  • Powerful and useful stuff, Mango. My prayers are with you in your time of sorrow. Take care of yourself. Rob
  • Great to hear! You've got a great attitude. It'll take you far! Rob
  • My family has been very supportive, going out of their way not to tempt me. But last night I cooked dinner for the family (minus me) and it felt fine. I had to remember to not taste after seasoning, not eat the green pepper ends, which are part of the usual cooking routine. We made it through fine. You've got this! Rob
  • I'm coming up to surgery on Tuesday (9/30). No tricks, just following the plan. I bought into the plan fully back in April and this week is just the last pre-surgery step. The biggest thing I have noticed during the liquid phase is how I still am planning dinner as if I was eating normally. I guess it became an afternoon…
  • Take your time and make sure to also take time for yourself. You are strong and capable and will get through this. We're here when you need a respite or support. Rob
  • I have six days of only 80-100 grams of protein shakes and broth, sugar free Popsicles and sugar free jello, then the last day clear liquids only. Today is day 3.
  • We'll be two days apart! I go in next Tuesday. Don't you have a liquid diet that is already started? Best of luck to you! Rob
  • I use the ArcTrainer as well. I just put Elliptical trainer and substitute the calories from the machine (after entering my weight at the beginning of the workout) for the number that MFP suggests. I know that number isn't necessarily real, but I believe it is consistent workout to workout, so I use it as a high score…
  • I have been pretty open about what is happening at work and the response has been pretty uniformly positive about me doing something positive for my health. As I have progressed along the pre-surgery diet (since April), I am down about 90 pounds and have had a number of people ask me why have the surgery if I am doing so…
  • I am sure everything will go well. Let us know how it goes! I go in next Tuesday. Rob
  • I have heard good things about the Couch to 5K program. It starts walking and gradually adds in running intervals. There are plenty of C25K groups here. My hips are still not terribly excited about me running again. It will be interesting to see if losing more weight will allow it back into my life. Rob
  • Congrats! I start my pre-op liquid diet tomorrow and have surgery Sept. 30th! I have added protein supplements to my diet as part of the pre-surgey diet, and hope I will be able to continue to enjoy the flavors post surgery. My mother (who had RnY a few years ago) bought us a Vitamix as she said it helped her a lot to have…
  • Fantastic! You will never again have a challenge ahead of you that will look the same. You will have this huge success in your memory bank to remind yourself of how much you can accomplish! Great job! Rob
  • Welcome aboard! Hopefully you have had a good pre-op experience and you are ready to jump into the new lifestyle. I have my surgery September 30th and start my one week liquid diet tomorrow. What I have suggested for newcomers is to read through a few pages of topics in this and the other WLS groups, find some people that…
  • So sorry for your loss. Our prayers are with your family. We're here when you need us.
  • Great Progress! Congrats! Rob
  • Way to Go! I knew you'd finish and that you would be happy with the time. You are an inspiration to us all. Hopefully you will be able to fall back on this memory the next time you have an obstacle in front of you! Rob
  • My surgery is going to be September 30th. I'll be starting my one week pre-op diet in 8 days! Rob
  • Great to hear!
  • I am pre-op (Sept. 30th date!) so I can't answer the first two, but I can comment on the third. My wife is excited to see me taking real steps to improve my life, and she is benefiting as well, she has lost about 25 pounds during my pre-op phase, as we both eat healthier (I do most of the cooking). She has joined and uses…
  • here's my understanding. Fitbit comes up with an estimate of calories burned based on your stats, steps and activity level (step rate). It makes an adjustment on MFP based on the amount that estimate is over your activity level (Sedentary, lightly active, etc.) that MFP is expecting you to burn every day. When you do…
  • I don't think it is just under BMR, but under 1200 calories that triggers the warning. I have been well under BMR for months, and only got the warning recently when I ended up under 1200 for a day.
  • Bummer that this is happening to you. I think that the slow boat is not necessarily a bad thing, though. 7 months of the good behaviors will give you lots of confidence that you are able to follow the new life you are choosing. Trying to see the positive, Rob
  • We're here when you have time. One of the things that feels 'different' from past weight loss efforts is the feeling of stability that comes from being here. Life goes on and I know there will be times when outside stresses will make it feel like eating right and exercising won't be top of mind, but the lapse can be…
  • Welcome! I started in a similar place as you. Male, 45, 425 pounds. I have lost and regained weight many times over the years. It took me a long time to get serious about considering surgery, as I was convinced that I should be able to do it on my own. What changed my mind was when arthritis started in on my hips and I was…
  • Welcome aboard! You have found an extremely supportive group of pre-, post- and veteran sleevers. I am soon to switch sides as I go in for my surgery September 30th. My suggestion for new members here is to go back and read three or four pages of topics here, find some people who you seem to click with in all stages of the…
  • My last consultation with the surgeon (the one where I got my surgery date) was certainly the most 'scary' in the sense that it was the one with the most frank discussion of the risks of surgery. I believe my program has been pretty good at balancing the short term negatives (the first six months of healing/eating…
  • Most of the folks in the US use insurance (I believe). A lot of the pre-op discussion here centers around jumping through hoops to get insurance approval. Call your insurance and see what their program is. Most programs have an Bariatric Orientation, which is generally free, and can give you an introduction to the process.…
  • Are you aware that you can print out the diary (either food or exercise or both)? I found it very useful to take to appointments with the Nutritionist. The "View Full Report (Printable)" green button at the bottom of the food entry screen takes you to a printable report that you can customize for food, exercise, etc. Rob
