You can also work out before hand. I will sometimes really bust butt and burn around 600 calories before an event where I want to eat more than usual. Even if you go over by 100-200 calories, you'll still have a small deficit for the day and will lose weight.

For just about everyone a 2lb a week loss will set you at 1200 calories a day. If you want a more reasonable goal, try setting it to lose 1lb per week. When you log your exercise calories and eat those, I'm sure you'll find that you'll be grossing around the same amount of calories as the TDEE -20% method.

The main problem is really that when you start to eat below your BMR, your brain cannot convert fat stores into energy, and it uses a lot of calories everyday. So where does it get it's energy from? Your lean muscle mass. While losing *some* muscle is normal in the weight loss process, under feeding can lead to a large…

Curious why you believe you can form muscle while in a catabolic state. Since it requires an anabolic state to build muscle. There are some *very* specific and difficult ways to build some muscle while still cutting calories, but she isn't doing any of them. Also, even if her main goal was to gain muscle mass and she was…

It's really difficult (pretty much impossible) to gain muscle while eating at a caloric deficit, especially so for women, so it's not that. However, a 2 lb fluctuation isn't strange, you could have eaten something extra sodium the day before or have a hormonal issue. Are you logging your exercise calories and eating them…

9lbs would be the *most* realistic. Since you have 61lbs to lose, I think you could probably bank on around 18lbs in 9 weeks. It will probably slow down from there, you'll want to try for 1.5lbs for the next 10 weeks. Then 1lb per week... Last 10lbs? .5lb per week.

Please cite medical reference, I wish to learn. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starvation_response "In humans Starvation mode is a state in which the body is responding to prolonged periods of low energy intake levels. During short periods of energy abstinence, the human body will burn primarily free fatty acids from body…

I exercise a lot more the day of or save a few hundred during the week so I can have some extra food or booze, especially if I know I'm going to be spending time out with friends, which I only do once a month or so. I busted my *kitten* at the gym today and have an extra 500 calories JUST for alcohol tonight. hells yeah.

If you want to stick to 1lb per week, perhaps try exercising most days? I go nuts unless I burn at least 300 extra calories to eat. I'm absolutely starving on my rest day.

When you net less than your BMR, your brain is unable to use fat stores from your body. It must convert lean muscle mass into energy so it can run, and your brain uses more calories than you think. I cannot tell you how many people I've personally tried to help prevent from going towards this path, they always regret it…

I agree with previous posters who have recommended changing your goal for weight loss to .5 per week, you just don't have enough left to lose to reasonably sustain a higher deficit than that.
-
Okay well, good luck, I hope you figure it out =)

Well it's really important to eat those calories, otherwise you're creating a very large calorie deficit and losing precious muscle. If you really feel that it's over estimating, eat at least 50% of them or perhaps invest in a HMR that has a chest strap as they are the most accurate. Being afraid of eating food is also not…

It could be a lot of things, but I too noticed that either you haven't been logging your workouts, or you haven't been working out lately. Your calorie goal is 1400 and sometimes you barely hit 1000 for the day. If you are exercising while also eating so little, it can cause some problems. Try to focus really hard on only…

I noticed most days you're under by 50-80 calories on average and have plenty of days where you are over by 180 calories peppered in. It's probably a wash.

I agree with brraanndi, If you must pick a number, start with the highest of the healthiest weight according to your BMI. In this case, 132. Once you reach that, reassess and tweak your goal. Be wary of any advice from a GP, they only get about 7hrs of dietary and nutrition training in their entire schooling, I'd ask for a…

If you diary is completely 100% correct (you didn't forget to log the rest of your food on some days) I've noticed you eat less than 1000 net calories pretty consistently. This is really unhealthy. Please make sure you NET your calorie goal (which looks like it's 1400?) everyday, yes that means eating your exercise…

This. ^^^^ You are suppose to put your activity level as SEDENTARY if you have a JOB that is SEDENTARY, not if you work out during the week. Please make sure you know what you are talking about before posting advice to new users, especially if you are new yourself.

Yes. =)

Your HMR told you that you burned 1700 calories on Sept. 16th? Did you wear it for a couple hours afterwards? Is it the watch type that you tap?
-
I'm really having trouble figuring out exactly what I want to say.... I'm sorry, but there is no way you are burning 1700+ calories a day with exercise according to your diary. It would be extremely difficult for an athlete to burn 1000 in a few hours of exercise. Realistically, you are probably burning closer to 600-700…

I'm not sure if it's motivation or just lack of contentment. There is a word in Sanskrit I like to refer to in my own personal life: Santosha "The definition of santosha is being content with what you have and where you are at instead of wishing for things you don’t have or daydreaming of the future. It is living in the…

It can be time consuming to log special rolls because they differ from restaurant to restaurant. But I find the regular rolls to be accurate. Spicy tuna roll = 290 cals Nigiri (almost all fish) = 100 cals for 2pc Cucumber maki roll = 150 cals I'll usually just pick the base of the special roll, then add items that come on…

I suffer from binge eating. And I've had it *mostly* under control since I got serious about losing weight in June. I recently went through a few weeks where events happened and I ate over my maintenance a couple times. While it wasn't a crazy amount (300-600 over), I made myself crazy trying to "make up for it" the next…

23lbs in 5 weeks is pretty alarming. Especially since you have your deficit at 400 calories a day, which is a little less than 1lb per week. It doesn't seem possible to dump muscle since you're netting really close to your BMR. So unless you were some how under eating while logging your calories, or doing massive burns…
-
Yes you're suppose to eat them. Your normal goal already contains your calorie deficit for the day to lose weight with no exercise. Be careful though, MFP tends to exaggerate certain exercise burns such as the elliptical and zumba, I'd recommend eating more like 80% of those calories. If you can't eat them all today, eat…

I made this for lunch today. They are really good, but there was a lot of water that came out when I tried to eat them. I'm not sure what I did wrong, maybe I didn't cook the zucchini guts long enough? Also how long do you guys typically let them cool before trying to eat them? It seemed like they were still super hot even…

Not really sure what you're expecting as far as advice goes.... You say you're not sure if you're in a calorie deficit. The only way to make sure is to log your food and exercise. If you refuse to do that, it's basically just guessing. So...?
-
I'm not sure exactly how long you've been trying to lose these last 5lbs, but it's going to take about 3 months. Partially because of your height, (petite people tend to have a difficult time creating the same type of deficit as someone taller) and partially because you are at the very low end of the healthy BMI range.…

Yes you are suppose to net your calorie goal, if you can't eat them all, use them the next day. Unless you are on your feet very busy all day at your job, like a nurse, or waitress, I think Sedentary is fine. I know it seems like less calories = more weight loss, but the problem is that it will end up being a lot of…
