  • Hey, that's a coincidence! No, you are lifting more than me on some things. I felt like I'd actually lost some strength today; I've had a bad cold recently, and I wonder if that has sapped my energy a little. I managed 12.2kg on the DB snatch (excuse these decimals - I have to add on the weight of the bar I screw the…
  • Correction: It's the last A now, the last B on Monday. Going to give it my biggest effort!
  • I've got 3 to go. Should've done one this evening but got home a bit late, so will do it tomorrow. Then Monday and Wednesday, I think. And then you're away - Eeek! I'll be talking to myself!
  • Is there anybody else in the whole wide world doing Stage 5 apart from Jen and myself? It's beginning to feel oh-so-lonely in here
  • That's interesting, because I'm approaching the end of the NROLFW (I'm on Stage 5 right now) and wondering what to do next. In the discussion pages for the mfp group, most people say they are heading for stronglifts 5x5 next, so I assumed it was a more advanced program. The NROLFW does get quite complex and time-consuming,…
  • I'm 54 and I'm several months into lifting heavy with the New Rules of Lifting for Women. I'll be finishing the programme in a few weeks, and then I'm going to go on to do 'Stronglifts 5x5', which is for both men and women. Lifting is absolutely nothing to be fearful of, and your age shouldn't make any difference. In fact,…
  • I've got 4 to go too. However, I felt like I benefited so much from my recent 10 days off, that I may have a short break; not a whole week, but maybe 4 or 5 days. Do you have British channels, or will you have Arabic commentary?
  • Sorry Jen, it's only me again! I've had a cold this week and have been feeling a bit under par altogether, so I didn't do the full workout yesterday, just the big moves. Still hard though. Yes, I'm going to do Stage 6: Why not, I reckon? I'm not working to any deadline, and I am interested in building strength not just…
  • It depends. If universities are going to continue having examinations with handwritten papers as submissions, then surely you would want your kids to be equipped to deal with that. But if universities (and other institutions) could accept word processed submissions - a tablet on every exam table? - then fair enough, why…
  • I'm just back after a week of luxury and indulgence on holiday, and have been reading back over this (very active) thread to get myself back in the zone again. One thing you've been discussing is something that I've been thinking about a lot recently, and that's about how important it is to lift as heavy as possible. Going…
  • No, I'm here too Jen! I should have done 5A again this evening, but I'm just too tired, so will get back with it tomorrow. Congrats on your development - sounds like you are doing really well. We share the bench press issue, and interestingly, we are at about the same weight. 3 x 120 planks is amazing - well done! I'm…
  • I feel your pain Jen (and Ellie too). I'm guessing though, that you are firmer than you were. There isn't a dramatic change in me either (apart from my new thunder thighs, lol), but when I am not in the critical zone, I can see subtle changes, and I am less 'mushy' than I was. If you are not gaining weight then something…
  • OK, so my first 5A is done. I'm feeling a bit useless, truth be told. First of all, on the DB single-arm overhead squat, I somehow got the dumbbells the wrong way round for the first set, with the heavier one above my head, and was thinking OMG this is a lot more difficult than I remember! I could actually hear muscle…
  • Morning all! I'm due to start this Stage n the near future, so I'm here having a look around. I think I'll be another one to 'modify' the rest periods. Life's too short for all that sitting around!
  • It's 8.7 each side for the cuban snatch. But I have to say that from my sessions with the PT I learnt that they should be done really fast, which helps. I think I got a rotator cuff injury from doing them too slow in stage 2. Oooh, listen to me with all the jargon! I may take a few days off, but not a whole week, as the…

  • OK. Stage 4 completed. Thank goodness, is all I can say right now. Below are my results in terms of weights lifted. They are all in kilos, and they are odd weights as I have cheapo, screw-on things so have to add the weight of the bar and DBs each time. I've checked them against Stage 2, and I did manage to increase the…

  • Well done Jen - sounds like you have made a great leap forward in terms of fitness. Thanks for the link; I found the vid really inspiring, and plan to repost on my newsfeed with a plea for one featuring older women! ETA: And oh, those pullups!

  • Gosh! 200 over is nothing! I regularly do that - but I work to a weekly rather than a daily limit, which makes it easier if I do transgress :) I'm not convinced that soreness is anything to go by. I get little if any, and I know I work really hard. Usually, lol!
  • Aw, Jessica - so sorry to hear that. Hope you are feeling better now. We may not be real people (!), but we are here for you anyway. And remember, we WILL all get there in the end.
  • And I've got just one more Stage 4 workout to go, so our paths won't cross (here anyway). Enjoy Stage 4 Samantha; I like the sound of fun cardio stuff! Can't decide - yet again - whether to take time out before Stage 5. I've just had a peep at it, and OMG, 4 SETS??? I may need time to psyche myself up for that.

  • I agree with all the others - I can see a real difference; you look great!
  • I'm having trouble relating to this thread; I love Greek Yoghurt on its own! At least, the Fage product in the earlier pics.
  • People often use their wrist measurement as a general guide. Mine is 6".
  • Wow! What an interesting read! Thank you so much for sharing all that - I found it highly inspirational and very stimulating too; I can relate well to many of the things you say. But oh, your secret is out - a physician, no less! No wonder you are busy; in fact, I'm surprised you find the time for this at all. You are…
  • Oh Birdy - I've been thinking longingly of 5x5 while doing those long Stage 4 workouts, but have been trying to convince myself to see this programme through until the end. Now you've made me question myself again; I'm in turmoil! I have my diary open too, but don't post it. Didn't appreciate some of the comments I got…
  • Another 5' 4" person here, with a small frame (those tiny wrists again). These days I'm weighing in around 116-119, having put on a few pounds from weight lifting. I'm from the UK, so our sizes are different, but I'm generally in the smallest on offer in the shops. I'm an apple, so although my weight is relatively low, I…
  • Excellent pics Sam! Thank you for posting them; I really needed a bit of inspiration.

  • Well hope you get what you need soon Jen. It must be so frustrating that you are ready to lift heavier but don't have the option. I'm still DOMS-free, to my amazement. And I am definitely lifting as heavy as I can go, so I don't know what it's all about. This evening I managed to do 3 sets of 4B, but will have to come back…

  • I'm surprised to hear about your DBs Jen; mine are screw on plates too, but will easily take more than that. Is there nothing else available in the Bahrain shops? Is there not an ebay equivalent? And are you thinking of a power cage for your barbell work? If so, you could also consider squat stands - much cheaper, easier…
