I made it! The enemy (perfection) wilted before the good. Thanks Heather and Katia (and pretty much all of you on MFP) for the good advice. This is a hard one to learn but I love having a quote to focus on, DON'T LET THE PERFECT BE THE ENEMY OF THE GOOD. My friend and I ended up sitting with all the young families on the…

Heather (reiterated by Katia), thank you for the good advice...DON'T LET THE PERFECT BE THE ENEMY OF THE GOOD. I'm going to let that one seep into my consciousness. It's actually GREAT advice. Now, if I say it to myself enough - and practice it enough - maybe I'll be able to live it as well as think it. My first chance to…

Just a quick "hello" because i don't want to be a complete stranger. Where does the time go? It seems to zoom on by at an ever-increasing speed. :noway: I've been busy trying to reorganize my space. I basically moved out for about 6 weeks so my daughter's friends could move in while they went through a difficult time (they…

Just a quick Hello! So much going on with everyone. Geri, I hope your hubby feels better - and stays better. Kim, did I hear it was your birthday? HAPPY BIRTHDAY! BTW, I loved the video. I hope we can meet in person some day soon. I have a feeling I will tower over you as, at 5'8", I'm the short one in my family. (My…

I'm resurfacing from the wedding festivities, family get-togethers, a birthday lunch with my sister, etc., etc., etc.! I have read some (but not all by any means) of your posts. I wish I could do a brain dump of all the responses that, unfortunately, remain in my head. I am thinking of you! I have to admit, once again,…

I read the last two pages of posts - will have catch up more later. The activity level probably won't simmer down around here until after my nephew's wedding on Sunday. Lots of family coming in so things will be hoppin'. Kim mentioned that we in Northern California are starting a 3-day heatwave. Oh no. It's an outdoor…

Again, not much time (or any) to read posts or write one. I'm worn out. I've had DGD2 (age almost 8) here with me at my folks' house (poor folks) for 3 days. Suzy picked up DGD1 from Celiac camp (very nice for kids with Celiac) today, on DGD 1's 10th birthday. Suzy's been sick tho so most birthday stuff fell to me. Oh my.…

Do you know how I was wishing I'd be busier? Be careful what you wish for! My almost-8 year old granddaughter is staying here at my folks with me for the next few days. She's lots of fun but definitely wants my full attention. I did start reading the posts. Barbie, yours, as usual, really hit home with me. Sugar just does…

Warning: Long post ahead! I'm taking it easy for the next few days so am extra glad to have MFP friends. I think I'm caught up on all your posts! No guarantees for the future because life will, hopefully, get a lot busier. But, for now, I can be a good (although talkative) friend. Feel free to just skip on down to the next…

I just finished reading a few of JB's blogs. Her spirit is contagious. Puts everything in perspective. Thank you, JB, for lighting the way. Mimi

Lesley, I love hearing about Tasmania. It sounds heavenly. You mentioned that you don't "diet." I should explain that by "diet," I simply mean what I'm eating. I'm not on any program - although I don't think that's a bad thing if it's a good one and works for someone. The way I'm eating now is how I'd like to continue…

Last night and most of today have been harder…fast heartbeat (resting rate around 100), feeling blah and emotional…some skipped heartbeats. I guess my heart is not happy about being poked, prodded, and burned. 5 hours of general anesthetic takes a toll too. Feeling crummy is not too surprising. The doctor told me I would…

Thanks for all the kind thoughts. I feel a little better each day. It's been amazing, really. I still have another week and a half of pretty much no activity, then away I go. It's been so nice to see all your caring comments. I don't feel as though I deserve them as I've been gone so long. Nevertheless, I'm very glad for…

The ablation on Tuesday went really well. I'm sitting here feeling pretty darned good. It's amazing really. This is the first time in 15 years that I've been fibrillation free without being on any heart meds at all. Yippee! The doc warned that I could have some more fibrillation in the next few weeks as my heart heals but…

Oh, goodness. Why did I say "Donna" in my last post? I meant to say "Joyce." I'll get the names straight eventually!! Nitey night.

