A good sized gear bag with many pockets is the one item I seem to be yearning and thinking is essential. Between Running Shoes, Cycling Shoes, HRM, Swim Suits, Run clothes, Cycling clothes, Helmet, Goggles and so on I seem to have to completely unpack my bag several times a day to ensure I have everything or to find one…

Congrats on taking the first steps. I officially weigh in once a week but will step on the scales a few times a week to make sure that what I am doing is not having negative impact. You learn to expect fluctuations on a day to day basis. Pictures I think is a matter of personal preference, for me I was not comfortable…

Thanks for the tip on swim outlet. Will give them a try for sure. continuing the dumb questions theme. Is there a heart rate monitor that works in water? My 310xt is waterproof but obviously does to sync to the heart rate strap in the pool. Does anyone even bother with heart rate zones in the pool?

Thanks Shawn. Will be starting trainer road when I get back from holidays. Been lucky while away and have managed to at least get in runs most days. There was no way my wife was going to sign off on bringing my bike and trainer on the 15 hour drive to her family. May try and squeak in a swim tomorrow at the local Y. Kinda…

Could you not use trainer road with your husbands ant stick and your speed and cadence sensor?

Thanks everyone. I hit the local running store and took advantage of the Christmas sales to get the Cold Weather running gear I needed. Was not near as bad as I thought it would be. Not finding rash guards anywhere though. Being Winter and sub zero temperatures I am sure that plays into it. May opt for a Tri Top if I can…

Back in the spring I weighed somewhere around 325lbs and decided to make a change. I started running/walking (even the Running was more a walk with a bounce) daily for a few weeks and the knees started to give out as I started increasing my intervals. Eventually I gave up running and soon found the bike. Over the course of…

Set a goal for myself to do a sprint in 2015. Would love to connect with some MFP that are in same boat

My Selection was pretty limited. Most the local bike shops around here are closing at 5 or 6 though the week. There is a larger Ski and Bike Chain that is open till 9:00 so I managed to stop there last night. Being the ramp up to ski season here I had a vast selection of Skis, Snowboards and winter parkas to choose from…

Was a little embarrassed to post, then I saw a Buffalo fan Born and raised on the leafs. Yeah it is a tough existence but somebody has to.

I have a fuel EX8 and love it. My daughter used to race MTB and I was on the mindset that I had to go hard tail X-Country specific...blah... blah. A few test rides and I discovered at 45+ I am entitled to the cushy ride of a full suspension bike. When I bought my road bike I actually wished they made a full suspension road…

Maybe i am old fsshion. But to me if I want to buy a new stem then the local shop should look at me and my bike and recommend a size. Not tell me to spend 150.00 for a basic fitting which will then tell me what sizs stem to buy from them. This has all started from sessions i have been doing with a coach. Duri g the…

That seriously made me laugh,

I managed to find a pair of Adidas running tights at Running Room for 35.00. They are not the thickest but so far on the cooler night rides they are doing the trick as the sun drops and we ride back with lights. I just pull them over my bibs. As I get closer to my goal weight I will invest more in some cycling specific…

Saturday I took part in a group ride that broke a number of milestones for me. I have only been on a Bike Since July and at that time 5 km on the Trek Liquid 20 MTB i picked up used just about caused me to throw in the towel thinking there was no way I could get into shape no matter how much weight I lost. The ride was…

I am going to guess I was close to your weight when I started. I did not own a scale at the time but was a 54" waist. I was not on MFP but managed to lose enough on my own to get motivated. I joined MFP and about 2 weeks in of logging my food went to the local department store and stepped on a scale to see I was 306 lbs…

Every time. It only gets weird when your stuck shaving beside the guy doing Helicopters in front of the mirror

I am scheduled for a 3 hour ride Saturday through rolling hills. Reading this is now making me a tad nervous

As I am in low calorie mode I fear this as my rides are starting to get to 2 hours. More importantly though, what an end to that Football Game!!!!! OMG, i was on the edge of my seat trying to not scream at the TV waking the whole house. Go Noles!

Thanks everyone. Did the shorts over thing again Thursday night but think that is the last time. Just to big a PIA. It is not like I am covered in logos trying to look like I am Lance. All black shorts, all black top. Okay the shoes are flashy but that is it.

The guy at the LBS promised the colour was good for a 3 Mph increase in average ride speed. Actually it was last pair in my size so I did not have a choice but for 85.00 I will suffer through the odd joke.

60% off sale at my LBS netted me these today.

Tired of doing local group rides with 26"x2.5" knobys i picked this up this week. It is just an Allez sport but looks like the previous owner really babied it and upgraded to full ultegra where the original spec had some Sora components. Right now I have my SPD pedals off my mountain bike on it but it came with Shimano 105…

Do you honestly think that this does not happen in every kitchen? Pick your finest restaurant and ask yourself if a line cook drops a 40.00 piece of beef onto the floor while rushing that he does not pick it up clean it up and throw on the grill. I can tell you he does. He would rather do that then explain the 40.00…

I by no means am an expert on cycling. But I was 306 when I started this year. On top of all the excellent tips you have been given I will just add the following. Budget is everything. If your looking to spend little find yourself a rigid fork hard tale MTB. Most suspension forks are not meant for us Clydesdales especially…

Make sure your bike fits. Not just saddle height but that your knees are in the right positions over the pedals and handlebars/top tube length is correct. The more comfortable you are on the bike the more likely you are to ride and enjoy it.

The only reason you can not do it is because you are choosing not to. It is a choice you make everyday as you reach for a soda or or sweets or over eat. When you decide you are willing to put in the effort you will be able to do it. The cravings for sweets or high calorie foods gets better and easier to manage. Start by…

Bought a pair of Bontrager Race Bibs Thursday night. The LBS owner was really working me to buy the ASOS Bibs but at ther ate i am losing weight I figured 300.00 on shorts that might get me 6-8 weeks before replacement was a bit silly. Had a quick ride wearing them and they felt great. Keep in mind this is my first cycling…
