Ted Talk on the Chemistry of Weight Loss
Saw this on the main forums. Very interesting talk on what physically happens to fat molecules and how they leave the body. Science heavy concepts but well presented. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuIlsN32WaE Rob

My Three Year Post
Yesterday was my three year anniversary on MFP. It is also three years from the orientation session for my Bariatric Program. It has been a momentous three years in my life, taking me from 425 pounds down to 240 pounds the first year, spending the second year trying to figure out maintenance, followed by this past year…

Body Composition Testing (DEXA Scan)
Body Scan Results and Process Since I started losing weight in April of last year, I have been concerned and interested in fat loss versus muscle loss. Specifically, how to minimize the muscle loss that naturally comes with weight loss. While I wish I had done this earlier, I went in for a DEXA body composition analysis…

Two Years!
Two years ago today, I first logged on to MFP. I weighed 420 pounds and had just been to the orientation session at my Bariatric Surgery program. The last two years have been quite eventful! I the nearly six months between my orientation and my surgery, I hit the pre-surgery plan hard, losing 100 pounds through a simple…

NSV Trip of a Lifetime!
I just got back from an 8 day fishing trip deep in the Amazon rainforest. I am half Brazilian (my mother), and when we went down to see the Brazilian family for Christmas 2014, my cousin invited me to join him on what is now his 3rd fishing trip. Prior to losing the weight, there is no way I would have considered a trip…

One Year post-Surgery
Today marks my one year anniversary of my Sleeve surgery. I had the surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, with Dr. Arthur Carlin as my surgeon. My life is so much the better for the changes I made in preparation for the surgery, and the complementary effects of the surgery on my new way of eating, exercising and…

Found a Maintenance blog I like
I ran across a blog written by an MD who specializes on weight loss. Her blog is focused on Maintenance: http://www.refusetoregain.com/ While I don't subscribe to her food recommendations (primarily Primal, low/no sugars / low carb), her choice of topics (BMI ranges, setting a goal weight, separating loss from maintenance…

Before and after pics
I am coming up on a golf weekend, a trip I look forward to every year. As part of the preparation, the host put up a link to some pics from the weekend in 2011. Some ugly pics of me! I'm posting a couple of these with ones taken this spring! The comparison really astounded me. Part of me doesn't remember how ugly my body…

Six Month Ramblings
Today marks six months since my surgery! I am just short of 1 year away from my bariatric program start date. I am at 176 pounds down in total, 76 since surgery. I am 3-4 pounds away from the goal weight I set at the beginning which was a BMI of 29 (Overweight!) As I look back on the past year, I am amazed at the progress…

Lentil Veggie Curry Recipe
One of my lunch staples is a lentil veggie curry. I make a big batch that gives me about 25-30 lunch servings (200g or about 1/2 cup for 150ish calories). It’s a pretty loose recipe but I have standardized it a bit. It also really helps me maintain regularity so i make an effort to have it at least every other day. 450g…

NSV!!
One of the most satisfying things that I do is coaching basketball. I started about 7 years ago when my son was in 5th grade. I have always loved basketball, didn't play in High School because I was the fat kid who wouldn't put myself out there, but I managed the girl's basketball team (my sister played) and learned a lot…

Manually getting your ticker back
I missed my ticker, so I found out how to get it back. When you have finished typing your post or response, open a second window or tab to MFP, go to your profile in the second window, and click on the 'add to your site' link. Copy the two lines in the BBCode box and paste at the end of your comment. On the iPad, it pastes…

Rob's Adventures in Surgery
Warning: There are no actual adventures here. Everything went so well, so much better than I expected! Tuesday morning: I reported to the hospital at 9:15 for surgical prep. They took us back into a cubicle, gave me a wonderful hospital gown and started prep. IV started, lots of questions (including me telling them what…

Surgery Today 9/30
Well after 162 days of pre-surgery work, today is the day! I head to the hospital at 9:15 for my sleeve. A bit of anxiety in the household last night, but we'll be OK assuming no major complications. I'll get word out as soon as I can. Wish me luck! Rob

RAP Gummies - protein gummies
I saw these in the store this morning: http://rapproteingummies.com/ High protein fruit gummies, 200 cal, 20g protein per pack. I didn't buy any, but they look intriguing and possibly good for early post-surgery. I saw them in 7-11, but they claim they will be in major stores. Has anyone tried or seen these? Rob

Lessons and Victories from Last Week
I spent the past 9 days on a business trip to Europe. We were visiting suppliers so it was a pretty travel intensive trip, with full day trips to a city in Germany and then a day trip to Paris, followed by a couple of days in Krakow. I went into this trip already deciding that i wasn't going to stress about eating, would…

Surgery date set!!
I went in for my last pre surgery appointment today. It started with a weight and BP check, where they recorded me as down 74 pounds since the orientation class on April 15. Then I had about 45 minutes with a surgical resident and a med-student, where we talked about the surgery, confirmed my history and understanding of…