Donna, your sister sounds like she was a wonderful person. I'm sorry you had her with you for such a short time. I was just jotting down a couple of notes in the "My Home" section of MFP. I thought they might be worth sharing. They have to do with the effect of staying off added sugar. It's been amazing to me. I still have…

I'm trying hard to keep up. This is a chatty bunch. It's so interesting hearing everyone's story. I particularly admire everyone who's working on their fitness. That's next on my agenda but will have to wait a few weeks while I recover from the ablation. I'm getting calmer about the whole thing. That's good news for me...I…

Thank you, Joyce. I am trying to keep my worrying self in check! Mimi

Back from vacation - and lost a pound. Whooee. Must be a first. I stopped tracking calories after a few days. Just got too complicated. I couldn't access the Internet and knew I'd never put everything in. I stayed with my plan to not eat gluten (I'm not allergic, but it's easy stuff to slather with butter or mayo) and to…

p.s. Sandy, I don't know your circumstances but I wonder if it's time for each person to buy and cook for herself? I have to do that even now when I visit my folks because their schedule and their food choices are different from mine. We've gotten so its completely comfortable. (We do share occasional meals.)

This turned out to be a crazy day. Not enough time to eat. Weird but true. I scanned your posts quickly. Katie,I went from sad about your kitty to laughing because you'd found him. I'm so glad. Barbie, thank you for your wise words. It's funny how important some people think it is to let you know that you really should eat…

I’ve decided there’s no catching up on responding to posts so I’ll just go from here. Some days I may have time to say “hey” to individuals and sometimes not. That will have to be my MO . I realized my talking about the Bay Area and my parents in one breath and my rural lifestyle in another might be confusing. I split my…

I can’t keep up. I can’t keep up. Help! I’ve tried. I really have. But I look away for a minute and there are 18 new posts. I started a reply this morning and this is as far as I’ve gotten. I’ll do my best to catch up tomorrow. I really, really need the support that comes with being part of this group. Somehow, some way,…

I spent the day with my mom planning the menu and shopping for our vacation in Graeagle (total of 12 people, more on some days). We leave on Thursday. I keep thinking about how often a little jog in my routine has turned into a big deviation in staying on track. I’ll take full advantage of being one of the planners to make…

My daughter gave me a Fitbit Zip a few months ago. I put it in my pocket then lost it. Bummer. I’m thinking I should get another one – or maybe a different device. What do you like? Is it more important to sync with MFP or to use the device’s online system? (Or maybe you can do both?) Any suggestions? Another question...I…

Sayin' hey (that's twice for the day, Renny! It's nice to be wanted!!) Renny and Katia, thanks for your warm hellos. Every time I get back to MFP after a hiatus, even a short one, it always feels so good. I was reading an e-book on the net (http://authoritynutrition.com/viciouseating.pdf) about food addiction. The title is…

Good morning. I have been slow to get back to a regular routine of checking in with MFP (which goes along with not eating quite right or exercising!) I am newly motivated now though. I'm scheduled for atrial fibrillation (afib) ablation on July 15. It's a scary prospect but seems like the right thing to do. I've had afib…

Just dropping in to say hello. I went down to my folks' house for a few days and forgot the cord to my computer. Urgh. The computer won't work with a battery (time for a new computer) and I couldn't remember my MFP password or the gmail account I'd set up especially for MFP. I did pretty well with what I ate anyway but…

BTW, I was just admiring my ticker with the "3 pounds lost" statement on it. The background is a bit of my backyard with what the girls call the lupine factory in it. I didn't grow up in the country but I sure do enjoy living here. It's a feast for the eyes. Mimi SVQ

Today was better, exercise-wise. I am almost at 5,000 steps for the day - not much, I know, but good for me. I bought a treadmill at the thrift shop ($49!) a couple of weeks ago and have been using it for 10 minutes at a time. It's a perfect way to get back into exercise. The pace of the day was slower and more…
