  • Congrats Liza! I have never organized a race but I have attended a lot. Count on me as a resource.:flowerforyou: Will you have to find race sponsors? Of course, you'll want to have a free t-shirt for all of the racers.
  • It is great to see you today:flowerforyou: Glad you will be getting better soon.
  • The heart rate monitor belt is not too bad. If you want a heart rate monitor, you'll need the 305 or the 405. The 205 and the 305 are pretty big but not uncomfortable at all. If you want something small that looks like a "normal" watch, go with the 405. The 205/305 have control buttons on the side that you have to push.…
  • Good morning:flowerforyou: Today's goal was speedwork: 1 slow mile to warm up (check!) 2x1600 meters @8:35 (9:01:ohwell: , 9:33:sick: ) 800 meter jogs between (check!) 1 slow mile to cool down (check!) Funny aside: I was pretty groggy this morning and thought I put my contact lenses in the wrong eyes. Actually, I had been…
  • There are a couple of different models. The Forerunner 205/305/405 do not have shoe pods. The wristwatch receives a signal via satellite. The hr monitor for the 305 has a chest strap.
  • Never heard of it. Let us know how it goes. Improving running times definitely gets my attention.
  • I LOVE my Garmin Forerunner 205. We've been together for about a year now. I am not sure how I ever ran without her. I named her Kelly. You decide when/if you want to hear beeps. It can be set to beep at a certain distance, time, or pace. If you get the 305 with the hr monitor, it will beep at a certain heart…
  • Good Monday morning:flowerforyou: A much needed rest day for me. Had a very brisk walk and did some pilates(trying something new). Enjoy the day -Kechie.
  • Thanks for sharing your story:flowerforyou: You are inspiring!
  • Way to go!:drinker: Very good time too!:flowerforyou:
  • Isn't that an awesome feeling! I still remember the first time I ran 6 miles. I came home, jumped into my car, and drove the route I had just run. Good for you:heart:
  • It is pretty tricky when you eat a very whole food diet. I have learned to "drink" some of those calories. It is pretty easy to drink 500 calories or more when you add some chocolate milk (great for recovery)and gatorade. To add to the challenge, I am not very hungry when I burn over 700 calories in one run. So I'll just…
  • Good morning:flowerforyou: 7 HOT, humid miles for me this morning. Enjoy the day -Kechie.
  • Good luck! Can't wait to hear how it goes.
  • You are so smart to do hill training. Hills are speed work in disguise. I live in a very hilly neighborhood. Every run is hilly for me. The hills will make you stronger and faster. Plus, at races I always look forward to passing people on the hills. For anyone interested in adding some hill workouts, be sure to have good…
  • Welcome Lori :flowerforyou: I look forward to hearing more of your story. I am training for a half in November too. -Kechie.
  • Becky, I wonder if you fat fingered an entry. I entered 29 minutes for a 5k race, training for a 5K race and a half marathon and it gave me nothing close to 21 minutes. I always finish races faster than the predicted times. How much faster depends on the course, nutrition, hydration - even the weather can play a role on…
  • Happy Friday:flowerforyou: 6 miles at an easy pace for me today. 96% humidity! A tip on hydration: To tell if you are taking in enough fluids on your run, weigh yourself naked before and after an hour run. The idea is that if you lose weight, you need to drink a little more during your run. If you gain weight, you are…
  • I would rest. I used to skip rest days b/c I love to run so much until I read that you are actually benefitting from running on your rest days. Your body needs rest days to repair all of the little tears in your muscles and gets stronger on your rest days. Plus, there was another article about how your shoes need a…
  • Good job Julie! I am so proud of you for getting out there today.:flowerforyou: I too get a little nervous before what I know will be a very hard tempo run. One thing that works great for me mentally is to tell myself "I am training this hard because (fill in the blank)". For me, I want to pr my next half marathon. Next, I…
  • I'm thinking the heat was a factor. The only time I get really sick to my stomach is when I push myself waaay to hard on a tempo run. When I first started doing tempo runs, I nicknamed them vomit runs. I never actually threw up but I felt very close. If the weather is hotter than you are used to, definitely slow your pace…
  • My LG refrigerator has an awesome filter on it so I love the water from the fridge door. Fyi: Bottled water is not regulated because it is not considered "food". Here in the US only about 95% of water bottles are recycled. If you have young kids, be sure they are getting flouridated water. Their growing teeth need it.…
  • After seeing everyone's posts, I would definitely recommend finding out your frame size. Your doctor can help you figure it out. I have a small frame. Does anyone know if the old wrapping your thumb and middle finger around your wrist trick is accurate for determining your frame size?
  • Hi there:flowerforyou: Congrats on your loss. 17 pounds! You're doing great. I am your height. Check out the photo of me and my daughter crossing the finish line in my profile. That is what I look like at 150-155. You can do it! -Kechie.
  • Me too Jess! I LOVE the Jelly Belly Sport Jelly Beans.:drinker:
  • This is an excellent idea. I used to do it with my water bottles before I got a Nathan handheld. The problem for me was ANTS. If I put Gatorade in my water bottle or took a bottle of Gatorade with me, it would be covered with ants when I came back to get it. It never crossed my mind to hide my water bottles. I left them in…
  • Hi Shuntae! Congratulations on running for over 90 minutes.:drinker: I think jelly beans and water would be a great substitute for Gatorade if you don't need sodium. Gatorade has a lot of sodium. I am not sure if the jelly beans have sodium. When I run for 2 hours, I eat the jelly beans on the run and I drink Gatorade and…
  • Good morning:flowerforyou: 5 mile tempo run for me this a.m. The goal was: 1 slow mile to warm up (check!) 3 miles @ 9:06 (8:57:drinker: , 9:22:ohwell: , 9:39:sick: ) 1 slow mile to cool down (check) It was cooler outside this morning with 98% humidity. Can't wait to hear what everyone is up to today -Kechie.
  • Good Monday morning:flowerforyou: I am resting today. Sherry it is great to see you! Get well soon.:flowerforyou:
  • GG, stopping and walking is acceptable. If you are moving, you are improving. In my opinion, times of stress are the perfect times to get some exercise and be active. I would recommend either taking a brisk 30 minute walk every day instead or continue running at a slower pace. Walk breaks are a good thing when you need…
