  • Date: 1 July Exercised?: Yes. 20 minutes walking the dog. Calories: Yes! 1595/1600, including a bit more booze than intended. I was a bit worried, as I was at a medieval feast, which was lots of rich foods, and alcohol, but I went very light during the day, and then skipped the boring filler stuff like bread. I didn't want…
  • Pro tip: you can also get a significant (false) creatinine boost in your bloods from slow cooked red meat, especially lamb. My husband, post kidney transplant, had three unnecessary kidney biopsies before we learnt that having slow cooked lamb the night before was a Bad Idea.
  • I have POTS and complex dysautonomia. It's a wicked circle, because exercise is one of the most effective treatments for my condition, but when I'm very sick, exercise is the last thing I feel I'm up to doing. And so it snowballs. But I'm trying.
  • G'day! I'm Cat, and I've never joined a challenge before, so pretty excited about this one, need the accountability. I'm a 29 yr old from Sydney Australia.
  • Would love some more active MFP users who will post and give support. Please add me if this is you.
  • My gym time is getting up at ye-gods o'clock and going before work, and the biggest hurdle is getting every possible minute of sleep and still getting out the door on time. So for me it is absolutely crucial the night before to have my bag packed with everything I need for work, and workout clothes all laid out to throw…
  • 418. Almost lost it recently with a 26 hour flight that crossed the dateline and completely lost a day. Had to do some very cunning phone timezone changes forward and back to land on the day in question!
  • The good quality, natural commercial yoghurt (that are labelled accordingly) certainly do have live bacteria still in them, because you can use that to inoculate homemade yoghurt! But I agree that homemade is definitely better, when I have time. But I wonder what percentage of the sugar you could discount in the feeding of…
  • I'm also a fan of a bit of brain trickery when it comes to sweeteners - and I don't do sugar free sweeteners, natural or otherwise. If I really want to sweeten something, but don't have the carbs left to add a little bit of honey, I often find adding something like cinnamon and/or vanilla is enough to trick my brain into…
  • I had one, and liked it a lot... The convenience of auto logging was great. After about 6 months, though, it became quite inconsistent. Weigh yourself 3 times in 5 minutes and vary by 1-3kg, which I found messed with my head a lot. I contacted fitbit, but was told that a little bit of variation was "normal". I have…
  • Thanks for breaking it down, that makes sense. Inadvertently I have to eat pretty clean! The weight gain was a result of worsening rheumatoid arthritis, and an inability to do much activity at all. Have managed to put that completely in remission with what is effectively a modified paleo. So sugar free, grain free low…
  • Are you logging any specific exercises? Whether through mfp, the button on the device, or manually on fitbit? Since I've upgraded to the Charge HR, I notice that the exercise records are duplicating, which is why I'm getting a bunch of extra credit. I've just emailed fitbit support, haven't heard back yet. You can make the…
  • If that was a relatively standard day for you, up your activity level on MyFitnessPal. I found I had to do that a couple of times until an average day (workout aside) didn't have a significant adjustment in either direction.
  • On the breakfast front - I'm not breakfasting at the moment, but my go to high protein breakfast was a variety of breakfast sausage/meatball/slider recipes, pre cooked and frozen. I had a stash in the freezer, appropriately bagged into breakfast size servings. Then all you need is a microwave to reheat. My favorite is a…
  • I am trying to break years of unhealthy body image issues, so thank you all for the gentle reminder to look less at the kg. My bf% is still above the healthy range, so perhaps that's what I need to focus on more. I have a naturally quite slight build, so I don't carry extra fat well. I love what primal (and lifting) has…
  • Mine is open. I eat a low carb, grain, legume & sugar free (vaguely paleo) diet for autoimmune reasons, but mostly that just means unprocessed.
  • And yes, at 140lb a vast improvement on the lower weight!
  • Thank you to you both. You've absolutely hit it with the number not being the end all answer, Punchgut. I'm not afraid of the scale moving up once I've got my bf% to a healthy place - currently it's ~28%, a significant drop from a previous 37% - but still a bunch higher than I want it to be. I admit that getting to 58kg is…
  • I do the magic stick blender in a jar method - so ludicrously easy. I used to use my food processor which was certainly not difficult, but stick blender in a jar all the way. Same method also makes a mean hollandaise.
  • I am slightly concerned about this. While I am moderately fit, my heart rate is naturally quite high. I've only had the HR for 1 day thus far, but it's happily put me in the "fat burning zone" at a very low level of activity, standing around etc. Can I modify the zones? I had read that you could customize the zones, but it…
  • Not new to MFP, but looking for a few more active friends. I am a 26yr old Aussie who keeps to a modified paleo/primal diet for health reasons - don't add me if you're going to be negative about that! Looking for friends with open diaries, who actually want to engage in conversation and support each other!
  • I, like Cindy, have non kidney autoimmune issues. Happily in remission these days due entirely to dietary management - low carb primal. My husband on the other hand has IgA Nephropathy, so I am very familiar with your plight. He doesn't keep to primal 100%, but as I do all the cooking, he reaps a bunch of the benefits. Is…
  • I recently picked up a Paderno Spiralizer. The reviews I read of the handheld ones suggested that it was more fiddly to use, and also it was more important to have the right shaped (either naturally, or cut to shape) vegetables. I've been following the Inspiralizer blog for a while, and she swears by the Paderno one, so I…
  • Take 2, I can do this. If I hit tis target this week, will up to 3500 next. Weekly Goal: 2600 Mon: 372 (Walking & Kinect: Wallbreaker) Tues: calories burned (how they were burned) Wed: calories burned (how they were burned) Thur: calories burned (how they were burned) Fri: calories burned (how they were burned) Sat:…
  • I'm another just-across-the-tasman Aussie, also looking for more mutually supportive/motivational friends. I've sent you a request, if that's okay.
  • Yes please, to some local(ish) friends. :) I'm 24yr old from (Western) Sydney, and I'm looking to lose another 10 or 12 kg. I would love some support to keep motivated.
  • First timer here. Going to be not over ambitious. Can always build on it.. Week: 1 Weekly Goal: 2100 Mon: calories burned (how they were burned) Tues: calories burned (how they were burned) Wed: calories burned (how they were burned) Thur: calories burned (how they were burned) Fri: calories burned (how they were burned)…
  • I'm 5'5", and my SW was 165. Currently at 152, and my GW is 125, and then planning to maintain under 130. 125 was my lowest adult fit weight, and I love how I felt at that stage. I could also lose a cup size and be happy.
