About 400 miles. I'm doing both road and trail runs in Brooks Adrenalines with two pairs in rotation. 123 pounds, midfoot strike. I get new ones if I start to feel aches in my knees or shinsplints.

They offended you and apologized. The apology wasn't good enough for you and now you want to snub them to hurt them. I'd say go ahead and snub them - they are better off without you.

Some of the airlines and travel sites (travelocity is one) send out frequent emails with sales, but it's really a gamble because many are last minute with restricted travel rates. Some of the travel site newsletters or the Entertainment book will give you good hotel discounts - 15% for some of them. AAA membership can get…

How were you diagnosed? By a doctor or someone selling the pills? The spit test is a scam and often used by people trying to sell supplements. If you were diagnosed by a doctor, she could have prescribed meds that easily treat this problem. eta: I just looked up Plexus and they are all about the spit test. Seriously, if…

I've kept my weight off for about 5 years now. Honestly, at times it's been difficult and challenging. Here's what I do: 1. I still log my calories every day except when I am on vacation. It keeps me honest about how much I am eating and prevents me from sliding into my old habits. If I have some days where I eat too much,…

You might have better luck with this in the Happy Herbivores group. There are a lot of people on there who are or are considering veganism.

I don't know if diet soda is bad for you or not, but I don't drink it. I can drink coffee all day long with no issues, but one diet soda gives me a headache and cranks me up to the point of being jittery.

Haha! The "sock tan". I forgot about that one.

Most alcohol because it led to me eating more things. Replaced ice cream with frozen fruit bars. I started measuring my portions of snack foods instead of mindlessly eating them from the bag or box and guessing at the number of servings I had.

Expect your time to be slower than your road race time. Practice proper passing etiquette - let someone know if you want to pass and move aside for others who want to pass you. It's ok and expected to walk up hills. This might not be necessary for a 10K, but you should carry some food and drink and a cell phone. A lot of…

A lot of good advice here. You just have to have the willpower to make better choices. Once you start incorporating foods with less fat, calories, and/or sugar, your taste buds will adapt. There was a time in my life where I was pretty much a sugar addict; however, now I can barely eat a candy bar or piece of cake because…

1:15 on the way to work. 1:30 on the way home. 38 miles each way. With almost 3 hours per day in the car, I get most of my weekday runs in during my lunch hour.

I'm losing 5 toenails right now and I have constant burns on my neckline from chafing no matter what shirt I wear or how much bodyglide I use. I also get chafing around my waist from my water belt. I just came back from a 2 week trip to Mexico yesterday and spent a huge amount of time in the water. The tough skin on the…

I have a sample box of 6 Accel gels and I've been afraid to use them since Chicago is getting close and my current plan works well. Several of the Accel gels DO have caffeine. For my caffeine, I alternate the Cliff gels throughout my runs 25 mg and 100 mg. If I eat two 100 mg in a row, it makes me feel spaced out.

Congratulations on your awesome run! :drinker:

This is the policy at my kids' school, too. Honestly, I'm glad. While a few cupcakes aren't going to hurt anyone's health, the average class size at my kids' school is about 30. My kid get enough treats already without having 2 to 3 dozen cupcakes given to them by teachers over the course of the school year. I honestly…

I only run because I like to run. It makes me happy. Don't care if I never was or will be the best. When I go into my garage at the end of the day and look at my wall with my bibs and finishers medals, I smile at the good memories of the races instead of consider them as "the ones I lost". Besides...if I only did things I…

If it's stressing you out that much, walk an extra 5 minutes. You do realize that when you log your calories, the counts are just estimates, right? No one can know the EXACT number of calories they per day and your daily log is probably at least 10% more or less than you think it is. As for today, you are worrying about…

I work in a scientific field and I review lab reports all day. I do modular origami. I roast my own coffee and keep a big log book of each roast in search of the perfect one.

I get this too. People always tell me I have blue lips. It only happens after a run. I also shiver and get cold even when it's warm outside. I've been told that its likely the body reacting to the stress of the run by moving blood flow to the organs and away from the extremities. BUT...you should ask your doctor because it…

I run in the Brooks Adrenaline ASRs and I love them. They get dirt on the inside too, though. Maybe the GTX with the gortex would solve the problem? The adrenaline is a stability shoe, so not sure that's what you need. I used to get black toenails all the time until I switched to Adrenalines and they solve the problem. I…

For long runs (10 miles and over), I use completely seamless running underwear (Champion brand) under everything because, as others have mentioned, the seams get uncomfortable.

anything with the word "toxins" anything with the word "sexypants" "please help me figure out how to eat the rest of my 1,200 calories" "I'm too busy to diet/count calories/exercise"

For iPhone. When I travel out of country, I turn on airplane mode then double check that cellular data, data roaming, and LTE are disabled in General under Settings. You should also reset your cellular data usage to zero so you can periodically check if any data has been downloaded just in case you missed something so you…

I also experienced weight gain when I trained for my first marathon. I'm training for my second marathon now. I'm following Matt Fitzgerald's "Racing Weight" book and still losing a pound every couple of weeks with weekly mileage at 30 - 35ish. I think the weight loss will taper off as the miles (and my energy needs) go up…

Mile 9! Haha...and mile 22. I remember thinking that as long as I kept lifting my feet and moving them a forward direction the finish line would show up somewhere.
