A cup of frozen yogurt once in a while kills my cravings for the next week (they're so awesome!) Or on a smaller and more common basis, a squirt of whipped cream straight to the mouth is only ~15 calories and deliciously naughty In a totally normal food-a-holic way.

Once you make it a routine, your body should become more accustomed to perking up (and staying up) that early You will probably notice yourself getting sleepy earlier in the evening....

That response is pretty nuts from the nutritionist, but theoretically he or she is an expert, so I can't argue. The workouts that you do - are they mostly weight lifting? I have been dieting at 1200 net calories (1400-1500 consumed, 200-300 exercised) and I originally lost weight and am now stabilizing at this weight - but…

Your response gives me the rage. 1200 is suitable for certain sedentary people. 16% is large when you're talking money; however when you're already changing your diet plans by a 29.4% decrease (1200 cal plan for 1lb/week fat loss), a flex of 16% still keeps you far below your goal

Congratulations - your determination shows, literally. You have completely transformed your body into how you want it to be, which I very much respect!

^ Bad advice. Fat is healthy, IN MODERATION. 3 egg yolks is too much. I usually mix 1 egg with 1 egg white for my morning omelettes when I don't have chicken sausage to add to it. 2 egg yolks is just unnecessary in terms of fat intake to curb hunger, and 3 is just excessive. That is, unless you're extremely active.

I almost always eat 1500-1800 calories a day but exercise off 200-350 of them, which keeps me at my 1200-1400 cal/day goal. My tips are filling, high-protein egg white breakfasts (I add chicken sausage and spinach) that keep me from snacking before lunch. Then, my lunch, snack, and dinner are all within 2.5 hours of each…

My worst thing: I love cheese bread, and I used to make it all the time - I'm talking almost every day for a week out of the month. Biggest mental change: I now look at the calories in my food and think, is that worth needing to work out for an hour to make up for? the answer is usually NAHHH. I can eat that other thing…

When I'm at home I only do weights and stretches. I use one 3lbm 1 5lb, and two 8lb dumbells and one of those stretchy rope cord string things. What I do at home is all about feeling good and getting some blood flow going. I do the real weight lifting and cardio in the gym. I spend about 45 minutes in total. Most of this…

This too ^ I injured myself recently from muscle imbalance.

When you're exercising, you're (A) burning more calories, and (B) you are breaking down a lot of muscle that needs to be rebuilt. (A) I personally eat back my exercise diet so as to not starve my body from its needs. 1200 calories is already at the very bottom of what you should consume in a diet. (B) Be sure that you're…

Best part of this whole thread

This. When my parents went on a diet (I was in middle school), we ended up eating no pasta/rice with dinner and just meat/veggies instead. Turns out, I didn't miss the carbs at all. Calories are from portions, and nutrition is from what you're eating. Everyone, diet or not, should eat things that are good for them. Dieters…

Glad you broke up with him I wonder how fat HE is now.

I use my old sports shirts from High School and College - they're all plain cotton Ts. I use spandex ankle pants for my bottoms, or old volleyball spandex (which are, admittedly, too short out of the volleyball gym and out of high school). I bought a pair of these elastic pants at Old Navy for about $25 - and I like them…

HS: 125 College: 135 CW: 128 I'm actually looking to go below HS weight because I was very muscular/athletic in HS, and I doubt I will ever be that muscular again. I'm going to try to get to what I estimate my HS body fat % to be, which was probably around 18%. I am at around 22% right now - wish me luck! Anyone feel free…

I agree with both statements. I was only addressing butt muscle tone with the protein comment. Calorie intake matters if you want more/less fat distributed. Also, @vardaeml, that whole topic is clear troll. This one *seems* to not be a troll.

Just try to moderate, or drink a lot of cold water when you're eating these snacky or unhealthful foods. I noticed that I feel better about myself when I only have 1 piece of chocolate instead of the whole bar I was craving, and these positive feelings carry over to the next day

Squats are only useful if you are using proper form and appropriate weight. Improper form can injure you in addition to not working the correct target muscle. Too low weight means you're really not doing anything to improve your muscle, and too high is, well, just not safe. I'm 5'4" 130 and I squat 135 in the squat rack.…

Hmm, very good point I have never measured myself.... I'm thinking I should start!

Awesome post. I hope people can come here instead of creating millions of threads :P

Yeah, I've never followed a real diet. I just count my in/out and monitor my nutrient needs. I am a huge fan of special K in the morning for breakfast, but honestly, eating one thing with every meal sounds boring as hell. I can only imagine cravings shooting through the roof like that.

This. I pack tons of snacks in my day. Edamame (120 cal), strawberries (30 cal), and cottage cheese with jam (200) are my usual ones. That way I'm never hungry, and I don't overeat when meal time comes around. Cereal for breakfast, salad for lunch, veggie and meat for dinner. I will sip several cups of water throughout the…

It sounds like you're on the right track. If you're plateauing, you clearly need to change something: your diet, your exercise, or your goals (maybe they aren't realistic). I am no professional, but I have a slight understanding of nutrient needs and how exercise affects the body (I have a BS in Health Science). To get…

Really good responses here. Usually I skip walls of text but it was very thoroughly and thoughfully written. :) I've noticed that my cravings for junk food go away if I ignore them for a short time. I also have far fewer cravings if I am mentally very busy (either doing something entertaining or just something difficult).…

Yes, facing your questions by actually reading and utilizing the answers is a great place to start.

I don't think that you can target fat loss in an area. you can, however, tone certain areas so they look less flabby. Fat covering a strong midsection looks much more firm than fat covering a loose core. I use exercise to help keep my body toned despite some extra fat padding I'm 5'4" 130 lbs and built muscular with only a…

Well, I mean, my boyfriend who is 6'4" weighs 220. If he decided he wanted to look like Captain America, he would need to put on at least 30 lbs of muscle, which is difficult to do when you already have a very high caloric need and need to cover all your nutrient needs. People who weigh a lot and lift have to plan every…

Response to Point 1) 42 would be considered young for menopause; however, as it can happen as young as 42, I wanted to include it as a possibility. But more than just being female, as you age your metabolism decreases. a 40 year old doesn't need to eat as much as a 25 year old, because as we age our base metabolic rates…
