  • I like to pull out certain songs from the local rock/pop station. I like some Katy Perry, Fall Out Boys, and Shakira. I also like some old R & B music, like Real McCoy, SNAP!, and Ace of Base. Since I am an old Fogey I still like some Led Zeppelin, Duran Duran, and Pat Benatar. When I used to run, I liked songs that…
  • I know so many people who have family like this. I am lucky that I had such wonderful parents, and that I was thin as a child. I notice that my wife is gradually pulling away from her family, and her deceased mother was much like yours. That woman is forgotten in her grave as her payback for being so negative. You should…
  • Wow. I hope to be where you are in a year or so. Thanks for the inspiration and the kind words. Makes me feel like we are really part of something special in this community. Congratulations.
  • Hi, I wish I had more ideas for you, but I am sure if you get active with MFP and open your diary, others will give you lots of ideas. I didn't have the scare you did, but went through a brain tumor with my wife over 10 years ago. It totally changed our lives, and she can no longer drive, and is on disability. I am her…
  • You've come to the right place. If you get to know people and let them know about you, they will help support you. Don't forget to log your food and exercise. I have found having a diary that others can view gives you better feedback about what you eat, and when you eat it. Welcome
  • I know how you feel. People are so blunt sometimes, I think they are being "Catty." Seems like you kept you cool though.
  • I am a forensic psychologist. I do a lot of evaluations for court purposes, like competency to stand trial, etc. I really like my work. I get to be sort of a "sleuth" in my job. Took me forever to finish school, but now it feels like it was worth it. Nice to meet you!
  • Congratulations on your decision to log all food and exercise through MFP. When you get comfortable with it you might consider letting others view your diary (It's some simple settings). I found it makes me a healthier eater if I know others will be observing. I get lots of menu ideas that way too. Welcome!
  • What a scary thought. I wish I could be more helpful about the Tinnitis itself. My hearing is getting worse by the day. I wear hearing aids, but they don't seem to be compensating. I think I am going to get re-evaluated after reading your post. I use a night guard, a C-PAP, and ear plugs every night. I have lost eight…
  • I totally understand what you are saying and I feel for you also. Having a terrible childhood tends to leave one with some issues in adulthood. That being said I think that booze in moderation is fine if you are not suffering from a medical or psychological problem that would contraindicate it. I have read on some websites…
  • You have lost the amount that is my goal. I wondered how that much of a weight loss would look and now I know. You can really see the difference, even in your face. I hope to be posting my own pics like yours in a year or so. Thanks for the inspiration.
  • Cranberry Pomegranet (?sp) definitely.
  • I agree with the previous poster, no calories. I don't remember for certain, but it seems your recommended calorie goal is based on the rate of weight loss you are setting as your goal. If so, you could set your target calories lower by setting a different goal. I think we learn a lot about how to eat when we monitor our…
  • I agree with the other people who responded. Do something you love, even if it takes a while to get there. I had a job working for the phone company and could have made a career of it. The pay was good, and it was at the management level. The problem was, I sat at a desk all day doing calculations, and making drawings. I…
  • I agree. While it feels uncomfortable at first you might want to consider opening your diary for others to view. I learn a lot from others. I have had problems with a carbohydrate craving mostly. I have stopped eating sweets, so don't crave those, but it took a while. A doctor friend of mine mentioned blood sugar and the…
  • We are all learning here. I have always wondered about "bump" but didn't know why. Thanks for asking the question.
  • I have been on here about six weeks and have lost 8 pounds. I set a goal of 65 pounds, and hope I can get there by next summer. I have met all sorts of people of different ages and from all over the world on this site. One thing we all have in common is a desire to be the best we can be and lose unwanted weight. I will…
  • I know this is an old topic, but I just ran across it if anyone is still reading the posts. We have five pets. We have a Rottweiler named Maya. We call her "moose", Snuffleupagus, bronto head (she has a long neck and a big head. Once when walking in the weeds all we could see was her head, like a brontosaurus). We also…
  • Thanks for that. You saved me all the money of paying for a trainer for this information.
  • I know what you mean. I blew it on Memorial Day when we had company over. I think having lots of friends on MFP is a big help. I bounce off others what my temptations are, and they help keep me on track. I think in my case, since I am much older, the real spectre of death looms out there if I don't do something soon about…
  • Wow, what a great blog. I am trying to write one, but I don't have as much experience here as you. I hope I can post some inspiring pics like you did. The pics are really inspiring for me as a beginner. I will subscribe to your blog. If you want any more friends I would be honored.
  • Thanks for bringing up this topic. I was wondering the same thing as I find myself up at 5 a.m. now if I go to sleep at my usual time. I used to sleep 8 hours without fail, but now need a bit less. If I was smart I would take advantage of the pattern and work out real early in the morning. Maybe some day. Anyway, I don't…
  • Jillian is so savvy. Really interesting piece. I heard the food pyramid was a bust. thanks for posting.
  • I would do it outside. If you train on a treadmill all the time, then when you want to run in an actual 5K, you won't be accustomed to the different muscles used outside.
  • I can only dream about ultimately losing 50 pounds. I was just at my seamstress and she said she was re-doing a wardrobe for a lady that lost 40 lbs. Sounds like fun. My skinny clothes are all dry rotted, so on the positive side I would need to buy some new clothes. Thanks for the inspiration Many of like hearing about the…
  • Welcome to MFP. I too am fighting my genetics and already have high cholesterol, low thyroid and high blood pressure. I am trying to work hard so when I go in for my physical in a few months the doctor might congratulate me and cut down some of my medications. Friend request is on its way!

  • I look forward to people giving me some credibility again when I talk about health topics. Since I gained 65 pounds I am now someone who doesn't know a thing about being in shape. I look forward to getting off my cholesterol and high blood pressure medication and seeing my pharmacist less. I would look forward to seeing my…
  • From my old running days I remember icing the arch and breaking up the crystals that have formed there. I also recalled using an insert to support my arch. I am no pro, but at least I got the topic rolling.
  • Boy, do I feel your pain. Eating out is one of the more difficult things to do. I wonder if having the mobile app with you at the restaurant would take care of the problem before you decided what to order? Hmmm, will have to look into that.
  • Thanks for the inspiration. I am only at 8 lbs of 65, so I am looking at next summer as my goal weight. I agree with you about going slow and easy. I've seen too many friends go on crash diets only to gain it all back (and then some). Keep up the good work!
