  • I hit 10 last week and I'm sitting at 11.5 right now. I'm just trying not to get complacent lest I gain anything back! Just two more days!
  • Dude, there's a food calorie database right on this website. Try looking things up before you say things. A medium dill pickle has 12 calories. That's not very many, but still a lot more than zero.
  • Ok, then look at it this way: you ever seen an animal that eats only vegetables (herbivore)? If vegetables were "negative calorie" then these animals would all starve to death.
  • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negative-calorie_food There's never been any evidence to support their existence.
  • To piggyback on the avocado cubes suggestion, try it with a bit of miso paste mixed with just a little water (not nearly as much as you'd use for miso soup). Anything salty goes amazing with avocado.
  • Black-eyed peas and collard greens! Of course, both of those are traditionally served with a lot of fatty meat, but they're still quite good on their own. Add some liquid smoke for flavor if you want to cut out the ham hocks. I like to put TVP in my black-eyed peas, but I know that's not for everyone, so you could always…
  • I've been getting into Sunflower Seed Butter lately. My Friday morning treat for making it through the week is an everything bagel with sunflower seed butter and a whole banana on it. It's freaking amazing.
  • I wouldn't call myself a "prepper" or anything but I live on the coast so I have a shelter set up with food & water for a couple weeks in case of hurricane or blizzard. It's fun to think about zombies and the like though, and if it helps motivate people to be prepared for more realistic scenarios then it's a good thing.
  • By the way, I just wanted to point out how much I appreciate threads like this because it lets me fill up my ignore list with everyone who comes in just to make snarky comments about how much they love milk and eggs. Please, speak up now so I don't have to see your comments later!
  • I've been vegan over 10 years, and while I agree with the sentiment that it's probably better to worry about calories than carbs, I did just want to reassure people that it's not difficult to find vegan protein sources. Most of the great vegan protein sources are even much lower in fat than meat sources, so you should have…
  • I have trouble hitting mine too (and rarely do), but I have to remind myself that I haven't failed just because I didn't reach it. For weight loss, calories are really the most important factor. I think the goals on here may be a bit high for people who aren't strength training, but it's good to have a goal to strive for,…
  • If I'm not really into lifting though, and don't mind being "skinny-fat" (it still beats being fat), is there any harm in doing cardio five days straight? It seems like most of the tips I've seen against it are from the standpoint of building muscles. I know that's one good strategy for weight loss, and probably even the…
  • I'm just starting out, but I'm one of those people who can't do anything without a regular routine. Seriously, if something disrupts my getting ready for work routine, I will frequently forget to brush my teeth or pack my lunch or something like that. I've found the only way I can reliably actually exercise is if I do it…
  • I've only lost 7 lbs so far, but am glad to see this as I was getting a bit discouraged for the same reason. I think men carry their weight in such a way that's less obvious, and a lot of fat in men is inside the body around the organs as well, whereas women store fat directly under the skin.
  • Really good advice here! Now that I think about it, part of me was assuming I'd intentionally have high-calorie things just because, even though I probably wouldn't really want them anyways. Certainly no reason to binge, but at the same time I won't hold myself back just because I happen to hit my calorie limit for the…
  • Thanks everyone! This is definitely helpful, as I believe I may have been over-thinking it :) I'll try to keep track of my intake, but still eat/drink what I want, and hopefully I can still make the week work out close to goal.
  • This is probably one of the biggest weight loss advantages of being vegan. Treats like that are almost never vegan, so I can easily just say "no" without having to even consider it.
  • It is only once a year, I guess it's just bad timing since I just started and don't want to upset my progress! I think I'll go with #2 and try to keep it close to balanced for the week. I've been coming in under target so far this week, so I'll try to keep it up and "save up" some calories for Saturday. I was also planning…
  • I'm down 6 lbs. as of this morning, but I think it's a water fluctuation. In actuality I'm probably only down 3, but that's still on target for 10 by the end of the month!
  • I haven't needed to give up anything, but with many things I've gone from one or more times per day to just about once a week. I find it surprisingly easy to cut back frequency versus cutting something out entirely, and it lets me appreciate it more when I do allow myself a treat!
  • "Twotopia," and congratulations!
  • Ignore this guy, he's clearly a troll account.
  • I think a lot of these type of comments are rooted in their own insecurities. They see you succeeding at something they can't, so that forces them to either dismiss you or envy you, and most people prefer to do the former.
  • 2326 steps on the stepper today; a new personal best!
  • I'm actually down 3 lbs. on day 1, but I'm guessing that's mostly just a water fluctuation or something. Either way, it's encouraging to see on the first day of the challenge!
  • 30 minutes on the stair machine today; beat my personal best stair count!
  • I like the canned ones. Drop them in a pot of chili or some black-eyed peas, with the sauce intact.
  • What did you have to do? I have my ticker set up but can't find how to add it to my posts. edit: Never mind; clearly posting in this thread makes it automatically work ;)
  • 6'0" at 34 y/o CW: 240 GW: 220 as a short-term goal to get out of the "Obese" BMI. Long-term GW is probably more like 180.
