 1 pair of tire levers 1 Lithium Ion battery pack for headlight…

Hang in there man, I hope you feel a little better after some rest. As amiller said, it is good that there is measurable improvement.

Cranking out 700W until "toasted!" I thought this was kind of interesting... Toasted Vid

Good luck, I hope it works as well for you as it did for me.

IMO, go for the cloth tape. Measure the inner trough of the rim, it should be wide enough to cover that completely.

I'd join in, but my rides varies a lot each week and is inversely proportions to workload and family stuff. So I'd feel bad if the TDF coincided with a bad week (or three) for me, from a time in the saddle perspective. Thanks for the heads up though!

It took my mind & body a month or two to get used to a deficit. I think it just takes time. And like so many have pointed out, eating more protein and things that are filling by low-cal like veggies and salads (without much dressings, butter, oils) is also helpful.
-
Thanks for the recommendations - I plan to try some of these ideas. I do eat beforehand, and often have a small 100 cal energy bar in the middle of these rides. I think it is low electrolytes as the feeling is more like muscle cramping and an overall slowdown. Since I'm drinking mostly just water, I think I am simply…

From my group ride early this morning in the local forest -- it was a really great day

^^ "Aww" :)

Real nice way to start the day, Jackson! Where is this? Doesn't look dissimilar to the terrain around my area.
-
That is a good point, pyrowill. I wasn't thinking of it like that, I was just thinking I wanted one entry for all my commute time in one file. But that is an argument for breaking it up.

Yeah, lots of salt in those noodles and the soup. Skip the seasoning packet on the noodles which will help some. The sandwich and fruit is good. Can you talk with your Dad and ask him to buy some more healthy things you want to include? Even a jar of peanut butter and wheat sandwich bread is good for you. Some eggs, mild,…

What are the typical foods that are available to you? Keep in mind that while more wholesome foods are better for your health, and can make weight loss easier, the ultimate thing is calories. People have lost weight mostly eating things like twinkies in one extreme example:cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/11/08/twinkie.diet.professor/

^^ Geez.

Bras are the secret, huh? I use the same soft strap Garmin and once the wind starts flapping my jersey against it, it goes bonkers. My max HR is around 174, and on windy days or long downhills I have seen the Garmin spike up to 220 (I wish!). Wetting it, washing it, rinsing it in distilled water, electrode gels, Static…

Well, just to report back after my test today, it looks like both GC and Strava show the ride with the long pause removed for most of the calculated values. So why did I think this was a problem? After some more research, I think I may have incorrectly flagged a ride with a long pause in it on Strava as a trainer ride. If…

Thanks veloman; I do have auto pause active, but this pause is really long! So I have to power it down for it. Maybe it was Strava messing things up as ntnuck thought. But I guess I'll find out soon.
