Ok, so the conversation reverted to normal at the bottom of page 2, but there was definitely signs of improvement!

One wonders which aspect of the famous greek pederasty appeals!

So, for weeks I feel as though I've been banging my head against a brick wall, challenging anti-women content on MFP. It was with a now familiar weary attitude that I challenged the use of the word "rape" in the thread, "What's the first song on your Weight Training Playlist?" from the Gaining Weight forum. So imagine my…

Are you female? Why do you wish to get your weight down so low?
-
Thanks for posting alereck, that's just the inspiration I needed to read this morning!
-
Thanks Edgar, it was a relatively small goal compared with some of those with amazing success stories.
-
Those of you using the word rape casually as a metaphor, I'd be interested to know why you feel comfortable doing so. I was wondering why you might and had a quick Google, and found a write-up of a report from earlier this year on it's use on Twitter. It's taken from the Telegraph (not my usual choice of newspaper!) in an…

Is that a typo, or just a stunning turn of phrase you have there?
-
That's an impressive month's progress! What has made the difference do you think?
-
You appear to be getting shorter. Seriously, you're definitely looking slimmer - look at that tummy!
-
I think there's definitely a difference in your back and tummy.
-
Learning about the arched back was a revelation to me (in one of those "how to lift more" videos on YouTube). I save it for the last few lifts when I'm starting to weaken.

Your husband is a parent now, he needs to learn how to cook. That would give you some time to go to the gym on the way home. You could get up early three times a week. You could squish two thirds of your work outs in to the weekend. But as a previous poster said, I don't want to invalidate just how busy your life sounds.…

Thanks once again, really good of you to take the time to educate me

We seem to be in a similar position jrline. I too am coming to the end of weight loss. I have been eating at a serious deficit for months and am in love with cardio classes at the gym. But I want to get strong and I want to stop losing weight now. I've started Stronglifts 5x5 but whilst still eating at a deficit and…
-
Thank you for replying Katro, rest assured that the 5x5 website was my first port of call  . Look at that photo of Arnie on your link - the bar's nearer his clavicle than his nipples isn't it? That's what I've seen elsewhere, adding to my uncertainty.
-
Are you following a programme? If not, what guidelines are you following? ETA: Have you researched some of the more popular programmes on MFP. The two I see most usually mentioned is Stronglifts 5x5 and NROLFW (New rules of lifting for women, but apparently men can lift too, so the book is equally applicable).

It's depressing. Despite being against the community guidelines it's just accepted. I have reported posts for discriminating and offensive comments and images, and they are just left standing. In fact, don't get me started on the images that are accepted here.

9st 7lb was my original goal, it seemed pretty unattainable that it didn't really matter at the start! After a few weeks, losing 2lb per week, I thought that 9st 5 or 9st 2 would be attainable, so I changed my goal. By the time I hit 10st I realised that my goals were changing from weight-loss to strength and fitness. So I…

Ok, update. I had my short consultation with the PT this morning. He gave me some tips for improving my form on the bench press and squat (all we had time for). I'm going to research this and see if it agrees with other advice out there. He gave me some advice on nutrition and the best thing was he did some stretches on me…

I did have to step away from that thread  As I was walking to the gym this evening I was wondering, is it because I just tend to frequent women-orientated, lefty-liberal forums that I have a bit of a skewed impression of the web? Are most general interest websites, such as MFP, so misogyny-friendly?
-
I smile and say thank you. Saying that, I've not had anyone gush, which I can imagine is a bit uncomfortable.

I don't think you are doing anything wrong - you eat sensibly and don't sound bloated. You certainly don't sound as though you have a layer of fat hiding your abs. You exercise to maintain healthy heart and lungs. It all sounds good. The next step is perhaps to build your muscles, so that there's more to see. The most…

Yes to drinking water - it's easy to misread thirst as hunger. Yes to planning your snacks - so you get the treat without damaging your weight loss goal. It sounds as though you could be eating out of boredom or habit. I do this. Acknowledge it and decide to do something different. I find the gym a very good distraction,…

What has helped me is believing that there isn't a single end point. There's just lots of milestones. I've stopped losing at 9st 7lb and am going to make strength and a toned look my priority. I envisage I'll cut again in perhaps 4 or 6 months time to get down to 9st 2lb.

I would simply start by setting a calorie goal, recording your food and exercise in the diary and see how you go. Get 3 or 4 pals on your Friends list who have similar statistics as you, similar goals and are at a similar stage or bit ahead of you. I have really enjoyed this "journey", its unexpected directions and the…

You sound a bit down on yourself in your post when it's so full of your achievements! I'm sure your friends and family are right in some part, but remember they'll also have their own reasons and motivations for what they see and say. At your age you don't us to tell you how to look after your skin - sun block, drink…
-
Hi Raspberry, I'm new too. Did you do any stretches before and after? That adds on time to my workout.
-
Thanks for your post calliope, it really helps to know I'm not the only one experiencing this kind of thing. I'll let you all know how I get on on Wednesday.

Try gym 2 for a couple of months and then reassess. (It sounds lovely though with a pool and sauna).
